Amazing results, and congrats Dandy! Looks like I was one of just a few who liked the winner but didn't contribute to the sea of 18s. I liked 2nd and 3rd place even more - not necessarily how I'd expect to rank the podium just based on the nations involved! Very happy with 9th, only sad for East Ruk who sent what sounded to me like a female singer songwriter covering The War On Drugs. Also thought that with me pointing Pophub (albeit not much), that would mean that they'd have a lot wider appeal.

Voted and I'd say there are a good number of surprises relative to typical Skall taste. Very hard to vote though - there were very few tracks that didn't click at all.

Finished this last night and loved it! I think given the setting I was expecting there to be a bit more sociological commentary - the need for Shane and Ilya's relationship to be secret was really just taken as a given and not thoroughly explained. There was more focus on homophobia in Russia rather than immediately around the characters. The cast was generally very wholesome and there really wasn't much locker-room homophobia / toxic masculinity that you might expect in men's team sports along with any of the other difficulties with being an out sportsplayer. But despite the absence of much sociological commentary it really did just work as a pure romance/interpersonal drama. In any case, season two will need a narrative arc which I think (although I have not read the books) clearly points towards making the relation public and the difficulties with that could be the central point of tension.

Had a French guy that I met a few months ago bring this up to me when I told him the English county that I'm from. Nearly 2 decades later and 100s of miles away this still haunts.

I hope for all of our sakes that 12th April goes a bit better for Hungary than the last few months have gone for Ben's Sanctuary!
