Technically Alexandra's "Hallelujah" charted on January 2nd 2009 with 311k so that remains the highest one week sales of 2009 so far.

That week is considered the last week of 2008, not first of 2009.

Well it's marginal seeing as Cheryl is a JUDGE on X Factor, the debut performance was on X Factor and that is her whole identity now. Sure, she's the first non-talent show CONTESTANT since Kylie to get these type of sales, but she's hardly independent of X Factor and its power.

Cheryl probably will go down a few places for weekly sales before the year is up as the X Factor finalists, X Factor winner and maybe a surprise from SuBo or Leona could sell more.

And I'm not that shocked because she was on 330k on Friday midweeks, and she was selling about 25-30k a day, so 350k on Friday and then a further 42k on Saturday, with people downloading more as they aren't at school.

Apart from the fact that she did come from a reality talent show and that the weeks sales for Hallelujah you quoted were sales for 2008.

Well, basically that's exactly what I said.

amazing what a lip-synched performance on XFactor (with an incredible choreographer) can do for the sales of a crushingly average pop record, isn't it?

She did not lip sync she was live

You're both right - she mimed what she couldn't sing live

she did lip synch for over half the song. And even her 'live' bits were beefed up with a 'live' backing track vocal.

Live my arse

I'm glad Cheryl didn't follow the Sunday chart calculation of Tuesday midweek x 3, which would've been 130 x3 giving 390k. The real figure as it stands is way inflated for the quality of the song, but there you go...

Alexandra's album sales aren't as high as I thought, Cheryl might sell double or even triple that next week.

Great sales for Alex I was expecting about 110k after the Friday mids.

576,046 Alexandra Burke – Hallelujah (Dec 27 2008)

311,887 Alexandra Burke – Hallelujah (Jan 2 2009)

I remember the days where a #1 single could easily sell that much in its first week.

Check the YTD thread. Alex is #1 and wouldn't be with just those first week sales. Plus there is a 12 day count back or something someone mentioned earlier in the week.

Let's make this a lot clearer, the 2009 sales belong to 2008, without those she wouldn't have had the best selling single of 2008

Bloody hell! It's not that much of a good song tbh!..

Alex's sales are pretty low imo however..

I think the rule is Tuesday x 2-2.5

Amazing sales for Cheryl. Go On Cheryl!!! :D

And I'm happy with Alexandra's sales so far its good. Hopefully it can increase.

To give Cheryl some credit, it was Number 1 on iTunes at 9am, even with Alexandra's previously MASSIVE lead, around 11 hours before her performance on the X Factor, this song would clearly have sold a lot even without that performance, not as much perhaps, but still a lot.
I cant believe its sold that much. Its a good song but never deserved to sell that much. Its all down to her continued publicity on the x factor. She would never have sold that amount if she wasnt on there.

More interesting, I would love to know the actual physical/download split to her single without downloads added, I should imagine 250k of her sales are all downloads.

Some people are really beyond me, its like they want Cheryl her to fail. Then they have a fit because she sells so well and sings live, get over it! Its a good song, she promoted wisely, it was obviously going to sell well.

And for the record it was live, but go ahead and carry on putting her down because you're jealous of her success.. :)
