November 7, 200915 yr 14 is an excellent amount, some of those I wouldn't expect you to like but I'm a bit surprised to see Patrick Wolf in there, I hope you don't know it! Nope I know it. I just find his entire musical output and his interviews try to hard, too clever by half, art school pretentiousness. Maybe its me being a teenager in the 1980s but he comes across as the male La Roux been studing those quirky 1980s alternative pop records too well and totally lacking in depth, soul and feeling. Hence I cannot stand his output because it was done so much better back in that decade, hence I have little time for imitators.
November 7, 200915 yr These made my Top 10 (bold = #1) 149 Kings of Leon 'Use Somebody' 148 Glasvegas 'Daddy's Gone' 147 LCD Soundsystem 'Someone Great' :D I bought this on single, I love the way it builds!! 146 Pendulum 'Slam' 145 Jane's Addiction 'Just Because' :o Forgot this one completely, fantastic track. 144 Regina Spektor 'Fidelity' 143 Amerie 'One Thing' In 2005 my chart was more Top40 orientated, loved this at the time though and still do! Nice LEGS on the single artwork. :P Have you ever heard Elbow's 2005 cover of it? 139 Feist '1234' Also bought this on single, before the advert came out for 99p. Undeniably uplifting and the best she's done IMO. 137 Guillemots 'Made Up Love Song #43' - didn't make #1, but spent a ridiculously long time on my chart in the summer of '06, first introduced to this beautiful track by Zane in September 2005. "Trains.." still to come, yes? :D 136 Wolfman ft Pete Doherty 'For Lovers' Still sounds great, lovely! 135 White Stripes 'Seven Nation Army' 2000s classic. Not so keen on their recent stuff however. 133 TV On The Radio 'Dancing Choose' 132 Stereophonics 'Dakota' 131 Digitalism 'Pogo' [shinichi Osawa Remix] 126 Oasis 'Songbird' 124 Arctic Monkeys 'Fluorescent Adolescent' LOVE THIS. Do prefer "Teddy Picker" now though, spent 3 weeks at No1 on my chart. 123 Late of the Pier 'Space and the Woods' - I prefer Heartbeats, always found this one a bit clichéd. 122 Coldplay 'The Scientist' This was number 1 for six weeks, mainly because it was released around the time my grandfather passed away and i didn't feel like compiling my chart (So froze it for a few weeks) - but also because it reminds me of that sad time - Christmas 2002. I think Chris wrote it about his grandfather too.... 121 Muse 'Bliss' 120 Dandy Warhols 'Bohemian Like You' Loads of Number 1s :D Early 00s classics which both still sound fab. 115 White Lies 'Death' - my fave White Lies track 114 Red Hot Chili Peppers 'By The Way' 113 Queens of the Stone Age 'No One Knows' 2 weeks as my No1 in November '02, reminds me of my 1st year of sixth form. Good times! :D 112 Roger Sanchez 'Another Chance' Biggest climb to No1 on my chart, 27-1. IT fell the next week. but then climbed back 3 weeks later, one of the few records to climb back to No1. Brilliant track, and I love that video. 111 Eminem 'Stan' Brilliant. 110 Interpol 'PDA' 2002 108 The Subways 'Rock & Roll Queen' 107 MGMT 'Kids' 5 weeks as my number 1 last Autumn, easily my favourite from them. 106 The Bravery 'An Honest Mistake' Their 2nd album was very disappointing really, never really lived up to this! 103 Doves 'Black and White Town' 102 Blur 'Out of Time' 101 Gorillaz 'Feel Good Inc' All excellent choices, can't wait to see what's in your Top 40! :)
November 7, 200915 yr Author brilliant to see DB Boulevard, funnily enough both that song and singer Moony's follow up single Dove just missed my 'top 131' after originally being in the top 200 longlist Oooh don't think I've ever known of this. Will have to check it out, I really like her voice on 'Point of View'.
November 7, 200915 yr Author I've3 only recently heard this song for the first time in my life. Such a fantastic masterpiece! Immediately became my favourite Snow Patrol song, previously it being Chasing Cars :kink: Wasn't that Crazy about this song but like it quite much. :D Another stunning song. I usually don't like Goldfrapp that much but this completely blew me over last year. I actually don't 'love' this song but this buzz and hype about YYYs on this site particularly made me listen to it more attentively and i realised it wasn't that bad as i thought. Heads Will Roll is still my fave off this year's singles. Such a fantastic song! Being a big Arctic Monkeys fan it was almost not impossible for me not to get into them last year. Is Standing Next To Me gonna feature in your chart? Thanks Pavel! I do think 'Standing Next To Me' is a good song, but for me it's the weakest of their 3 singles. :(
November 7, 200915 yr Author I have it but only the full version. I could probably edit it down, I think that's all they did on the radio at the time... I'm really starting to think that your chart is going to literally end up being my 200 in a sightly different order ( :D ) - even this is my favourite Missy track and will feature in my chart too. :o :o That would be great, jsut any version of it to be honest! Hmm, I reckon your chart will contain more lesser known singles than mine, especially from the first half of the decade. Oh and btw I make it 5 of my top 30 I first heard because of your reccommendation! ^_^
November 7, 200915 yr Author Nope I know it. :( Oh well. Although I do kind of agree with you, I'm not really a fan of his at and 'The Magic Position' is the only song of his I love.
