Posted May 18, 20223 yr We previously asked which Gaga album has the best lyrics. But, because it's not all love and appreciation here, let's see which album you think has the WORST lyrics :o Is there a clear stinker in her songwriting back catalogue? Be kind
May 18, 20223 yr Author For me it's ARTPOP :( Don't get me wrong, there are some great moments in it (G.U.Y. is fiendishly fun, MANiCURE is bonkers and brilliant, Dope is achingly real etc) BUT there are quite a few songs that would've been much stronger with less outlandish lyrics. Venus is a mess for example, Donatella has some choice moments, Applause is just unnecessarily odd, Fashion! makes me cringe...
May 18, 20223 yr Even though I hate to say this, it must be ARTPOP for me too. It shows what happens when Gagaisms go to far lmao and you picked the right examples. I'm glad that she has her own unique style though. It shines even on Joanne which is kind of middle of the road at times. On Chromatica, some of the lyrics are kind of lazy too but the overall theme makes them ok in my books.
May 18, 20223 yr Author Chromatica has some of her best lyrics! They are to the point and "simpler"/less shrouded in metaphor like she is used to, but they are so relevant and powerful throughout!
May 23, 20223 yr Author I'm going to rank the albums in terms of lyrics in time. I think ARTPOP is definitely last and then The Fame? Away from the singles, some of the album tracks have choice lyrics Boys Boys Boys, I'm looking at you!
May 23, 20223 yr The Fame is definitely among her worst three, but as a debut album I think it does its job lyrically too. Edited May 23, 20223 yr by Sour Candy
May 23, 20223 yr I'm sorry, but the album which contains lyrics such as "ask the advice of your gay friends before you get a spray tan on holiday" and other such 'gems' is the only viable option here.
May 23, 20223 yr Author I'm sorry, but the album which contains lyrics such as "ask the advice of your gay friends before you get a spray tan on holiday" and other such 'gems' is the only viable option here. probably the song with her worst lyrics (another thread incoming!) - Let's not forget the lyrics that preceed this: "Walk down the runway, but don't puke, it's okay, you just had a salad today, boulangerie" ugh
May 23, 20223 yr Agree it has to be ARTPOP - there's definitely moments that border on caricature, as if someone was trying to write what they thought a Gaga song would sound like. Having said that, I still love the album and honestly Donatella is a bit of a fave regardless of the clunky/questionable lyrics!
May 24, 20223 yr Donatella is a bop, despite or BECAUSE of the "boulangerie" line It's a serious low-point in her WHOLE discography. I'd even go so far as to say it's an embarrassment for her.
May 24, 20223 yr “Love it when you call me legs / In the morning, buy me eggs” says hi  Edited May 24, 20223 yr by Sour Candy

May 24, 20223 yr “Love it when you call me legs / In the morning, buy me eggs” says hi  Well, I mean that's merely playfully silly. Plus she was young when she made that, she doesn't have that excuse for 'Donatella'.
