    Neon Blue.

That would have made a great final single to close the era.
  4. Neither.

I've been teaching about alliteration at school and the children were just NOT getting it! Clearly I need to introduce Better best bluegotten 😂
  6. Probably something alliterative!

Without a doubt it would be 'Deeper Shade of Blue' for me. An enjoyable song this from Steps.
  9. 'Neon Blue' is good and everything, but 'Deeper Shade of Blue' really is something else beyond compare.
  10. While i love it myself there are some people here who dont rate it as highly so a win may have not been a guarantee if it had fitted in.
  11. Haha I know. It’d win if it did though.
  12. They were also wearing a lot of blue on the cover aswell so that also would trigger you but it still doesnt qualify the song for this round!!
  13. Why do I keep thinking Better Best Forgotten has ‘blue’ in the title? I blame the blue themed music video. 😆

I absolutely love both but Neon Blue clinches it for me. Both top tier Steps songs though.
  15. Neon Blue gets my vote as i have loved the song since the first time i heard it, Deeper shade of Blue is also great and i also have to say i think i enjoy deeper shade of blue more in recent times than i ever did when it was originally a hit.
  16. How long more is the show running for?
  17. I've booked my ticket for Manchester!! (As well as train and accommodation) Very much looking forward to seeing this!

Deeper Shade of Blue is one of Steps best ever singles, so defo gets my vote
  19. I guess with hindsight I might have flipped the emphasis on Heartbeat/Tragedy, to make it Tragedy/Heartbeat, as Heartbeat was the song mostly played on the chart and music channels in the run up to Christmas, slightly masking the potential of Tragedy for a bit. They're fortunate attention did switch to Tragedy come new year, because there was no real guarantee that would happen. Still, I do get the logic of pushing a ballad at Christmas and it all worked out in the end. Other than that, I'd have squeezed in Love You More somewhere, but really the only place it would have fit is as a double a-side with Better Best Forgotten. Maybe with a nice fresh single remix and a release delay of a few weeks that could have been another No.1 for them as a double a-side.
  20. I totally agree with building up their momentum. Though it would’ve been nice for BBF to grab the #1 spot as well. Mm, not sure about a 6th single though. Maybe a double A with a new track?
  21. Deeper for me!
  22. We have 2 singles that have blue in the title and to be fair both are very strong songs. Which of the 2 do you prefer?
  23. Them been more mature I'm sure has also helped.
  24. I agree but would have picked back to you as the final single. The overall era was a massive success, while re releases weren't as common back then but had they done it, it would have done well. I have nothing but great memories of the step one era.

I guess it all became about building momentum. 5678 had to happen for Last Thing On My Mind to happen, for One For Sorrow to become a bigger hit! I'd maybe have released another single (Love You More or This Heart Will Love Again). I'd also look at sharing the vocals more on One For Sorrow (with Claire still being the main voice you heard in the chorus)
  26. I think a lot of things went great for them this era. Changes for me: -Delay the BBF for a month or 2/3. H/T was still riding high and it could’ve been a #1 in other weeks in the UK. -Not doing an US release. More promo in Europe/Australia and Asia, especially as Steptacular was released and less of a succes in those regions. -Maybe a re-release of the album in Europe around the time H/T was a hit in some countries over there (with some extra tracks/mixes). -Release BBF in Australia. Depending on their promo it could’ve been a nice top 20 hit.
