December 18, 200915 yr Author Billboard chart is the best chart IMO. If you have strong first week in sales, you will be number one. Lady Gaga didn't had strong first week and she lost number one. I'm glad for that. :)
December 18, 200915 yr Author Did Britnery get to number one with 3 in the US? Yes direct number one :)

I'm glad for that. :) She had enough sales to be the most bought song of the week, that should be enough to give her the #1... or are you glad all those years Britney was a flop on the Hot100 thanks to crappy airplay?
December 18, 200915 yr Author week one #3 week two #9 week three #5 week four #1 she jumped on top only after AMA performance. The times is changed, today is very easy get number one than the time when Britney flopped on BHOT100. Obviously i'm not happy with her singles performances before on billboard, but the rules are the rules. ;)

Blame record companies for not releasing her songs on CD singles! If you check the archive you can see all her pre-download hits were massive CD single hits!
December 18, 200915 yr There's been 15 #1's this Year in the US. The airplay-less UK charts will be on it's 32nd #1 of 2009 come Sunday. Edited December 18, 200915 yr by Jamieed

December 18, 200915 yr put simply, though, the most popular song of any weeks is the song which is purchased the most. there is no arguing with facts. for the most part, people don't have much of a choice in what gets played on the radio, etc. so billboard does not fairly name the most popular track of the week.

Read my post on Page 1. It's not Billboard's own rule, it's the rule made together with music labels... And I'm sure they know why to include airplay data in Hot 100! For sales there's a separate Hot Singles Sales and Hot Digital Songs chart, but the Hot 100 is considered to be America's official chart :P
December 19, 200915 yr On the other hand, do we really think that sales do really show people's tastes? I mean that all these sales are mostly based on: radio airplay, TV Shows etc. At least US doesn't have karaoke Christmas #1 for years. Saying that I agree that charts based on sales only are more objective because look at the British airplay chart! Some acts like U2, James Morrison or others always have good airplay but their singles flop, and it would be far more unfair if they got high peak just because of airplay.

I'm glad for that. :) yes but it's really unfair that Lady Gaga sold the most downloads yet it failed to reach number 1 because US radio only plays hip-hop and rap (Jay-Z & Co) !!! :arrr:
