December 1, 200915 yr I have really gone off Fairytale Of New York now, I don't know if I am bored with it having heard it so many times or what but the song just makes me want to turn it off now :o me too... im SICK of hearing it now, its totally lost its meaning, being churned out every year as an opposition to the 'nicey' crimbo tracks. but in reality its become part of the scene it originally set out to be alternative too. It's just a slang word for Christmas :D lol.. yep, i DELIBERATELY use it to 'diss' christmas. i hate it.

A very good point - I'm sick to death of it now too. Watch as it reaches the Top 20 again later this month.
December 1, 200915 yr A very good point - I'm sick to death of it now too. Watch as it reaches the Top 20 again later this month. Fair dos, but surely it's better than the insipid warbling antics of Mariah sodding Carey! Edited December 1, 200915 yr by ScottyEm
December 2, 200915 yr Fair dos, but surely it's better than the insipid warbling antics of Mariah sodding Carey! yep, but tbf that crimbo track mariah did was imho her best track.
December 2, 200915 yr A very good point - I'm sick to death of it now too. Watch as it reaches the Top 20 again later this month. its already in the lower reaches of the charts <_< . its like... its THE track to cite to be 'cool'..
December 2, 200915 yr Fair dos, but surely it's better than the insipid warbling antics of Mariah sodding Carey! I think that goes without saying. I've never liked Mariah Carey - it's not only overplayed, it wasn't any good in the first place! The point about the Pogues is that familiarity has bred contempt.
December 2, 200915 yr yep, but tbf that crimbo track mariah did was imho her best track. I agree, it's a proper throwback and not too disimilar to the Phil Spector xmas style tracks. But, at the end of the day, it's still MARIAH! :puke2:
December 2, 200915 yr I think that goes without saying. I've never liked Mariah Carey - it's not only overplayed, it wasn't any good in the first place! The point about the Pogues is that familiarity has bred contempt. There are only so many xmas tracks, so few are made today that stand the test of time. Cyndi Lauper and that bloke out of the hives (or not? I could be wrong) tried to recreate the cynical (realistic) view on xmas achieved on "Fairytale...", but didn't pull it off. I think The Killers did a decent one a few years ago though. Edited December 2, 200915 yr by ScottyEm
December 5, 200915 yr Author No more new lists? I can't believe it!!! Listening to "2000 miles" right now!