November 7, 200915 yr Author Right, let's try and reply to this! 200 The Prodigy 'Omen' 2009 This is ok but it's not my favourite of theirs this decade, there's something about the most recent stuff that doesn't totally click with me. Their current album is certainly one of two halves for me, I love half of it but half of it is a bit weak really. 197 VV Brown 'Crying Blood' 2008 Still sounds like the monster mash. I know you've been a fan this year but I still can't get into her aside from this and Shark In The Water which again is ok but nothing outstanding to these ears. I have gone off the album a bit recently, but I still think it's very good and there are only a couple of songs on it I think are only poor 196 Arcade Fire 'Keep The Car Running' 2007 I like this more than I think I do if you know what I mean. In fact that could be said for the entirety of the Neon Bible album actually. That said, I think it was a terrible single choice as they could have released something like No Cars Go and really capitalise on the good press they were getting at the time. This is my favourite of their singles off 'Neon Bible' but I agree there were better choices to release as the lead. 194 Pet Shop Boys 'Integral' 2007 Absolutely superb. PSB realising that they sounded best in the late 80s and early 90s and reverting back to a throwaway pop sound with their typically unusual lyrical subjects. I think they remain the only act from the 80s that are still releasing singles that are occasionally up there with the best of their back catalogue. I have both of Pet Shop Boys Best Of's, but I certainly prefer the earlier one disc one, it's almost constantly great whereas the two disc seems to have a lot more filler on. 'Integral' is right up there with their best. 190 Magic Numbers 'Forever Lost' 2005 Unlike you, I have sorta tired of these lot. Although maybe in retrospect I only ever really liked this and the follow up anyway. Still a good song but one of my #1s that probably won't get a look in at the decade end. The album wasn't particularly great, but this and 'I See You, You See Me' I still love now. 189 Long Blondes 'Giddy Stratospheres' 2007 Another personal chart #1 for me. Still a great song and from a great album too, one I really need to dig out and listen again sometime soon actually. I think Weekend Without Make-up is probably my favourite of theirs. 'Weekend Without Make-up' was always my favourite of theirs initially, but after I'd had the album a while others eclipsed it for me, still great though. 188 Supergrass 'Kiss of Life' 2004 A great choice for a forgotten gem, in fact their 00s output has been better than their 90s output imo. Rush Hour Soul is my other favourite. I think their singles collection is pretty excellent from start to finish really. I've always loved this/ 183 Thom Yorke 'Harrowdown Hill' 2006 I adored his album when it was out. I'm actually completely over it now and Analyse (which was a huge song in my personal chart) didn't even make my shortlist, how times change. This is definitely the standout and his only song to date that stands up against Radiohead's best work. Thom Yorke appears in my end of decade chart but not yours? Oh my! :drama: 182 Red Hot Chili Peppers 'Can't Stop' 2003 By The Way was actually quite a good record in retrospect, I'm still quite fond of this and The Zephyr Song. I do wish they had never released the monstrosity that was Stadium Arcadium though, it single handedly killed any interest I had in them. Gah. Stadium Arcadium is hideous. I thought it was alright to start with but I'm not sure I could listen to any of the tracks on it now. 176 Stellastarr* 'Jenny' 2003 Huzzah! It pains me how underrated their self titled album is. :( It really is. There's not a bad track on it. 'Somewhere Across Forever' 174 Foals 'Hummer' 2007 Love it. Most of the rest of their material is a bit $h!t though! See this is what I expected when I got their album because a lot of people had said it was poor, but it was far better than I expected actually. I think it's pretty good. 173 Britney Spears 'Piece of Me' 2008 Again, another guilty pleasure. I think this and Break The Ice are the best things she's ever recorded. Plus it has Robyn input, I simply HAVE to like it. :D 'Break The Ice' was another good song of hers, I thought she might have turned a corner but the singles off the last album and the new one are all typically hideous. 