December 28, 200915 yr I like this period, though 1991 was a lot better. 1 1 Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas? I think the 2004 version was far worse, even though the "calibre" of artists on this is clearly not. 2 3 Jason Donovan - When You Come Back To Me -_- I love a bit of SAW, but sorry Jason, no thanks. 3 6 Soul II Soul - Get A Life :D Great track! 4 2 Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers - Let's Party :puke2: Novelty tosh 5 5 Madonna - Dear Jessie -_- Not her finest moment. 6 4 Andy Stewart - Donald Where's Your Troosers? {1989} Eh? 7 7 Kaoma - Lambada :puke2: Dear god no! 8 13 De La Soul - The Magic Number/Buddy :) Nice track, not their best though. 9 ne New Kids On The Block - Hangin' Tough {1990} :puke2: Yuck, no! 10 14 New Kids On The Block - You Got It (The Right Stuff) :puke2: Jesus christ, again??! And of the rest, I like... 11 11 Rob 'N' Raz Featuring Leila K - Got To Get  Great party track, dead cheesey now. 13 12 Electronic - Getting Away With It 20 30 Sonia - Listen To Your Heart :) I'm sorry I know this is awful SAW generic rubbish, but I can't help but like this! 23 27 49ers - Touch Me :) Poor mans Black Box, but I still like this. 25 28 FPI Project - Going Back To My Roots/Rich In Paradise  Nothing amazing, but I like it anyway. 31 15 Dusty Springfield - In Private 32 56 Happy Mondays - Madchester Rave On (EP) 33 ne Mantronix Featuring Wondress - Got To Have Your Love 34 32 Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World 35 29 The Stone Roses - Fool's Gold/What The World Is Waiting For 36 ne D Mob - Put Your Hands Together 37 34 Neneh Cherry - Inna City Mamma 47 42 Inner City - Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin' Edited December 28, 200915 yr by ScottyEm
December 30, 200915 yr 5 5 Madonna - Dear Jessie I absolutely loved this song!!! 8 13 De La Soul - The Magic Number/Buddy Liked all of their singles of this period 13 12 Electronic - Getting Away With It Indie super group produced this ok single 32 56 Happy Mondays - Madchester Rave On (EP) Epoch defining single 35 29 The Stone Roses - Fool's Gold/What The World Is Waiting For Even more epoch defining single 37 34 Neneh Cherry - Inna City Mamma I so like Neneh's debut album - great record. Went downhill after that though
December 30, 200915 yr These were decent enough: 3 6 Soul II Soul - Get A Life 8 13 De La Soul - The Magic Number/Buddy 13 12 Electronic - Getting Away With It  21 23 Erasure - You Surround Me  31 15 Dusty Springfield - In Private 32 56 Happy Mondays - Madchester Rave On (EP) 33 ne Mantronix Featuring Wondress - Got To Have Your Love 34 32 Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World 35 29 The Stone Roses - Fool's Gold/What The World Is Waiting For  38 31 The Beautiful South - I'll Sail This Ship Alone 41 50 Halo James - Could Have Told You So
January 1, 201015 yr Let's see what I think of the Top 10 ... and what I like of the remainder of the chart: 1 1 Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas? ..... vile vile vile effort compare to the original 5 years earlier. 2 3 Jason Donovan - When You Come Back To Me ..... probably Jason's least worst SAW produced effort. 3 6 Soul II Soul - Get A Life ..... a great track featuring the Vocals of Alexandra Burke's mum. 4 2 Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers - Let's Party ...... death by myxomatosis 5 5 Madonna - Dear Jessie ..... I love this children's track with a lovely orchestral Beatles inspired feel to it. 6 4 Andy Stewart - Donald Where's Your Troosers? {1989} ..... I curse you Simon Mayo for allowing this to happen. 7 7 Kaoma - Lambada ...... I hate this track nearly as much as I hate Simon Cowell. But then again Simon Cowell was the A&R rep who got this song hyped up into the charts. Proof that back at the beginning of the 1990s he was already peddling $h!te musical excrement to the masses. 