Can I just take a moment to admire the greatness that is Missy Elliott? If I was allowing greatest hits on this chart, hers would easily be Top 20. She's a national treasure, and one of the best and most exciting rappers of the decade. Unfortunately, besides This Is Not a Test!, she hasn't ever really made a great album. But f***ing hell can she make an AMAZING song. She'd literally dominate my Top 10/20 Singles if I was doing them, with Get Ur Freak On, Work It, and Pass That Dutch all likely featuring. Then other singles would easily make the Top 100, like I'm Really Hot / Gossip Folks. She's incredible. Seriously, in Pass That Dutch she gives the audience a 5 second break to breathe, and then also breaks to give herself applause. AMAZING. Her videos are some of the most creative I've ever seen. She's an artist, plain and simple. She needs to come back asap.

Then there's the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which is fabulous. A departure from their garage roots, but a welcome electronic change. Then there's Jay-Z's classic, a huge record in the rap industry. Seriously. It has one guest rapper on the entire thing, that's how good it is. Because Jay-Z's good enough that it speaks for itself, why get others to do it for him? And funny enough, below are the growing indie band Grizzly Bear, who Jay-Z is a fan of and has been spotted attending concerts of.

And then of course Radiohead, who are literally one of the biggest bands in the world atm, but with good reason. Hail to the Theif is often considered their worst album from the 21st century. I disagree. It's fabulous, one of their best. Each track is ridiculously strong. Haters to the LEFT pls.

The last post for tonight, tomorrow begins the Top 40! Exciting! Yay! This post is a bit indiecentric, but the last one featured plenty of hip-hop so OH WELL. Why? are amazing, if a bit bizarre. But really great, haunting stuff. Animal Collective's Feels is a more beefed up version of Sung Tongs imo, and their last album to really incorporate lots of instrumentation and earthy sounds. It works SO well though. f*** Buttons are electronic CRAZINESS. Intense as siht stuff. TV on the Radio are indie rock heroes, and this was pretty much their breakthrough to the 'mainstream' (though they were well known in the indie community after Young Liars and Desperate Youth). Really soulful and intense stuff. Wolf Like Me is a track that you have not lived till you have heard it.

HUSH YOU ASHFORD. :(

It's better than Amnesiac and In Rainbows imo. Far far better actually. Amnesiac has I Might Be Wrong and Pyramid Song and In Rainbows has Nude and that's it. D;

And I am tres hilarious Tyler. Yes.

But it actually doesn't. I hate that album.

Keep the Streets Empty for Me

This album is pure TRIBAL at points. Epic. It takes the moody elements from The Knife and plays them up beautifully. You need to be in the right mood to enjoy this kind of stuff, but when you are its wonderful. Karin's vocals are absolutely gorgeous as always, perfect for this kind of music. One of 2009's strongest.

Fat Beats

I confess that I don't know much about hip-hop. I listen to a fair deal of mainstream stuff, and the occasional underground rapper (Cage, Aesop Rock, El-P, etc.) But my knowledge is fairly limited. That's why discovering Black Milk was an amazing occasion. Here was a rapper who not many people knew about who was effing GOOD. There are so many killer tracks on this album. "Hey yo, Black's back at it- dagnabbit- let me let the organ get a stab at it." He rhymes at it with dagnabbit and stab at it. Amazing. Oh, and he produces all of his own stuff.

Seven Nation Army

The White Stripes were pretty much my introduction to good music. I discovered Seven Nation Army and it was like my mind was opened. Before then, all I listened to was pop, which I do love, but there is more. And The White Stripes are fabulous (though releases since this are a bit ~ehhh~). Bluesy rock with amazing vocals and simplistic drumming. It just works. And you feel fairly badass while listening to it all. You can't tell me the opening bass line on Seven Nation Army isn't killer.

TV on the Radio made an appearance. INCREDIBLE last album of theirs tbf

2003

Matador

I was a bit late to the Cat Power train, but now that I'm on it I don't want off. Her voice is phenomenal. Such a little bluesy record. A real perfection of her 'sound'. She's not likely to ever create an album as good as this again, so let us just remember what a great record this is. <3 Baby Doll is a fabulous song as well. "Don't you want to be free?" So bluesy and wonderful.

Seven Nation Army

"Boys and girls in America have such a sad time together." More Americana hereee. A lot of people write off The Hold Steady as bar rock or a Bruce Springstein rip-off, but they're so much more. There's such a great nostalgia to their album. You listen to it and reflect on past parties, past get togethers, relationships, etc. It's a wonderful experience.

Blackout

Blackout was released in the darkest period of Britney's life. The world was waiting for this album. And it was amazing. Unfortunately, her health problems got in the way of the album blowing up the charts and going down as a classic, but I think, in time, people will start to realize that this is truly Britney's best album (and not that $h!tty Circus album). It's unadulterated pop, pure and simple. Every track is a stormer. And if you hate it, GTFO.

This album is otherworldly gorgeous. Will Sheff's voice is incredible. You can tell he's fascinated with nature. I can't give this album enough praise, one of 2008's best and of course one of the best of the decade.

That's it for today. ;o Tune in tomorrow for the next 10.

Blackout is definitely better than Circus, but that's probably the only thing you said i agree with you on completely.

Not a Blackout fan? ;o

I like it, some songs are so great (like Break The Ice  ) but i can't make myself like the whole record. :(

I just realised i didn't like any of the Britney's albums and never heard In The Zone :o :o

Just listened to HF two hours ago, and listened to it again straight away. I've tried to get into their songs but it took a while for me to get used to their sound, bar The Past Is A Grotesque Animal, which i've loved for months now. I'm looking forward to interpreting the lyrics LOL. I can't decide at all between Sung Tongs and MPP, but i realised they're pretty incomparable since they sound so different. ADORE the sounds of both of them though. All the rest of their albums have one or two amazing songs, then averageness throughout (Spirit They've Gone: Alvin Row; Danse Manatee: Another White Singer, Feels: Grass/The Purple Bottle, Hollinndaginn: Forest Gospel, Strawberry Jam: Fireworks/Derek), but these are their only consistent albums, and consistently amazing at that.