165 Editors 'Munich' 2005 Great song, they've suffered this decade in my eyes as being like a worse version of Interpol but Munich is definitely one of the songs where they rise above that comparison (the frankly wonderful Papillon being another). They probably are a poor mans Interpol, but I do think their first and third albums are both pretty great. 164 Amy Winehouse 'You Know I'm Not Good' 2007 Good to see something from Back To Black make it. I have a lot of respect for Amy Winehouse, the album really is one of the most deserving success stories of the decade with 5 amazing singles. 'Back To Black' is a good album, but I did find it hard to get into the stuff that wasn't released as a single. 160 Imogen Heap 'Hide and Seek' 2005 Imogen. She reminds me of Siobhan Donaghy in that both make great quirky pop tracks that are simply too good for the masses. :( Immi and Siobhan  They're both contenders for my albums list. 159 Little Boots 'Remedy' 2009 Ah, Ms Boots. Great track, although it is easily my favourite of what I would class as 'new' tracks on the album. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say anything bad about this track, I'm surprised it didn't do better once it had taken off. Yeah, it's definitely the best of those new songs. I don't think it tops some of the older stuff though. 155 Dizzee Rascal 'Bonkers' 2009 Average at best. I hate the fact that basically all Dizzee does is sing one line over and over again, it would be an average Armand Van Helden track and it doesn't seem to me that Mr Rascal has had that much input into it at all. Although, who am I to judge I guess! :D :( Dizzee is someone who I've always quite liked but has grown on me a lot. I find 'Bonkers' incredibly uplifting and it was a massive anthem at the end of uni. Maybe you're too old? :P 151 Dr Dre ft Eminem 'Forgot About Dre' 2000 I usually either love or hate singles with Eminem on them. This is one that falls into the love side. Actually, you've just reminded me that I used to love Still D.R.E. also... I'm pretty much the same with Eminem, he can be great but he can also be fairly awful. Right, half done, half later! :D I look forward to it! :D And a massive thanyou for commenting. I'm going to have to return the favour now. :drama:
November 7, 200915 yr Oooh don't think I've ever known of this. Will have to check it out, I really like her voice on 'Point of View'. really :o it was all over the radio, got to #9 in the charts a few months later, was one of my big 2002 summer anthems; d7fjhQWJ7x0 Point of View and Dove finished in my 2002 end of year chart at #14 and #15 having both made #2 in my weekly chart, the top 13 of 2002 all made my 'top 133' so both were incredibly close! check out her 2003 single Acrobats too, a #3 in my chart, also very good; HAJR8EX40is
November 7, 200915 yr Author These made my Top 10 (bold = #1) 149 Kings of Leon 'Use Somebody' 148 Glasvegas 'Daddy's Gone' 147 LCD Soundsystem 'Someone Great' :D I bought this on single, I love the way it builds!! Do prefer "Teddy Picker" now though, spent 3 weeks at No1 on my chart. I'm the other way around. 'Teddy Picker' was the only song off that album that reached number one for me, but it's the one I like the least now. However they were all in the 30-11 region of my End of Year chart so I've always been rather fond of all 3! Awww... :( It's a great song, the kind of song that I'd probably listen to in that situation. 121 Muse 'Bliss' 120 Dandy Warhols 'Bohemian Like You' Loads of Number 1s :D Early 00s classics which both still sound fab. Yes, a rather pleasing amount of these are coming up in bold! :D 115 White Lies 'Death' - my fave White Lies track 114 Red Hot Chili Peppers 'By The Way' 113 Queens of the Stone Age 'No One Knows' 2 weeks as my No1 in November '02, reminds me of my 1st year of sixth form. I bought their second album last Christmas in Fopp for about £2, I wasn't even aware it had been released to be honest. It wasn't too bad but nothing on their debut. 103 Doves 'Black and White Town' 102 Blur 'Out of Time' 101 Gorillaz 'Feel Good Inc' All excellent choices, can't wait to see what's in your Top 40! :) Thanks for the comments! :D
November 7, 200915 yr Author really :o it was all over the radio, got to #9 in the charts a few months later, was one of my big 2002 summer anthems; Point of View and Dove finished in my 2002 end of year chart at #14 and #15 having both made #2 in my weekly chart, the top 13 of 2002 all made my 'top 133' so both were incredibly close! check out her 2003 single Acrobats too, a #3 in my chart, also very good; Hmm, I do remember that a bit now you've posted it.... It's quite good, but certainly no 'Point of View'.
