November 3, 200915 yr I think it gets more than the big top 40- not sure where to find figures though People probably switch off because of Reggie's irritating sense of humour and chat He also never gives any facts about the chart and when guests are on theres not a lot of talk about their music
November 3, 200915 yr I don't listen anymore. Used to (even stuck though - mostly - with Fern but I really have had enough now. ) Shame...
November 3, 200915 yr I used to listen to Hit40UK until they changed to Big Top 40 - the chart may have been made up but at least they knew how to present a show! I put up with Fearne as I knew she was going and Reggie was usually OK on his own. But he's got worse since Fearne said her goodbyes and this week I actually switched over to a non chart show and followed the Top 40 online instead.
November 3, 200915 yr A recent survey suggested that Big Top 40 has 2.5million listeners across the 160 stations that take it. This makes it the top chart show, claiming to be a week ahead with the top 10. While the rest of the chart is just nonsense/out of touch. Radio One is set adrift at just below the Big Top 40 figure.

Thanks Dave! Very interesting. I thought less people listen to the Big Top 40. around 2mill So you were quite close actually.
November 4, 200915 yr I still dont understand how 11 - 40 on the Big top 40 works :S Rather listen to radio 1 chart show
November 4, 200915 yr 2 million! Didnt know it was that many! That explains 3 words climbing a little on Sunday evening then.
November 4, 200915 yr At one time I used to listen to it religiously. But haven't listened to it since Mark Goodier left. In fact I haven't listened to R1 since. It's mainly rubbish teeny, R&B and Hip-Hop
November 4, 200915 yr It's mainly rubbish teeny, R&B and Hip-Hop tbh, i think its got better recently, i do know what you mean though.
November 4, 200915 yr 2 million! Didnt know it was that many! That explains 3 words climbing a little on Sunday evening then. This has already been explained to you! It fell because of the weekend effect. These sorts of songs always climb on Sunday evening/Monday morning.
November 4, 200915 yr This has already been explained to you! It fell because of the weekend effect. These sorts of songs always climb on Sunday evening/Monday morning. You cant prove that a lot of people didnt hear it on the chart show and go off and download it so keep your own theories to yourself
November 4, 200915 yr You cant prove that a lot of people didnt hear it on the chart show and go off and download it so keep your own theories to yourself The reason it is reclimbing, as well as all the other songs which fell on Friday/Saturday, if because of the weekend effect. It's not 'my theory', it's a 'phenomenon' if you may that has been observed EVERY SINGLE WEEK for at least a year now. 3 Words has not been promoted at all as far as I'm aware, so there would be no logical reason for it to climb 10+ places in one day, therefore you have to assume it is the weekend effect. Maybe it is because people heard it on the chart show, but then again people hear every OTHER new song on the chart show as well.
November 4, 200915 yr Maybe it is because people heard it on the chart show, but then again people hear every OTHER new song on the chart show as well. But the original point i was trying to make was that these OTHER new songs are already being played everywhere on radio throughout the week. If someone was listening to the chart show, it was likely their first time of hearing 3 words because its only an album track.

If someone was listening to the chart show, it was likely their first time of hearing 3 words because its only an album track. It isn't only an album track; it's the next single and it got a proper radio premiere as far as I'm aware a couple of weeks before the album. A proper example of reclimbing after being on the chart show is Jay-Z's 'Young Forever'. Edited November 4, 200915 yr by BrayFish
November 4, 200915 yr I haven't listened to the chart show since JK & Joel took over. Then again, I'd rather have them back over Reggie anyday. That guy just makes me want to stick various sharp objects into him and smack him in his stupid face :/ I much prefer finding the chart online at 7pm every week or following it on here if I'm around sans stupid DJs.
November 6, 200915 yr I dont listen to any chart show on the radio, though I often watch it on 4music

A proper example of reclimbing after being on the chart show is Jay-Z's 'Young Forever'. Its an album track until its released, thats why people download the track from the album until the release. 3 words was only premiered to radio to get some extra interest in the album, it wasn't to launch it as the second single (especially seeing as the first one hadnt even been released then)
