I think Poker Face has the best shot of being the best selling single of 2009. It is seriously the song of 2009 and more deserving than any X-Factor charity or winner's single.
I think Lady Gaga deserves it the most, but I have a feeling that it will either be the X Factor Winner, or the X Factor Finalists song :(
I'd like Lady Gaga to keep the title...but unfortunately some cheesy dull X factor $h!t will surelt be the biggest single of the years in just a couple of weeks of time... yuk! :puke2:
Well actually, I believe Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah was YTD #1 in the first week of 2009 ;D

And it's now the 27th October? Minus 1 week is still 10 months at the top for GaGa...

I hope Poker Face will hold out, so I voted for GaGa! :)

I guess Poker Face will be nearing 900,000 by years end. I don't know, maybe 870,000? I'm sure it could at least sell an average of 4,000 per week by the end of the year (with the next few weeks being under 4k, then around Christmas time being over 4k).

The X Factor winners single would have to really go some to be in the high 800k region in two weeks. I don't think the X Factor charity single will do significantly better than last year's, perhaps around the same level of success (700k+?). As others have said though, this year's X Factor has higher viewing figures, so who knows!

BEP are currently 165k behind Poker Face; last week IGAF sold 29.4k and Poker Face sold 3.5k. I guess with these two it'll be down to the wire; both will surely have a hike in sales in the week after Christmas.

I'm not sure about Cheryl. Just depends on her consistency. She should be at about 440k by Sunday. Alexandra has (relatively) slowed down; including today's midweeks, Cheryl has now out-sold Alexandra (350k vs 336k). Therefore I doubt Alex would end up out-selling Cheryl in the long run.

Well It's Lady GaGa....she is a brilliant popstar and could easily get away with performing a pokerface-bad romance mix if she appears on the X factor btw haha

I voted for Poker Face ... and believe she has a good chance of holding it. Having said that ... if she does get beaten by the 'X Factor Winner' she can still be regarded as the true winner of 2009 - as I think most of us have already disregarded Simon's Cash-Cow. I will however, be mightily upset if FFTL ends up with more sales than GaGa.

The X Factor is bigger than ever so I think the charity song will be a HUGE seller, it has a good few weeks before 2010 to sell a million copies.

Poker Face has the greatest chance for now.

I don't know about the Finalists song. With the all hype about MJ they could sell LOADS just because of relation with him. This is SO cynical... And I think they will outsell the winner's song. We'll see.

Britney, Sugababes and Alesha haven't any chance to get even Top20 IMO, Top50 - maybe...

Britney could make top 20, depends about the video and radio play.

This thread is about the #1 of 2009 though, not the #10, the #35 or the #259...

I hope it will either be "Pokerface" or "Fight for this love". I reckon Cheryl will outsell GaGa on the long run but for 2009 she has only 10 weeks to overtake and I reckon she'll fall a bit short.

Please no X Factor finalists or winner. The winner should fall short, as Alex could "only" do 800/900k in two weeks last year. I don't think anyone this year could top her. But downloads are increasing so you never know...

Great analysis

I think Cheryl will pip Gaga, with BEP close behind in 3rd.

Although the complete unknown that is the X Factor winner could snatch it on the line. Depends on the quality of the track and the winner.

X Factor finalists, I just can't see it. At all.

If Jedward win The X-factor this year maybe no-one will buy the song...because Jedward without performance is awful leaving it an X-Factor free Christmas Number 1

* crosses fingers and toes*

I just don't see the X Factor winner having a lasting career or huge selling 'winning' song this year. Last year there were so many strong finalists and this year's lot all seem more 'Leon Jackson' than Leona Lewis.

Seriously? I think the finalists this year (bar John&Edward and Lloyd) are very strong! Though I don't think anyone is anywhere near as good as Leona, nor will they have career's like hers.

I think Poker Face will probably be, it's already gone past 800k, should be on 900k by christmas

at the rate it's selling.

I really hope Poker Face will remain #. i don't see Chery as threat anymore. Only threat is x factor finalists.
The winner's single also obviously. ;) We don't know how it will behave in the new market: the sales might be even higher than Burke's but also might clear only like Cheryl did on her first two weeks. We'll see.