November 7, 200915 yr Author It's now getting to the stage where I think every song should be higher.... :( 080 Daft Punk 'Aerodynamic' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14xgbeHsJXI So it's the other of the instrumentals in the countdown. I've always thought this was great, I especially love the guitar in it. 079 Lostprophets 'The Fake Sound of Progress[/b] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN1pKuSeIpk I loved this song back in '02 and it made me buy the album, although I ended up being far from impressed. They're not partciularly 'me', whether their more heavier side or not. But occasionally they do come up with a cracking song. 078 Bright Eyes 'If The Brakeman Turns My Way' YpS7B8-vU8o This song almost completely passed me by. It was released in 2007 as a AA side with 'Hot Knives' which was the lead track and I wasn't fussed on, so I didn't bother with this either. But I was definitely wrong, fantastic lyrics. 077 The Shins 'Australia' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIwA0zRW8Es I was aware of the Shins before their third album but I'd never heard anything by them. I heard 'Phantom Limb' on the radio and thought it was a good song. I saw reviews of the album and thought it would be worth buying. It certainly was, this fantastic slice of indie pop was one of the standouts. It almost made the top 40 too, gutted it didn't. 076 LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL79-7oo9Xc And another from 2007! I thought the stuff of the first album was alright but the 3 singles from the second were more impressive. This was a grower though, it's easily my favourite of them but was the only one that didn't hit number one in my chart!
November 7, 200915 yr So 100 songs left from 82 different acts. 65 male vocals, 20 female, 4 equal and a single instrumental track with a year breakdown of: 2000 5 2001 6 2002 7 2003 13 2004 8 2005 11 2006 13 2007 12 2008 13 2009 12 Also, 3 number one singles still to go. Any guesses? One of them had better be Robyn. Or else. :D I'm going to opt for Dakota and About You Now for the others but I'm not totally sure tbh. Edited November 7, 200915 yr by Dandy*
November 7, 200915 yr One of them had better be Robyn. Or else. :D I'm going to opt for Dakota and About You Now for the others but I'm not totally sure tbh. 132 Stereophonics 'Dakota' 2005
November 7, 200915 yr love Aerodynamic, bought it on import single :D possibly my favourite single from Discovery actually, although all of the singles were great...Digital Love was the only one to top my chart, I think One More Time and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger both went top five
November 7, 200915 yr Author To add to Ashford: Oh, and here are the 100 songs which I got rid of when taking the list from 300 to 200! Sugababes 'About You Now' Oh dear. :( Edit: They've already gone anyway (#98 & #86)! Although you might not have read them...
November 7, 200915 yr 080 Daft Punk 'Aerodynamic' - Fantastic. 079 Lostprophets 'The Fake Sound of Progress = Their only good album imo and even then it isn't VERY good, just good, this song is alright. 077 The Shins 'Australia' - Favourite song from this album, which is a bit hit and miss for me. 076 LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends' - Amazing song, by far my favourite of theirs.
November 7, 200915 yr I adore 'Gossip Folks', the video for it was epic too. Definetly one of my faves from Missy along with 'Lose Control.
November 7, 200915 yr funnily enough, I've just counted how many UK #1's are in my top 100 of the decade and there are 15! to balance it out though, my countdown includes singles that were never released here + a few album tracks, so it makes me feel less like a slave to the UK charts
November 7, 200915 yr Author 075 Groove Armada ft Mutya Buena 'Song 4 Mutya' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lMJW4V49Yc Mutya? This good? Get out! More stuff from 2007 here with what was probably the most pleasant surprise of the year for me. I can't say I was expecting much despite all the hype I'd seen but I was certainly wrong, one of the commercial pop singles of the decade! 074 Islands 'Rough Gem' RpQwZ_gdE1w I've no idea at all how I came to know of this song, but I'm glad I do. It's so wonderfully random and uplifting with such variation of instruments. 073 Little Boots 'Earthquake' I know this has yet to recieved its official release and looks set to be a rather big flop but I've known this for over a year now and is my Personal Chart #1 (well, as of tomorrow!). I fell in love with her material fairly quickly, and this has rivalled 'Stuck on Repeat' as my favourite song of hers all year. 072 Camera Obscura 'Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken' Unfortunately I didn't know this when it was out but discovered and I first heard it listening to a 'Best of '06' list on the radio. I fell for it almost straight away. So wondefully catchy and poppy. 071 Gang Gang Dance 'House Jam' Well if 'Rough Gem' was weird it's just been blown out of the water by this. It's such a bizarre and intruiging song but I can't help love it.
November 7, 200915 yr 075 Groove Armada ft Mutya Buena 'Song 4 Mutya' - Decent summer anthem. 073 Little Boots 'Earthquake' - Good song, however I do prefer Remedy and Stuck On Repeat. 072 Camera Obscura 'Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken' - Marvellous, was waiting for this to appear :D
