Everyone's favourite British rap duo D-Block Europe are preparing to release another project at the start of next year.

The first single 'I Need It Now' was released yesterday.

This finally gave the duo their first #1 album. Even if their music is pretty hated on this website, I do think it feels like their general popularity earned them at least one chart topper. 'The Blueprint: Us vs Them' felt a lot bigger than Headie One's 'EDNA' so that was probably unlucky to get beat by that one in the end.

I'm going to try and stay on top of all the major Hip-Hop releases this year so I've just given it a spin. I actually thought it was really good. I see that its actually got some good reviews from professional publications too. It's very wavy and vibey which means it works brilliantly as background music. Dirtbike LB has improved a lot too. It used to be that a D-Block sound was only as good as the Young Adz hook but LB has finally seemed to have found his sound. I didn't like Eagle when I first heard it last week but it's actually sounding much better in context of the album.

When it comes to albums released last week, it's no as good as 'american dream' but it's definitely stronger than Kid Cudi's release.

My favourites were 'Go Go Gang', 'Pink Lemonade' and 'Still Outside'

There's one absolute stinker though, namely 'Bando Aiko' which is 'Jhené Aiko inspired and let's just say it doesn't favour comparably with her music.

I think it's fair to say that with the amount of content they've put out and how consistently popular it is they do 'deserve' to have a #1 in a way. I don't think it should have been with this album though. Their streaming numbers have really declined with the last couple of releases (probably just oversaturation) and this just got to #1 because they picked a quiet week and went crazy with bundles. Maybe now they've finally got a #1 they might slow down a bit (jk, already anticipating them inevitably dropping another mixtape later in the year).

I really try to go into listening to DBE songs with an open mind as I know they can occasionally make good songs ('Make You Smile' and 'Playing For Keeps' are my faves) but the first 2 singles from this album were both pretty bad, especially 'Skims' which just piles on the cringe within the first 10 seconds and never really gets any better from that point. 'I Need It Now' at least had an ok instrumental and the hook has been kind of an earworm as basic as it is. Not heard 'Eagle' yet so will see if the actual hit from the album is any better...
