December 5, 200915 yr It's a week early yet, but this is definitely going to work to at least a certain degree... 123. Killing In the Name - Rage Against the Machine
December 5, 200915 yr The Muppets are more likely to cause an upset than Rage it has to be said.... But either/or is certainly preferable to Cowell the C/unt dominating yet again.... He's a cheating sack of sh"te, far worse a scumbag than Pete Waterman EVER was, Waterman you could pretty much take-it-or-leave-it, there is something very..."Fascistic" about Cowell I think, it's actaully quite worrying because now it's bordering on Propaganda what he's doing, he's as bad as Murdoch.... I genuinely believe that shooting is too good for Simon Cowell for his unforgiveable crimes against Taste and Good Music, I think we should have a Death Penalty for these sorts of Crimes against Humanity..... So, yes, Rage or The Muppets for Xmas number one, absolutely.... What do you mean "bordering on propaganda"? It's propaganda, pure and simple. Cowell gets to choose the winner's song. He can choose a song for which he holds the rights. He can choose a song which he thinks will suit his preferred winner. The whole programme is a four month advertising campaign designed to line Cowell's pockets. Just look at how many of the acts who appear on the show are signed to Cowell's record label. I'm sure Syco is supposed to be pronounced like psycho but sicko is somehow more fitting. The only chance of the X-Factor winner not being number one at Christmas is for someone like Cliff Richard to die in the next week or so.
December 5, 200915 yr The only chance of the X-Factor winner not being number one at Christmas is for someone like Cliff Richard to die in the next week or so. Or Mariah? Then everyone would buy 'All I Want For Christmas'......
December 5, 200915 yr no death has ever caused a surge in sales of over 500,000 of a single track in a week...this is what it would need to beat X Factor I see the RATM song is already climbing iTunes, obviously some people aren't quite getting the point of the campaign
December 5, 200915 yr Author I don't particularly like that the X Factor single will be heading to number 1, but I don't get how these rival campaigns that crop up each year are any less cynical or more creative. I know the song, I like the song, and I even have a copy of it somewhere. I'd be a mug to buy it again. If it's all about art, then buy the music you like when you like and don't care about the charts. Rage Against the Machine are already loaded, but I'm sure they and their marketing team will love the free publicity that comes with this campaign. I don't usually buy the X Factor winning single and I definitely don't buy it for the sake of it, but if I like it enough, then I'll buy it. It's unlikely I'm going to like it enough to buy it, but I'll make that judgement after I've heard it. what do you mean these rivals are not more creative than the x factor songs? the x factor just releases a bald cover every year, hardly creative. and I dont think you quite get Rage mate, the whole fact you think they have a marketing team is quite rofl, they are a band who stand against anything that would have a marketing team, a marketing team would be a bit corporate wouldnt it? If they are a band who would love free publicitiy, i am highly shocked that they also refuse to be broadcast of big corporations (for example were not featured at their request for BBC festival coverage, due to the BBC being a big corporation), why would they love free publicity that comes with this campaign? they havent released anything since 2000, the last time we saw them they were only doing live shows, and have f***ed off again since. yes they are loaded anyway, but the fact of the matter is, if its gonna be anyone for this sort of campaign, Rage are the most apt because of what they stand for, if it was just a nobody who isnt loaded, there isnt going to be enough fans to buy it.
December 5, 200915 yr The Muppets at UK christmas number 1. It is about time to have another novelty track at the top. :D
December 5, 200915 yr Or Mariah? Then everyone would buy 'All I Want For Christmas'...... That's an even worse prospect than the X-Factor winner
December 6, 200915 yr I'm just gonna enjoy Christmas and not worry about who's gonna be the Christmas number one.
December 6, 200915 yr I've put a small bet on Lady GaGa to go to #2 at 16/1 which is silly odds. But I'm now a bit worried about Rage Against The Machine! 200,000 members... how many of those are going to actually download it is the question. Shouldn't OCC disqualify it for chart hyping? I know they haven't in the past for Chris Moyles, but I'm really against this sort of thing in principle. Edited December 6, 200915 yr by AcerBen
December 6, 200915 yr The only chance of the X-Factor winner not being number one at Christmas is for someone like Cliff Richard to die in the next week or so. CASCADA beat MJ to no. 1... I'm sure Cliff Richard () Stands no chance against the X Factor I've put a small bet on Lady GaGa to go to #2 at 16/1 which is silly odds. Well, I guess I'd be ok with it being disqualified, but that means the X Factor single should be DSQ'd too... The X Factor is more or less chart hyping.
December 6, 200915 yr The problem is even if RATM have their #1, it will still be the X-Factor-related because of basing on the (anti)-X-Factor hype.
December 6, 200915 yr Why, RATM ? I mean wouldnt there be more chance if you chose a song that had more mass appeal, that way youd have more chance. I cant see half a million people downloading RATM, its hardly mainstream music. ! Even with a more popular act/song i doubt itd even work. However itd be hilaruosly funny to see Cowells reaction if it did happen!!
December 6, 200915 yr I think it's because the song is so the complete opposite of what the X Factor song will be. Completely inappropriate for Christmas, and even the name Rage Against The Machine - against the X Factor machine innit...
December 6, 200915 yr Are we getting Christmas TOTP this year, it be funny if you are eating your Xmas dinner listening to RATM as the official #1, if it does happen. Its not exactly a typical ordinary track to listen to on Xmas Day, but I would like to see Simon's smug face if it did happen.
December 6, 200915 yr still only 218,000 members in the Facebook group - let's assume at the very best that half of the members buy it (these groups typically have low conversion rates from member --> purchase) X Factor will probably ease over 500k, so they might get themselves a xmas #2 if all goes well, but it won't wipe the smug look from Simon's face, it will just prove that nothing has the power to overcome the X Factor winner, no matter how much publicity it gets :( not to mention that the following week when RATM collapse back out of the chart, the X Factor winner would climb to #1 by default anyway (or when Simon donated all proceeds to charity with instant effect) - so they'll be getting their annual #1 anyway, just maybe a week late, like Steve Brookstein was in 2004
December 6, 200915 yr Here's Bruno Brookes playing the uncensored version on the top 40 (by mistake or deliberately?) in 1993 Motherf***er!!!! Ugh! "Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name, that's a new entry at 27!" LOL http://www.zshare.net/audio/695025521c634bf1/
December 6, 200915 yr I think it's because the song is so the complete opposite of what the X Factor song will be. Completely inappropriate for Christmas, and even the name Rage Against The Machine - against the X Factor machine innit... Well, RATM were raging against the American Military/Political "machine" originally mate, but yeah, the context is different, but the overall sentiment is the same.... Simon Cowell is the fukkin' Hitler or Stalin of modern music.... I think we ALL as music lovers need to "rage" against him.....
December 6, 200915 yr Nevermind the whole anti Simon propaganda (which is quite amusing actually - just highlights how big and important the man is today :) ), why the moderators don't say a thing about the constant swearing and insulting of Grimly Fiendish? Ok he doesn't like Simon, but whoever it is about, swearing and insults shouldn't be allowed. So thanks to "moderate" this thread aswell... And the Hitler comparaison aswell, it is an insults to the millions of people dead because of that man and his system, and to their family aswell. The "Hitler" comparaison is getting quite random nowadays and it is in itself a problem, Hitler references shouldn't be something considered as random in everyday conversations.
