December 13, 200915 yr Good luck with your hopeless campaigne. Too many people on this thread name calling and insulting anyone with differing views from their own. we are all ignorant for enjoying the best night of live music on 'mormal' telly for years. What a brilliant shw Simon Cowell and X Factor put on tonight. At least 5 songs will be top ten in the Christmas chrts next week. Love it. get yourselves a TV show for for your rage and see if you can get so much public support. public support is what buys records and that is what this forum is all about.
December 13, 200915 yr Geez. Put it this way: Sony Music Entertainment is a multi-BILLION dollar industry. If 'Killing In The Name' becomes the UK Christmas #1, will it sales from one week within one country cause that much of a difference; even though as I understand, that the profits made will be going to charity? I don't care if by purchasing this single (despite already having it) I will be 'funding' minuscule amounts into Sony BMG's pockets. It doesn't bother me.
December 13, 200915 yr There is no such thing as reality and Simon Cowell. All of these songs that went to Xmas no.1 on his behalf, all were fake, I'm sorry.

Well it was a good show, the problem is that the winners song is definitely not worth 1,000,000 sales. The show is fine but its unfair power over music is what annoys everyone. Do you really believe that because of winning the show the winner should have a milion seller, a successful album and a no1 promo single regardless the quallity of its music? Because sadly thats whats been happenning, even with guyz that only last 2 years on the stage to be replaced by new puppets! If the singer and song were worthy I wouldn't have problem but shouldn't we at least show that we have music taste and dont haste to buy everything they sell us just because of the show?

That depends on how you define "normal telly" Over half the population now have some sort of digital television. Even those who don't are likely to be able to access BBC3 and 4 via their PC. Therefore I'd class the BBC coverage of Glastonbury to be far superior. If five songs from the show do make the top ten that just helps to underline the fact that it's a music show for non-music fans. After all, with the exception of the winner's song, wouldn't music fans who like the songs performed on the show own them already?

December 13, 200915 yr The 'X Factor' is all about Covers, Ballads, & Cash really. If some people see nothing wrong with that, then fine. Many of us have higher standards than that. Also, I fail to see why Muppets Vote for the Finalists each Year, when Cowell often plans to give the 'Runner Up' a Contract anyhow. So, coming 1st really means nothing - as the 2nd Act can get No.1 Hits etc. too. So why Vote? (Cowell relies on you being Mugs - he makes tons of cash from the 'phone Votes). Cowell clearly knows fools when he sees them! (LOL!) Pretty Boy Joe will last for about 2 to 3 Years, before Cowell drops him. Cowell is only interested in success and cash. If Album 2 fails to bring the Sales in, then he drops you down the toilet. Nice Guy! (Shayne Ward? Gareth Gates? Leon Jackson?) I hear that Cowell is not satisfied with 'The X Factor' being on ITV for 3 months of the Year - he wants ITV to make the Show last for FIVE Months! With the Final, (and maybe earlier Shows), taking place at Wembley. Basically, he wants to take over UK Music & Entertainment - using the Shows to Promote Acts that he has connections with. Just like the Susan Boyle 'Special' Tonight - several of the Acts are connected with Cowell - as she is. It is all very, very manipulative. Still - as we have seen many of the Fans of the 'X Factor' see nothing wrong with bland, Covers dominating the Charts. They may as well check themselves into Old Peoples Homes, in my view - they are like Grannies & Grand Dads in their tastes - as is Cowell!!!

If five songs from the show do make the top ten that just helps to underline the fact that it's a music show for non-music fans. After all, with the exception of the winner's song, wouldn't music fans who like the songs performed on the show own them already? indeed you are correct, I agree, any songs that were copies of originals then yes we (people) have them. Often though we only have the studio version and I'm sure no- one will argue here that music sung live is so much more real. The show gave millions access to a few songs they may never have heard live. whether that should translate into huge winners single sales etc is debatable (And I doubt I'd be able to argue the case in favour!). My support of XFactor is as a live music entertainment show when for most of the year we have nothing. I would loved to have watched more of Glastonbury but the TV scheduing and promotion was crap and difficult to follow when shows were on or whether they were repeats.
December 14, 200915 yr It's pathetic that loads of brainwashed sheep will buy a song, which only reached No11 on its own merits, because they've been duped by the X-Factor prime time shopping channel. Would you buy a grater from a shopping channel just because the presenters told you, over and over, how brilliant and outstanding it is?