8 13 De La Soul - The Magic Number/Buddy .... Good track but not their best. 9 ne New Kids On The Block - Hangin' Tough {1990} ....... Awful track by an awful arrogant (they still think they are/were better/more talented than Take That = idiots) band. 10 14 New Kids On The Block - You Got It (The Right Stuff) ..... Marginally better than the #9 song. 13 12 Electronic - Getting Away With It 16 8 Tina Turner - I Don't Wanna Lose You 19 21 Sydney Youngblood - Sit And Wait 22 9 Linda Ronstadt And Aaron Neville - Don't Know Much 23 27 49ers - Touch Me 24 ne Quireboys - Hey You 28 18 The Christians - Words 30 ne Deacon Blue - Queen Of The New Year 31 15 Dusty Springfield - In Private 32 56 Happy Mondays - Madchester Rave On (EP) 33 ne Mantronix Featuring Wondress - Got To Have Your Love 34 32 Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World 35 29 The Stone Roses - Fool's Gold/What The World Is Waiting For 38 31 The Beautiful South - I'll Sail This Ship Alone 39 26 UB40 - Homely Girl 40 60 Van Morrison And Cliff Richard - Whenever God Shines His Light 41 50 Halo James - Could Have Told You So 43 38 Belinda Carlisle - La Luna 44 36 Duran Duran - Burning The Ground 45 33 Phil Collins - Another Day In Paradise
January 1, 201015 yr Sales at this time must've been terrible. I remember reading somewhere (it might've even been on Cool Clarity years ago) that 'Hanging Tough' by NKOTB sold around 20k the week it climbed to no. 1 and Band Aid II wasn't exactly the big selling no. 1 single either. At the time I was only 8 years old and liked Band Aid II, Jason Donovan, Sonia, Big Fun and most of the pop fluff that was in the charts then. As I've got older, I look back to those songs that I liked then and I cringe now. My fave songs from this top 40 - that I still like today are: 3 6 Soul II Soul - Get A Life 7 7 Kaoma - Lambada (it was novelty fun with a cheesey charm :D ) 8 13 De La Soul - The Magic Number 11 11 Rob 'N' Raz Featuring Leila K - Got To Get 13 12 Electronic - Getting Away With It 16 8 Tina Turner - I Don't Wanna Lose You 23 27 49ers - Touch Me 24 ne Quireboys - Hey You 31 15 Dusty Springfield - In Private 33 ne Mantronix Featuring Wondress - Got To Have Your Love 34 32 Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World 35 29 The Stone Roses - Fool's Gold 36 ne D Mob - Put Your Hands Together 39 26 UB40 - Homely Girl 45 33 Phil Collins - Another Day In Paradise
January 1, 201015 yr 4 2 Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers - Let's Party As for this monstrosity, I hated it when I was 8 and I hate it even more now. The butchering of great 70s tracks. Jive Bunny really should've ended after 'Swing The Mood' (which I'll admit I still like, but everything else...pfft!!!).

Cheers Mushymanrob :D It's a shame that all sales figures were rounded to the nearest ten back in the early 90s. I'm a complete UK chart nerd and find things like sales figures really interesting to read. I believe the record lowest sales for a no. 1 single is Orson 'No Tomorrow' selling 17,694 copies which is appalling. Even this week those sales wouldn't get you anywhere near the top 10. Daniel Bedingfield 'Gotta Get Through This' sold around 25,000 when it returned to no. 1 in January 2002. The NKOTB sales must've been not fair off this figure. I know 1984 was a massive year for singles sales - six million sellers making up the top 7 biggest selling singles of the 80s (Human League 'Don't You Want Me' being the only song to break the chain).

(just so we dont get swamped by kids thinking hear'say are retro...lol) and to concentrate on the decades that have provided us with the richest musical heritage on the planet! but comparisons to things post y2k are in order... :) please feel free to start threads that enhance chart facts over the years.
