Adam Young from Minnesota) soars all the way to the top of the Singles Chart this week with ‘Fireflies’, adding Ireland to the impressive list of territories (including USA, Canada, Australia, Netherlands & Denmark) where the song has topped the chart. Iyaz climbs one place to No2 with ‘Replay’, moving ahead of Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ which drops from No1 to No3. It’s another good week for the cast of Glee who have seven songs in the Top 50, but there’s only one other new entry in this week’s Top 30 - JLS at No19 with their third release ‘One Shot’. Their previous two ‘Beat Again’ and ‘Everybody In Love’ reached No3 and No2 respectively last year. Lady Gaga returns to the top of the Album Chart with ‘The Fame’ after a 42-week break, just one sale ahead of Paolo Nutini whose ‘Sunny Side Up’ slips to No2 after two weeks on top. There are two new entries in this week’s chart: Justin Bieber at No12 with his debut album ‘My World’ and Eels at No13 with ‘End Times’. This is Eels’ eighth studio album in 14 years, and all eight have made the Irish Top 50, including last year’s ‘Hombre Lobo’ which debuted and peaked at No24 Shaky Fan's Commentary Despite the fact that it's only a Top 20 Journey's Don't Stop Believin' manages a 39th week in the Download chart. Chart Track Commentary Musicians Hope For Haiti This week’s chart headlines are grabbed by the MTV Networks ‘Hope For Haiti’ project, raising funds for the victims of last week's devastating earthquake on the island. An all-star line-up of perfomers joined the telethon on Friday and their contributions were available online the next day. Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge and Rihanna joined forces to perform ‘Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)’ and downloads of the song amassed enough sales to debut at No3 on this week’s Singles Chart. Further funds are being generated by the digital album ‘Hope For Haiti Now’ which is this week’s highest selling album, debuting at No1 on the Compilation Chart. Meanwhile Owl City takes a second week at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Fireflies’, while Lady Gaga and Paolo Nutini continue to wrestle for the Artist Albums crown. Last week just one sale separated the two in favour of Lady Gaga: this week the gap is 31 sales, and it’s Lady Gaga who retains the crown with ‘The Fame’ for a seventh week at No1 since release a year ago. The wonders of technology! A recording made less than 7 days ago has become the biggest selling album of the week. A rare type of chart topper in the compilation listing as it is a live album. The Queen & David Bowie original reached No2 nearly 30 years ago. Owl City’s ‘Fireflies’ drops to No2 after two weeks on top, ahead of Timbaland & Katy Perry who leap from No15 to No3 with ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ – one of two songs featuring Katy Perry in this week’s chart alongside ‘Starstrukk’ with 3OH!3 at No13. The next highest new entry is another Queen cover - Glee Cast at No10 with their take on ‘Somebody To Love’, one of five Glee songs in this week’s Top 40. The original version of the song was a No6 hit for Queen in 1976, although a Freddie Mercury tribute version with George Michael & Lisa Stansfield made it to No1 in 1993. There’s no change at the top of the Album Chart for a third consecutive week, with Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame’ at No1 and Paolo Nutini’s ‘Sunny Side Up’ at No3. Mumford & Sons hit a new chart peak at No4 for ‘Sigh No More', up from No6 seventeen weeks after the album’s release back in October 2009. Ke$ha has this week’s highest new entry at No8 with her debut album ‘Animal’, following her breakthrough No1 with Flo Rida on ‘Right Round’ and her solo No3 hit ‘Tik Tok’. Two well-received albums debut outside this week’s Top 10: Midlake at No15 with their third album ‘The Courage Of Others’ (their first chart appearance in Ireland) and Hot Chip at No17 with ‘One Life Stand’ (their follow up to ‘Made In The Dark’ which debuted at No9 two years ago).
