Posted October 7, 200915 yr Madonna's new greatest hits set, "Celebration," charted at No. 7 this week with 72,000 While many were focused on a battle between Paramore's "Brand New Eyes" and Mariah Carey's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" for the top slot on the Billboard 200 this week, Barbra Streisand trumps them both. "Love Is the Answer" earns Streisand her ninth No. 1 on the chart, opening with 180,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan Carey's "Memoirs" begins its Billboard 200 life with 168,000 -- off quite a bit from the opening of her last set, 2008's "E=MC2." The latter effort bowed at No. 1 with 463,000 :o  WATCH IT DROP NEXT WEEK BIG STYLE Edited October 7, 200915 yr by stevejb4u
October 8, 200915 yr TBH these sales are very disappointing for Madonna. Has she done promo, or she's that much ignored now in the US?

We live in an age where people can make there on GH collection via digital downloads. Plus this is her 3rd collection and it matches the peak of GHV2, yes sales are done but thats across the board.

Hopefully CLB is a constant seller for the remainder of the year.

I get what you say, but if you compare the first week sales of the UK and US: 77k in the UK, 72 k in the US, so that's 5k less although the USA is by far a bigger country with bigger population so I do think this is disappointing, but I know too, that sales are decreasing this year overall in the States. The other thing, I thought there are far more Madge fans in the US who support her and buy her greatest hits album and don't create an own greatest hits collection via downloads. I have to say though I personally haven't bought the Celebration compilation either on CD but I bought the DVD.
October 8, 200915 yr Author I thought i read she ( Mariah) did a free gig 4 fans in usa 2 boost sales but looks like didnt help much. I recon both albums will fall next week but Madonna will pick up more neare xmas as its a G.H so people buy them for pressys etc i know i will be

October 11, 200915 yr Has she done promo, or she's that much ignored now in the US? I always see her CD right in front at the stores, but I haven't seen much promotion on TV or anything...I blame Warner, they aren't good at promoting their artists (Enya is a perfect example of that, she's on Warner)
