Robbie Williams will open this year's BBC Electric Proms. He will be accompanied by a string section, horn section and full band. The show features new material from Robbie's forthcoming album 'Reality Killed the Video Star' alongside some classic tracks, under the musical direction of Trevor Horn.

The first single from the album - Bodies - is classic Robbie, a mash-up of a grinding electro bass line with a gospel choir and heavenly strings, as the singer casts an eye over modern life.

The album title itself is a nod to Trevor Horn's eighties smash hit as Buggles and Robbie is delighted to work with the legendary producer. "He's added something to the record that I haven't had on previous records - his genius," says Robbie. I just think it sounds big - track after track after track."

Similarly, Robbie's career to date is simply astounding: 15 Brit awards, eight No. 1 albums, and his Close Encounters tour set a world record selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day. His three nights at Knebworth were one of the biggest live music events in UK history when he entertained over 365,000 fans.

This is Robbie's first show since that epic Close Encounters tour in 2006 and represents a rare opportunity to see a total entertainer play a unique, intimate show. Robbie says, "I'm looking forward to playing my new songs, working with Trevor Horn again and seeing how people react to what I've been doing."

BRILLIANT   :party2: :bounce: :yahoo: :yahoo:

This is such great news. I am delighted. This is what we have all been waiting for - a one off gig that will be broadcast on the TV. And even better, this is adding a new twist. Oasis did this last year and it was brilliant. This is a very credible show and is going to work so well  I am so happy it is nothing to do with TT. Now we have a TV gig to look forward to in less than a month :w00t:

Any going to try get tickets in the morning?

It's brilliant news isn't it

It's a great venue to play, and is normally aired on the tv in HD also , I can't wait!

I really want to try and get tickets  got a few hurdles to jump first though

Also very relieved the news has nothing to do with TT but I have a feeling that'll be just round the corner

still.

Robbie joins Proms bill

Robbie Williams has joined the line-up for the BBC Electric Proms, in what will be his first UK gig in three years.

Williams, whose new solo album is released on November 9, will play Camden’s Roundhouse on October 20.

He will be accompanied by string and horn sections, according to the BBC, under the direction of Trevor Horn, who also produced his new album.

The show will be broadcast on Radio 1.

Previously announced performers at the Electric Proms include Smokey Robinson, Dizzee Rascal and Doves.

*breathes the biggest sigh of relief of all time* :w00t:

If I had the money for this and didn't have to leave to go to work 15 minutes after these tickets go on sale I'd definitely try for this!

Cheers for the Masterplan performance Sparkle. One of my all time fave Oasis tracks  I sang it so loud when I saw them live in June

Rob is going to be bloody brilliant at this :cheer:

I'm overcome with emulsion ! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Is this on telly or just on the radio?

Both. I think it will be live on radio and then broadcast on BBC at a later date. They have broadcast Oasis and Macca the past two years so there is no way they won't broadcast the decades biggest selling artist :smoke: Besides, there would be little point in Rob doing it if it wasnt on TV - it being his first gig in 3 years :drink:

I am dying to see what he will sing with a band like this. Don't see Rudebox being performed for some reason

It's great we're getting to hear the new songs so soon :w00t:

Is it being broadcast Live? That's a Tuesday night ain't it?

they posted this:

Scott Mills was talking about the Electric Proms on Radio 1 at 5.30 this evening. He said it will be broadcast on Radio 1 at 9.00 pm on Oct 20th and before that at 7.00 pm there will be broadcast an interview he did with Robbie at home.
