November 15, 200915 yr I do know the basic roman numerals but I don't feel they're necessary and we could survive perfectly fine without them. Plus why take 2 seconds more to understand something when you could say it another way and understand it instantly? That makes no sense. Broken? I wouldn't say it's broken....just very unpractical. Yes, I'm sure you can survive with them being used too! I think there's bigger matters that need to be sorted with this contest, not if we use bloody numbers or numerals  If it really annoys you that much, just write the number when you post and quit moaning about it :) I think it's a good thing, the fact it has been used since the first contest gives it a value, and consistancy.
November 15, 200915 yr It would be 10 times easier to have normal number tbh.. we sooner or later have to change anyway.. because its going to look stupid when we are at XXVIII or whatever  The longest thing we're going to have in the 'closest' future is XXXVIII, i.e. 38, but who knows maybe we won't be doing it anymore by the time of it.(I mean the BJSC as a whole) When there is BJSCL (i.e. 50) you will be sorry for what you said :kink: I'm all for roman numerals. Will never stop using them even if all people drop them ^_^ Edited November 15, 200915 yr by Pável

I hate it when people tell others to stop moaning, if nobody complained nothing would ever change. If people didn't complain just think of how our world might be different. :o I used to hate it when people moaned or complained too but I can see now that it's necessary to talk and complain about these things if you don't feel right about it, instead of just keeping it in and others should have the decency to allow others to complain about what they feel something is wrong with. It may be something small but that also means it would be easier to resolve and I don't really feel that unhappy about anything else related to the contest right now.
November 15, 200915 yr Author How about this, what if both the roman numerals and the normal numbers were posted at the same time? Wouldn't that make sense?

I don't need a lecture on your views of why people should moan. Thanks ^_^ More important things; such as the fact the 'Artist Forum Rule' has actually been completely resolved. The fact that noone actually understands the Waiting List. I think these issues are more important than whether people used '22' of 'XXII'. :)

I'm not giving you a lecture I'm just saying how I feel, it's up to you whether you took that as a lecture or not, but that's not my problem. It didn't even sound like a lecture, not once did I say something like "You should" or "it would be better if you", if you had read it properly you would have seen it was just how I felt about it. I never said the numerals issue was more important than other things, but that doesn't mean It's not something that matters. Edited November 15, 200915 yr by Sabrewulf238
November 15, 200915 yr This might end up like the famous MF-gate. :kink: hopefully not  I'm staying out of this one seeing as I don't have strong feelings about this issue one way or the other personally
November 15, 200915 yr Author hopefully not  I only posted this to talk about the numerals because I didn't understand the need for them, I don't want it to became an arguement. I can see there are more important things but most of those things just lead to arguements so I've stopped worrying about them. Hopefully this will quiet down now, I wanted to talk about it, maybe have a bit of debate but I don't want it to turn angry. :( I don't think there's much to get angry about though. November 15, 200915 yr BJSC MMMDCCCLXXXVIII will be contest 3888 folks ^_^ Tbh, we're not gonna get MF-gate, since this is a bit of a non-issue to most people... Edited November 15, 200915 yr by Harve
November 15, 200915 yr I think when I hosted VII, I actually called it BJSC 7. But anyway, I don't see why numerals are a problem, they're not that hard to read at this stage and I didn't learn them at school either. X = 10, V = 5, I = 1. The only slightly confusing part might be 4 (IV) and 9 (IX) but why the problem now? All we have to do is add an X in front of the numbers of the contests from the previous 10 and two to the 10 before that.
November 15, 200915 yr I certainly called the fourth contest BJSC 4 and may have called the eighth contest BJSC 8 too come to think of it...I guess it became more commonplace circa BJSCX
November 15, 200915 yr Let's make a whole new number system :kink: BJSC XXII = BJSC D3 :D (December 3) :P
November 15, 200915 yr I like roman numerals and I hope will stay the same as it is...and Sabre if u ever win, I doubt that mods will allow you using normal numerals :smoke:
November 15, 200915 yr Let's make a whole new number system :kink: BJSC XXII = BJSC D3 :D (December 3) :P you're joking, right?
November 15, 200915 yr It's a bit of a non-issue, isn't it? It's pretty easy to understand and makes it a lot more of an event I feel (using Romans rather than Arabics), and plus...all you have to do is take away the Xs at the beginning if you don't understand. It's pretty obvious what each one is if you just think for half a second :P There isn't a law that means that you can't refer to the upcoming contest as BJSC 22, but for the hosts we do prefer that it is recognised as the grandiose event it is and conferred upon with glorious Roman numerals  And referring to contests by the letter of the month followed by how many times it's happened just looks UGLY tbh :( Plus, what about all the J months? :P
November 15, 200915 yr Let's make a whole new number system :kink: BJSC XXII = BJSC D3 :D (December 3) :P This would get confusing not only because of the J and M months but because some contests are divided into 2 months and some people may count this contest belong to the month it started in, others - when the final took place. :P
November 15, 200915 yr I always count the contest for the month which the final results are in as it normally overlaps...for example, reservations started in December last year for XIII, but I will always attach that contest to November :P
