December 18, 200916 yr Friday Update The gap between Rage Against The Machine and Joe McElderry in midweek sales figures has narrowed to just under 9,000 copies, as the race for the Christmas number one single goes right to the wire. Rage Against The Machine’s Nineties hit Killing In The Name had established a 60% lead over McElderry’s The Climb earlier this week, only for this to be cut back as the CD single of The Climb hit stores. The latest OCC figures show that Killing In The Name is still ahead – but only just. Killing In The Name has sold just over 306,000 copies so far this week, while The Climb has shifted around 297,000. The Climb has been helped by sales of more than 150,000 CD singles, while sales of Killing In The Name have been entirely digital. Bookmaker Ladbrokes yesterday re-installed The Climb as favourite to top the Christmas charts. With the weekend likely to see many consumers doing their Christmas shopping – and the suitability of The Climb as a stocking filler – the race looks set to go right to the end of Saturday. ====================== Friday Update Singles http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/4722242.JPG 01 Rage Against The Machine 306,115 02 Joe McElderry 297,192 03 Lady GaGa 04 Peter Kay 05 3OH!3 feat. December 18, 200916 yr Joe 9,000 behind - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a19...art-battle.html I think it'd be HILARIOUS if Joe beats Rage by a few copies just for peoples reactions. It'd be like Cascada vs MJ all over again. I second that Joe. Tbh I'm not fussed who wins as neither really are great tracks, but just to see the outrage on here would be enough to give me a few chuckles. Pity I won't be around for the chart thread on Sunday .... :( :P
December 18, 200916 yr At least if Joe does not get a No 1 I hope it means we will be seeing less of him and his one and only album will be out in March. The song and video are so poor, you wait three minutes for something to happen and it never does.Trust Simon and Cheryl to claim Joe is being bullied the best way to win sympathy.I heard that Paul McCartney is supporting Team RATM.

December 18, 200916 yr Haha Paddy power now 1/10 on Joe :w00t: If you listen hard enough, you can hear the fat lady 'warming up'. Joe will be number 1 on Sunday without any doubt at all, and that was always going to be the case in my view.

December 18, 200916 yr Don't write Rage off just yet Look at the sales pattern: Rage- 78,000 yesterday, 53,000 today Joe- 106,000 yesterday, 89,000 today Joes sales are declining, if a similar pattern continues till sunday, Rage could just about grab it This has truly been the first genuine time this year that it isn't clear what is topping the charts, It is so good to see a genuine chart battle underway at christmas, with everyone wondering what will be number 1 and not just saying 'yeah, X factors got it', even if this campaign does fail, It will be close and The campaigners will try again next year, and it could work eventually, it is great to see the chart getting publicity again
December 18, 200916 yr ...even if this campaign does fail, It will be close and The campaigners will try again next year, and it could work eventually... I hope so!

Going to need a huge swing from Rage to change that, can't see it.

December 18, 200916 yr Just as Saturday will see Joe's sales probably at their highest, the RAGE campaigners have also requested that people download, buy and encourage their friends and family to buy on Saturday. They are hoping for their biggest days of sales as well.Keep Trying
December 18, 200916 yr Albums 34 Katherine Jenkins [believe] . May I ask where "Katherine Jenkins - Ultimate Collection" is. Thanks.
December 18, 200916 yr 01 Rage Against The Machine 306,115 02 Joe McElderry 297,192 "Rage Against the Machine" need to sell another 200k if they want #1 - not gonna happen guys :( And if it had been downloads only, Simon Cowell would have released the CD single as a download (EP1), and some Jason Nevins remixes (EP2)

It will count and not seen as a duplicate by OCC. I doubt they will do this however as they seem pretty clueless about the OCC side of things.
December 18, 200916 yr Come On RAGE! I think thew news of the lead being reduced to 9,000 will encourage alot of RATM supporters to download it. What if the BBC decides to do wat it did when God Save the Queen went to number 1 but announced it was number 2? Also, could we see the biggest ever fall from number 1 if they do manage it? Or indeed from number 2?
December 18, 200916 yr ^_^ 80,300 :P great even less! Honestly, it will be close whoever wins
December 18, 200916 yr All this X-mas shopping boom is going to be on Saturday, isn't it? If so, Joe will certainly win it.
