April 24, 201015 yr Loving the fact OMG wasn't number 1 in Ireland. :yahoo: Hope Diana can rise to the top spot next friday. OMG could well go to No.1 next week though, performing well on iTunes. That is if Glee doesn't replace itself at No.1 with Like A Prayer! :o
April 24, 201015 yr Just had a look at the certifications there, Lady GaGa sold over 135,000 albums in Ireland last year :o Yet I don't get how Susan Boyle supposedly is 8x platinum, Lady GaGa is 9x platinum, yet Susan Boyle was listed as the best seller of the year? Can anybody clear that up? April 25, 201015 yr Just had a look at the certifications there, Lady GaGa sold over 135,000 albums in Ireland last year :o Yet I don't get how Susan Boyle supposedly is 8x platinum, Lady GaGa is 9x platinum, yet Susan Boyle was listed as the best seller of the year? Can anybody clear that up? Certifications are based on shipments, the year-end chart was based on sales. That makes sense because GaGa's album had all of last year for the CD stores to re-stock whereas Susan only had 2 months. Susan has sold more copies but there are more copies of TFM on the shelves. & Lady GaGa is probably 11x/12x platinum by now seeing as she's been in the top 5/10 since January, so that would put her at 180,000 :o :D Edited April 25, 201015 yr by KKBL

Will.i.am) – his tenth Irish hit single and second No1, six years after reaching the top with ‘Yeah!’. The Glee Cast leap seventeen places from No19 to No2 with Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’, while their ‘Gives You Hell’ travels in the opposite direction, down nine places from No1 to No10. James O’Connor & Audrey Trainor have this week’s highest new entry at No9 with ‘Falling Up’, released across seven versions covering a range of genres. Cathy Davey has the next new entry at No17 with her independently-released ‘Little Red’ – her first Irish hit single despite both albums making the Top 30. Nashville country music group Lady Antebellum have the third and final Top 20 new entry with their US triple-platinum single ‘Need You Now’ new at No18. AC/DC’s ‘Iron Man 2’ soundtrack holds at No1 on the Album Chart for a second week, ahead of a resurgent Lady Gaga who jumps from No7 back to No2 with ‘The Fame’. Glee’s ‘The Power Of Madonna’ is this week’s highest climber, up seventeen places from No22 to No5, which means there are now three Glee albums in the Top 10 – Volume 1 is at No8 and Volume 2 is at No9. Josh Ritter has this week’s highest new entry at No7 with his seventh album ‘So Runs The World Away’, his fourth Irish Top 10 album following ‘Hello Starling’ (2003), ‘The Animal Years’ (2006) and ‘The Historical Conquests Of’ (2007). Usher has the next new entry at No17 with his sixth studio album ‘Raymond v Raymond’, the follow-up to ‘Here I Stand’ which debuted at No2 in May 2008. Shaky Fan's Commentary This weekend sees the 3000th Singles chart in the UK. In Ireland we have the 200th Download chart - look out during the week as I'll be posting a history of its no 1s. A correction on the compllation chart where I've discovered that I was getting the Twilight and Twilight: New Moon soundtracks mixed up. I will edit the affected posts asap but for now the last 5 weeks for the New Moon album should read 10 9 9 19 - 28. The Twlight OST was at no 22 in the first of those weeks. Any fans of Josh Ritter - who has the highest entry on the album chart - can grab 5 free tracks if they're quick from http://www.hotpress.com/joshritterweek/index.php Finally - not directly connected to the charts - but one of Irelands top broadcasters Gerry Ryan died suddenly on Friday morning. 2FM for whom Gerry presented a daily morning show changed its output heavily to reflect this when the news broke during the afternoon and it will be interesting to see if this has any effect on next week's chart. April 30, 201015 yr Shocking! I had no idea Irish sales were so poor! I also can't believe Like a Prayer didn't get No. 1
April 30, 201015 yr ... and it sold only 1492 copies to do so! Is that downloads and physicals, cos that's ridiculous
April 30, 201015 yr Is that downloads and physicals, cos that's ridiculous  Its just downloads as there's no physical for OMG. While it is surprising its that low, its not shocking. When they released the top 40 of the decade and I Gotta Feeling was only #37 after 12 weeks at #1, it was kinda obvious then that sales must be quite low. Its weird as many countries single sales like the UK and Australia are having the best sales for years yet Ireland its very poor.
April 30, 201015 yr Your gonna have to provide some form of a source for that info, cause I remember reading that the average No.1 in Ireland sold 6,000 a week.
April 30, 201015 yr Your gonna have to provide some form of a source for that info, cause I remember reading that the average No.1 in Ireland sold 6,000 a week. Where did you hear that? They release very little info (most of the info i know is from chart track commentary) but there is no way a #1 sells that amount (bar from charity or X factor winners). I remember when Mario (Leave right now) was #1 on Christmas 2005, it was the fastest seller of the year and was the 11th best seller of 2005, but only sold 18k, meaning the top 10 of that year only sold over the amount. I remember reading an article saying Numb/Encore sold 2,000 the week it was #1 too. If you read the commentary from late 2009 when Joe was #1, he sold 20,000+ in his second week (maybe 40k at best by the end of last year?) and that was the 20th best seller of the entire decade (actually if you go by that very rough total then many big hits of last decade sold less than that). April 30, 201015 yr I couldn't tell you the name of the site for the life of me, but i remember googling 'irish music sales' or something similar, and i found a site that said that on an average week, a no.1 sold 6000, a no.10 sold around 1000 and to get to get into the top 20 you'd have to sell around 250. If you have the patience to scroll though the irish chart 2009 thread you'll find the site I am talking about.
April 30, 201015 yr Author This goes back about 4 years but this is what I was told by IRMA back in 2006 Certifications in Ireland are as follows: Albums: Gold: 7,500 units sold Platinum: 15,000 units sold Singles: Silver: 7,500 units sold Gold: 10,000 units sold Platinum: 15,000 units sold There are no average single sales as it depends on the release of new repertoire, but on a slow week 500 sales could make the Top 20. There are no average album sales as it depends on the release of new repertoire, but on a slow week 400 sales could make the Top 20. Like Irishguy I'd be more willing to believe Usher's sales if we had a source rather than take the word of someone who has posted 7 times in the 2 1/2 years since signing up - 2 of those here today, 1 when signing up and the others all on the subject of Glee.....
April 30, 201015 yr ^^ If it took 500 sales to make the top 20 in a slow week in 2006, it's without question that this would be considerably more in 2010, given the inception of downloads and, given the fact that music sales are increasing universally, I see no reason why Ireland would not be included in this trend. So if the a no.20 is selling a lot more than 500, it goes without saying that the no.1 would be considerably more, at least a few thousand. So given that ushers supposed sales remain sourceless, and using logic, I think its safe to say that it's bull$h!te
April 30, 201015 yr I don't believ that Usher figure, no offense. In th UK there are 62,041,708 people so lets say 60,000,000 but the average #1 single sells ~60,000, so its 1/1000 of the population In Ireland there are 4,459,300 people, Logic can presume that a #1 would sell ~4,500.
