ISTM the whole situation is getting absurd now - many songs/albums now, especially rap, have so many 'featured artists' that ISTM a strong cases could be made for them to be removed to the Compilation album chart.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were albums already on that chart with fewer individuals contributing vocals...

Erm, no.

A compilation is an album which has songs all by different artists.

If an album is credited to one person or group, and that person or group is on every track, it should be on the main chart, end.

Indeed. That is the rule for an album being on the Artist Album Chart - so long as there is one common artist or act to every track then it is eligible for the main album chart. Admittedly the rules were drawn up in a different era but the guiding principle is the same.

It's interesting to note that 'Rhythms Del Mundo' bent those rules a bit to finally get on the main album chart: 'their' previous albums were only allowed on comps, but 'their' latest album 'Rhythms Del Mundo: Classics' had all of its tracks credited as 'Rhythms Del Mundo ft. [actualartist]', so it was technically allowed to chart at #33.

Some labels have been a bit inventive with the rules... but if the rules work in favour of the "act" then there's nothing wrong with that...

One recentish example of where the label let down the "act" was on the Mamma Mia soundtrack. Although tracks featured various artists, had the album been credited to a "group" name that reflected the album content the album would have charted on the main album chart. However, sometimes labels will only allow acts to appear if they are name checked as individuals - it's for this reason that many rap songs feature multiple credits rather than just the main act.

Really? I just assumed that it was because rappers are used to banding together in 'gangs' since that was their upbringing... :w00t: :P
