November 16, 200915 yr Almost certainly. The Tories winning will do to Britain what Jedward winning would do to music...
November 16, 200915 yr I can't see how there would be ANY significant practical differences between them at this point. The fact the big dividing lines for the election seems to be purely a technicality (this crap about spending cuts, when both parties have pretty much said they'll be cutting spending by the same amount but just in different words to eachother) shows how similar the two are now. Is that a real Labour Party poster?! :o
November 16, 200915 yr No, I couldn't stomach a new Tory Govt, but that doesn't mean to say that I approve of this absolutely tw@ttish behaviour from Nu Labor (if indeed this IS an actual campaign poster...)... This isn't quite as bad as when they superimposed Michael Howard's face onto Fagin from Oliver Twist (which was borderline fukkin' Anti-Semitic in a lot of ways....), of course let's not forget the Tories themselves with the Tony Blair "evil eyes" poster.... Christ, is this really what British Politics has now descended into....? Here's an amazing concept, how about they actually ARGUE THE ISSUES....???? Oh, wait a minute, they cant really can they, because then people would actually realise that Labour and Tory are essentially just the same bunch of middle-class tw@ts, just flying a different colour flag.... <_<
November 16, 200915 yr I suspect it's just an idea which just happens to have been leaked to the press. That way they get the message across without having to spend the money on producing actual posters. The same was true of the Fagin poster (and the one with Howard and Oliver Letwin as flying pigs) but nothing like as sinister. I think it's actually quite witty - certainly far better than the Howard/Fagin poster or the evil eyes one.
November 16, 200915 yr If this poster is genuine, not only is it totally crude, it's almost guaranteed to backfire. A party needs to be on the front-foot to pull off stuff like this. If you're getting widely derided and mocked as Labour are, people aren't going to let you call a party with far more respectability than you a joke. This is like the Conservatives creating a poster where Gordon Brown, Peter Mandelson and Tony Blair are superimposed onto a picture of the Sugababes (implying that LABOUR don't have stability at the top of their party). Edited November 16, 200915 yr by Danny
November 16, 200915 yr But the Tories haven't really got any more respectability than Labour. The only reason they're ahead in the polls is Labour's unpopularity. There is no real enthusiasm for a Tory government.

LOL LOL LOL. If I didn't fear for the fact it would have a significant effect I would actually love to see that poster :(
November 17, 200915 yr Meh, I think it's a good poster. It's not Josh, it's childish, stupid, immature. And frankly it just proves that the quality of Political debate in this country has gone to the lowest common denominator.... As a voter, I dont like having my fukkin' intelligence insulted by this sort of cr@p, and neither should you.... Christ, and we wonder just why it is the vile likes of the BNP get votes when the main parties are basically just a bunch of fukkin' braindead chimpanzees flinging sh!te at each other instead of DEBATING THE ISSUES like grown ups... This is our TAXES at work, people.... Great innit...? <_<

Great innit...? <_< Well there is THAT side to the argument, which is true. But then, (even though it is a low form of 'propaganda'? you could argue), on the other hand it could be argued that it just appeals to a wider range of people. "Oh look, it's John & Edward, oh wait, who are these two guys on there?". It creates interest I think, "who are they, why won't we be laughing if they win?" etc.

November 17, 200915 yr Personally (and I'll probably be murdered for this) I'm hoping the Tories get in (and I think it's fairly likely at this point). Both parties pretty much meet in the middle in terms of policy as it stands today but Gordon Brown sure as hell doesn't have what it takes to get Britain through another term in office without doing something disasterous. He's a tired politician, but I can understand why he's taking Labour to the election - nobody else is going to want to take on the role of party leader for a few months only to fail come the general election (and on the off-chance that they do, more fool them!). Once the Tories get in power Labour can draft some new blood in at the top and try to get their act together. As for the poster - hilarious! And desperate. In equal measures.

The last two governments to lose power (Labour in 1979, Tories in 1997) have spent more time on fighting among themselves than being an effective opposition. If Labour lose badly, the same is likely to happen. However, if they only lose narrowly, there's a chance they'll get their act together and restrict Cameron to a single term.

This is true, but I don't know if this pandering to the Sun/Daily Star Brigade is necessarily a good direction for politics to go. If people are really going to have their political voting influenced by a Jedward poster, than I would suggest they're not really ready to be handling the responsiblity of making such adult decisions.

Once the Tories get in power Labour can draft some new blood in at the top and try to get their act together. You're too young to remember the way the Tories ruined this country in the 80s mate and created the North/South divide, if you were my age, you wouldn't be saying that, the Tories are poison... I cant argue at all about Nu Labor/Brown though, I basically think that you're right in everything you say about Broon, he's a weak, lame duck PM who's betrayed the ordinary working classes, he was too close to the bankers and city boys when Chancellor, took regulatory powers away from the Bank of England and didn't listen to the BoE when he was being told that we were heading towards a big bloody metaphorical ice-berg, and we all ended up paying for that mistake. Literally <_< ... Nu Labor's betrayal is especially bad when you consider the Labour Party was FOUNDED as a political movement for the ordinary workers in UK.... Blair at least had vision, even if that vision was something I didn't exactly agree with.... Especially when he got in bed with Bush and the Neo-Cons.... I never cease to be amazed at the people in this country who seem to still believe that they only have a choice between Labour and Tory.... GOD, is it not high time that we all woke up to the fact that they ARE BOTH AS BAD AS EACH OTHER....???? Is it not high time to give the Lib Dems a chance...? They couldn't possibly do a worse job than the one Labour and Tory have done between them for as long as I've been alive....... -_- The poster is, as you say, desperate.... Josh was saying that they were trying to get ordinary people interested or that they were trying to relate to the ordinary voter... Well, I think that the ordinary voter or worker would probably relate a bit more to a decent increase in the National Minimum Wage or the re-instatement of the 10p income tax rate to help the poorest paid workers, than some silly "comedy" poster..... The attempt to make us all have a bit of chuckle is really gonna make us forget the recession, the banking crisis, feral Chavs, a failing immigration, public health and education service, Iraq, Afghanistan and MPs Expenses isn't it.....?

Oh come on mate, you know as well as I that they all probably secretly WORSHIP Maggie and have some sort of shrine to her in Conservative Party HQ.... Dont trust the boy Cameron... Dont trust Broon either.... In fact, really, I dont think you can actually trust any of them.... But I'm at least willing to let the Lib Dems have a go, seeing as how they've not had the chance yet.... Just a shame that Charles Kennedy isn't their leader anymore....
