December 13, 200915 yr Author Was definitely Ronan Keating at #2 for Xmas 2004. Steve Brookstein out the week later charted at #2, and then climbed to #1 to be the first #1 of 2005. I've double checked and I'm wrong - have edited it :P I was confused because of the dates but Steve entered at #2 on Boxing Day :drama: not like Simon not to wheel out the song in time for the xmas chart - that top five I posted was for a week later :o Father and Son was a marginally better xmas #2 but still not as good as the Boyzone version in my opinion...
December 13, 200915 yr why won't people buy decent music at xmas  ISTM most Xmas songs are once-a-year purchases by other people than the usual music fans, hence the unusual preferences... Edited December 13, 200915 yr by vidcapper
December 13, 200915 yr Author ISTM most Xmas songs are once-a-year purchases by other people than the usual music fans, hence the unusual preferences... true, although it was understandable when the charts were more physical based because CD singles made great stocking fillers, you'd think with the domination of downloads that normal music would have more of a chance - who wants to download novelty songs and atrocious covers for themselves? :heehee:
December 13, 200915 yr ^ True, but X-Factor and Novelty singles still sell lots of physicals, and more places stock them than usually sell singles too. Does anyone have a breakdown of all the downloads/physicals sold by X-Factor winners? Edited December 13, 200915 yr by John_Squire
December 13, 200915 yr  Good thread Rich! Goes to show we should in the main shush about how bad Xmas #1's are - I would much prefer most of the #1 songs up to that almost literal list of #2's! I knew the 2003 battle was very close, but I always thought that Mad World has it in the bag all week? I never knew how close the Teletubbies and Spice Girls were though :o
December 13, 200915 yr The Darkness and Mariah really deserved #1 the rest of them are pretty $h!t neways though tbh
