And now to something considerably more lively...

034 The Pipettes 'Pull Shapes' (#3 of 2006)

In the summer of 2006 there were about 4 months where I didn't go a day without listening to this song. How this was never a massive hit I will never know. Unashemdly poppy, insanely catchy and incredibly respected. Songs in this vein usually tire on me after about four weeks, three and a half years later I still love this to bits. PULL SHAPES!

A bit more Interpol now. This is probably them at their most beautiful. The perfect song to just close your eyes to and think of nothing else.

032 The Pains of Being Pure at Heart 'Young Adult Friction'

Meaning no year will quite have as many as 5 songs in the top 30... The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are my favourite discovery of this year. They don't sound like they belong in the present with their influences and their twee, shoegaze songs, but they seem to fit in ok. Single 'Young Adult Friction' is so easily to get lost in, over four minutes in length feels like a 2 minute pop gem.

031 The Streets 'Weak Become Heroes' (#03 of 2002)

The Streets have had one of the biggest falls from grace this decade. They're now utter $h!te but debut album was a fantastic piece of work, nothing more so than this, the third single off the album, a nostalgiac song reminiscing to his clubbing days of the early 90s.

039 Coldplay 'Shiver' - Brilliant, one of the best on my favourite album of theirs.

037 Maximo Park 'Apply Some Pressure' - Favourite single of theirs, wicked.

035 Blink-182 'Adam's Song' - Very good, I'm only into a few blink singles and this is one.

034 The Pipettes 'Pull Shapes' - Pop at it's very best.

032 The Pains of Being Pure at Heart 'Young Adult Friction' - Very good, prefer 'Contender' though.

035 Blink-182 'Adam's Song' (#1 of 2000)

I've never really liked Blink-182, and still to this day don't really know what possessed me to think it was a good idea to buy their best of. But I did make one excellent discovery from it; this. Released and totally ignored after smash hit 'What's My Age Again?' it wasn't a surprise I'd never heard it before. It's a far more serious affair than its predecessor and most of its parent album, referencing Nirvana and taking in topics such as depression and suicide. There are many theories as to how this song came about, but I guess only three people really know the truth.... Either way, it's stunning.

Amazing song  I'm a massive Blink fan anyway but mostly their serious songs are better, although I can be a sucker for their silly ones.

There might be a few tracks you know or dont know of theirs you might like,

have you heard 'All of This' (featuring Robert Smith of The Cure, its my fav track by them), 'Stay Together For The Kids', 'Im Lost Without You'

and dont forget about the blink-182 forum we have here guys.

Pull Shapes :w00t: they were definitely one of the highlights of summer 2006 for me too, that was my best summer of the decade - holds so many memories for me  We Are The Pipettes will be in my top 50 albums of the decade for sure

'Contender' is a great song too, certainly one of the best on the album.

I've heard 'Stay Together For the Kids', I'd probably rank it after 'I Miss You' and 'Adam's Song'. 'Feeling This' isn't bad either...

2006 was a mixed summer for me, the music was probably the best thing about it to be honest as I failed all my exams. :|

030 Ladytron 'Destroy Everything You Touch'

Originally released in 2005 this was re-released in 2007. It made very little commercial impact on both occasions. Critically however, it was very different and this song was held in very high regard. It took me a while to appreciate, but it's a fantastic elecronic pop song.

oh dear :(

I just remember feeling so happy and full of life the whole summer and had loads of good times with friends...plus my three favourite songs of the year; Smile, Hips Don't Lie and Voodoo Child all practically came out at the same time in the middle of summer - all good memories

029 Jimmy Eat World 'The Middle' (#2 of 2002)

This was something of a school anthem and has stuck with me ever since. Jimmy Eat World always seem to have managed to stay on the right side of the emo/pop punk type of genre's to make them appealing to me. It's insanely catchy..

028 Stellastarr* 'Sweet Troubled Soul' (#2 of 2006)

This was the first song I ever heard by Stellastarr*. I loved it instantly and checked out their previous album which was just as excellent, if less commercially appealing. It's the type of song that I could see myself potentially getting bored of but I didn't as it ended the year as my number one single of 2006.

027 Royksopp 'What Else Is There?' (#3 of 2005)

Having already made three appearences as lead singer of The Knife, Karin Dreijer Andersson (or Fever Ray) makes a fourth appearence as guest vocalist on this track. Backed up by superb remixes by Trentemoller and Think White Duke, I do think the original is just about the best version. It's haunting.

026 Monkey Swallows the Universe 'Bloodline' (#3 of 2007)

Released towards the end of 2007, this wasn't a particularly instand record for me, but the more I listened to it the more its acoustic hooks and ba ba ba's found a way inside my head. Its longeivity has meant it left my chart as the longest running single never to be a number one. Peaking at #8 and spending 22 weeks inside my chart this feat still stands.

The last two minutes of this are amazing <3. But i still think half the songs on the album/Higher Than The Stars EP are better than this though :o. I've heard very little of your top 50, though i recognise the name of every artist in it, bar The National.
