Gosh, the year is creeping up on us eh! The Midnight knock Ari from her perch with their debut chart topper for me during this week. (Which is actually now a week behind, but eventually I'll catch up!) Deaf Havana surge to #2 becoming the latest beneficiaries of a rock renaissance in my personals, while Weezer's Africa also hangs on in the top 5. Nicki scores two new top tens this week from her latest album too, the brand new Majesty, and Rich Sex, which benefits from the newly-released album plays surge. A third track, Coco Chanel, is just outside the top 10 too.

 

New entries this week come from Kllo, Alison Wonderland, Robyn, Lil Kim, ETHIC, Tom Tripp, Discrete and Chvrches. New entries are starting to be thinner on the ground these days as I'm not changing up my playlists as frequently now that I'm back to a 9 to 5. Starting at the bottom this week for the first commentary I've done in a few, let's get to some newies!

 

 

Lowest new entry this week goes to Discrete, one of the tunes in the running for being my last BJSC entry before I went for Paces. This one's bubbled around the bottom of my top 40 for the last few weeks but hasn't really taken off so much. I also thought Technique has a much more fun video which helped me choose it!

 

 

On the flip, the highest goes to Kllo who've turned out not to just be one of those acts that releases one vaguely known song (Bolide) and then sinks without a further trace. This one I actually prefer to that, a nice comeback for them.

 

 

Chvrches also have a new song despite only recently dropping an album. It's their second collab this year/this era, and is sounding pretty solid. More collabs please guys! Having said that, they still don't feel as established and dominant as they were in their previous album eras, somehow.

 

 

Two comebacks from acts who've been away a long time now. As Nicki mod this is probably sacrilege, but I'm charting Lil Kim this week with her new one Nasty One. It's if I'm honest, very average and with an awkward video, but it is catchy within a playlist. Robyn has been away even longer and this is a welcome return for her, but it is quite long and maybe not deservedly so, so I'm not sure if it will go much higher for me.

 

 

And just a mix now here at the end, three tunes with an 'urban' element to them. ETHIC's Lamba Lolo might be the most well-known in some circles, it's a viral hit over on the African side of the internet and crossing over into other markets too. It's pretty catchy but maybe don't look up a lyrics translation if you're easily offended :P A bit lower down we have Chief Keef alongside Alison Wonderland with his debut entry and her second following No, a pretty catchy collab, and Tom Tripp with chill R&B bop Medusa which has proved to be one that's grown on me a lot after overlooking it initially.
