This decade saw a huge surge in international success for British female singers which was somewhat limited in the 90's.. singers such as Leona Lewis,Natasha Bedingfield, Estelle, Amy Winehouse and Duffy really cracked the international music scene with a bang...

So,Which in your opinion is the best british female singer of the past decade and name your fave song of hers ???

i luv most of them but my fave must be Geri Haliwell, she was the true face of British pop and she was a true icon... :cheer:

too bad she quit her solo career, her 3 solo album were all great especially 'Passion': really underrated...

my fave song from her in this decade must be 'It's raining men', even though it's a cover, Geri really camps it up to a new direction...

Here's My top 5:

1.Geri Haliwell

2.Sophie Ellis Bextor

3.Gabrielle

4.Emma Bunton

5.Roisin Murphy

This decade has been pretty weak in terms of British female singers IMO. They sometimes start out strong, but by album 2/3 they're pretty much burned out. I can't think of anybody who's consistantly been good throughout.

TBH I think i'd have to go for Lily Allen

I think Leona Lewis definitely has the best voice, so I voted for her.

Although I much prefer Lily Allen's material.

LMAO at Cheryl Cole being on the list

I voted for Gabrielle, its a shame shes so forgotten about these days.

Went for Beverley, she has everything tbh, the voice, the personality and everything else thats needed. The fact that shes only had 2 top 10's is frankly a crime. Some of her highlights would be Come As You Are, Shoulda Woulda Coulda, No Mans Land and Beautiful Night.

Oooh, ive gone all geeky and ranked them aswell.

1. Beverley

2. Leona

3. Natasha

4. Amy

5. Alexandra

6. Duffy

7. Sophie

8. Dido

9. Alesha

10. Melanie

11. Charlotte

12. Cheryl

13. Estelle

14. Adele

15. Emma

16. Gabrielle

17. Lily

18. Katie

19. Roisin

20. Geri

you forget Mutya Buena, she is awesome!

i wanted to include her, but i thought that she only had 1 hit and 1 non-succesful album out and she doesn't have a cult following like Roisin Murphy (who has 2 albums ) so i chose Roisin over her..

i added Cheryl caus' i know everyone will ask 'why isn't she included'... She will be huge in the last 2 months of the year apparently (almost 300.000 singles sold in 1 week and a future hit album) so i had to give her a shot...

no one said which is their fave song by their number 1 brit female...
For me its Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke. They are my two leading leadies.

Definitely Leona Lewis, she's going to be around for years!...

As if someone voted Cheryl Cole

no one said which is their fave song by their number 1 brit female...

Don't Need The Sun To Shine is my fave by Gabrielle.

you've omitted Alison Moyet - still selling lots of albums, still easily outsinging every other name on that list. And Geri Halliwell...but no Alison Goldfrapp, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Florence, Siouxsie Sioux.... err???????

To name Leona Lewis as the best is laughable - emotionless, bog-standard, show-off histrionics. And all the star quality of a bag of chips.

I agree with this [except the Lily Allen part! :P].

Natasha Bedingfield's first album was incredible but I just found the follow up to extremely dull in comparison. Lucie Silvas was another example of this.

01 Natasha Bedingfield

02 Charlotte Church

03 Leona Lewis

04 Lucie Silvas

05 Sophie Ellis-Bextor

As much as I recognise and applaud the global achievements of Duffy, Wino etc, those type of singers bore me to tears.

Oh and as for the best song. Possibly between 'Moodswings', 'Out Of Reach' and 'Bleeding Love' ^_^
