I could never understand why these films are so popular. Having to sit through a couple at the cinema, I came to the conclusion I was bored rigid. Not exactly thought provoking/mind blowing are they? Though a big amount seems spent on over the top special effects. If they weren`t so violent, I`d call them kids films! ;) Not exactly Star Trek is it? Now, where did I put my Leonard Nimoy/William Shatner CD "Spaced Out?" One good thing was that only single editions of programmes were included. So, Neighbours & Home And Away showed their true figures...Where were they both? Barely in the top 30! TV Hype was definately in, with the likes of Robson & Jerome a la "Soldier Soldier". Terrible sitcom with "Keeping Up Appearances". Was I the only one, who thought this was probably one of the worst ever? A typical Roy Clarke sitcom, as it was virtually the same story every week. Hyacinth Bucket trys to pretend to be the Queen Bee, and trys to keep a distance from her sister "Rose", and brother in law "Onslo", plus tart of a sister "Daisy". Not to mention the old man figure "Daddy", who was obviously played by a much younger man dressed up! A gross show, much overated by the BBC who still repeat the damn thing today. Didn`t get much better, because there was Noel`s House Party in it`s 3rd terrible season...grown from an earlier effort (much the same flavour) "Noel`s Saturday Roadshow" (1988-90). This grew from the other series "The Late Late Breakfast Show" (1982-86)...Kind of "Multi-Coloured Swap Shop" for adults, with other host (doing outside events) Mike "Smitty" Smith. Axed because a contestant involved in a whirlywheel stunt with a motorcycle was killed in action. Paul McKenna (dj/presenter/hypnotist) had his own show, where volunteers were hypnotised and made fools of themselves. I remember seeing Paul, a few years back and he told me that most of the people that took part in the show, were those that had big egos, and commended those that had to return to their seats because they couldn`t actually be totally hypnotised. I often wondered if those that were suposebly hypnotised actually were not aware of what tomfoolery they were doing! "Working Girl" was the Harrison Ford/Sigourney Weaver film, where boss steals secretary`s idea, and secretary pretends to be boss in comedy/drama style. Les Dennis was on his 7th series of "Family Fortunes" showing on Saturdays. It was actually the 13th total series. Les did 16 series of it. In 2003, Andy Collins took the show to early evening and clocked up 78 editions on his own. Unfortunately, although Andy was a good host, it didn`t do so well. Even so, never beaten in hosting was original host Bob Monkhouse...clocking up 4 seasons (1980-83). Less said about Max Bygraves terrible hosting 83/5, leading to cancellation. Then returning in the Summer of 1987 with Les. It was the 4th series of "One Foot In The Grave", Victor Meldrew (Richard Wilson)...sitcom with the dramatic twist in there, sometimes quite shocking. A hell of a lot of re-makes & re-issues. Take That covering Dan Hartman`s 1978 "Relight My Fire"...a hit all over Europe but not Britain. Oui 3 covering Buffalo Springfield circa 1967. A re-issue for "Relax"...looking like a hit 3rd time around in 2009. Pet Shop Boys taking the ever so similar Village People`s 1979 hit all the way on MRIB`s chart, damn "Boom Boom Shake The Room", ay! If you got fed up with Diana Ross in 1986, then you were even more so, with the re-issued "Chain Reaction"...the Bee Gees song. SWV nicked a Michael Jackson riff, from "Human Nature. A whole pletheroe of forgotten hits in there too. The bottom six, probably not played since 1993. Paul Young found himself doing very well on the crappy Independant Radio Pepsi Chart, as he managed to get to #11! Shame on them...1993 being the year, when the airplay was out of hand, just like 16 years on! These both have something in common...Neither will ever be heard on BigTop40. For that I can`t understand, as Paloma certainly pops up during the week on some of the Independant Stations that take it. Crazy, or what? Hang on for the full combined singles, coming soon...While you wait, don`t forget we are still running the Christmas comp, where you can win the top ten singles on the Christmas chart...Tell me 3 acts that will appear in the Christmas chart. The X Factor winner is not allowed. All entries must be in before Friday 11th December. Send entries to davericktaylor@yahoo.co.uk Mulling over that...on a recent survey these are some of the oldies likely to re-chart in the Christmas Top 40 this year, in order: STOP THE CALVARY - JONA LEWIE...looks like the Argos ad, will pay off in order to put Jona up in the top 20, 29 years on. ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU - MARIAH CAREY...who needs Mariah`s new stuff, when the DFS ad will keep the royalties coming for the lady. LAST CHRISTMAS - WHAM...the perennial fav, can`t be overlooked. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY - SLADE...ditto! I WISH IT COULD BE CHRISTMAS EVERYDAY - WIZZARD...ditto again! SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN - THE JACKSONS...obvious reasons why this 1972 flop, might do it in 2009. Add to that lot a choice of Bob Dylan...with "Do You Hear What I Hear", being the fav from him...with the usual stuff from Bing, Shaky, Greg Lake and of course Andy Williams. What a shame those Christmas classics by Dana, Father Abraham, Barron Knights, and Steeleye Span never seem to re-appear...and Chris Hill, please do a 2009 mock up for the recession, it would be great and would have to include Chipmunk, Dizzee Rascal, David Guetta, and Jay Z. After Renta Santa, Bionic Santa, Soul Santa, and Disco Santa...You could call it Tacky Santa! :naughty: Hang around...