December 14, 200915 yr #1 on itunes! LOL Urgh! I don't like this song. By the way, it will be number 1 for few hours (or minutes) only. Edited December 14, 200915 yr by Jason
December 14, 200915 yr This Facebook page is hugely frequented! This is never going to work and it will be an epic #2 fail, but still, nice try.
December 14, 200915 yr Something more Christmassy would be more apt than RATM, but I'm happy if it gets the #1 (which it won't) People shouldn't be so defensive about the X-Factor, etc. The show itself IS good, and produces good singers (though never good first singles for the winners - Shayne's, Leona's and Leon's being crap, Alexandra's being the best and her version of Hallelujah isn't brilliant, just OK). What's a pile of crap is that it's practically guaranteed the #1 Christmas (and New Year) single spot. The only way the X-Factor winner wouldn't get the Xmas #1 is if a massive charity single was out - like Band Aid 20 and I'm not even sure if that would stop the winner nowadays, X-Factor seems a hell of a lot more popular than it did five years ago. Simon Cowell associated acts being practically guaranteed success is no more cynical or depressing than any big marketing machine driving a new act into the market, then ruthlessly dropping them. Think of the many boy- and girl-groups in the late 90s/early 00s who had a hit or two the were dropped. Hell, even go as far back as the Monkees for manufactured acts with 'instant' success. The major problem I have with the winners is that the show doesn't seem to try hard enough. Each and every year they produce a lukewarm ballad, inferior to the original version if it's a cover. (Not sure if Shayne's was a cover but it was awful anyway) 'Hallelujah' is a brilliant song, yet Alexandra's, though quite good, wasn't the best version in the charts last Christmas. Now we have a cover of an alright song which, in my opinion, is just another lukewarm ballad. Joe seems like a nice guy but he won't have a major mainstream pop career for long if his team give him songs like 'The Climb' all the time. Simon, Louis, and whoever else runs the show obviously have contacts with great songwriters. Diane Warren? Xenomania? Cathy Dennis? If they have acts like George Michael and Macca performing it surely can't be too hard to get great stars to write the bloody winning song! How hard would it be to craft an original, possibly up- or at least mid-tempo, or even Christmassy song? If the winner's song is picked long before the final, to make it fair, etc, then they could stop being so f***ing complacent! Does Simon actually enjoy listening to the music that the winners produce? If the argument is that it would take too long to do, or that it may not suit the winner's voice, then: produce more than one new song. Not hard! You've got a whole year! Additionally: $h!t videos! If you watch the show, you've seen their original audition and the 'journey' to the final loads of times, if not, there's Youtube! Make a half decent video even if it's a bit cliched, not simple standing interspersed with old footage!!!

You are pretty ignorant thinking it is the best night of live music on telly for years, how about Jools Holland's annul hootenany, i'll agree that music is lacking on tv, but i perfer proper music, not karaoke, there is jools holland, bbc festival coverage (glasto, reading, t in the park), live at abbey road, even top of the pop's miming is better than the x factor. December 14, 200915 yr Since when did the campaign become anything to do with MONEY and Sony? Well, you clearly haven't taken any notice of RATM's own anti-Capitalist rants in their music and in interviews.... Being staunch anti-Capitalists has always been their stock-in trade....
December 14, 200915 yr So what if the guy ran a similar campaign on Facebook last year? It wasn't the one that had the majority of people getting behind it, so because he's doing it this year again shouldn't be cause to suspect him of benefitting himself or a record company. I have run campaigns in the past to get songs into the charts, but it wasn't about me or anyone else getting financial rewards. So, it's just a complete coincidence that both the acts he's promoting are Sony Corp acts is it...? Yeah, right, why didn't he promote, say, The Sex Pistols, The Killing Joke, The Dead Kennedys or System of Down then......? Sorry mate, you dont go from Promoting a puppet like Prick Astley one year to promoting someone like Rage, unless someone is paying you to do it.... Sony wins both ways no matter if X-Factor or RATM win this battle - THAT is the bottom line..... Sony aint giving their profit to charity are they...? The whole point of a "Charity" song is that NO ONE gets paid, but Sony is.... And that says it all for me....

Plus, it could well end up at #2, and it would be awful because it would have the opposite effect than the one officialy claimed : 1) it will fail to stop X Factor... 2) ... but it will push down every other deserving song! How unfair! Edited December 14, 200915 yr by Bert for Lashes
December 14, 200915 yr Sony or not.. The thing is that practically every song in the Christmas chart is rubbish, and the X-Factor song is the cherry on top of total rubbishness. So if RATM can oust some of the $h!te from the chart then it's a good thing

Yet you are actively support an act (The Muppets) released on the Walt Disney Record label. The same label that also provides Hannah Montana aka Miley Cyrus who is most famous for the song ........ The Climb. Yes the same Walt Disney who was a homophobe and a key Hollywood player in the McCarthy anti-Commie witchhunts of the 1950s. How subversive.
