What 'The X Factor' winner has going for him is that his CD single is a cheap stocking-filler for parents to give their kids. "The Rubberbandits' CD has 35 f***s on it. On the 19th September 1997 Elton John’s Diana tribute ‘Candle In The Wind’ smashed the record for selling the most singles in a week in Ireland – 55,000 sales over the previous seven days. Thirteen years later Matt Cardle comes within 500 sales of beating that record with ‘When We Collide’ – this year’s Christmas No1. Whereas ‘Candle In The Wind’ sold on CD (66%) and cassette (34%), the sales of ‘Where We Collide’ were split 91% CD and 9% download, handing Matt Cardle the accolade of best-selling CD single in Ireland over a week ever. Rubberbandits put up a heroic challenge to the X-Factor winner, trouncing their own record of the previous week to claim the best-selling download ever in a week with ‘Horse Outside’. Their overall sales, however, were less than half Matt Cardle’s tally so they remain runners-up in the Christmas race. (Contrary to rumour, one download sale is the same as one CD for chart compilation purposes). Meanwhile on the Album Chart Take That claim their second Christmas No1 album in three years with ‘Progress’ - matching the success of ‘The Circus’ in December 2008. Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ is the Christmas runner-up, followed by The Script who climb two places to No3 with ‘Science & Faith’. For the past three years blockbuster movies have dominated the Christmas Video Chart, but this year Dara O Briain takes the No1 honours with ‘This Is The Show’ – the first comedy Christmas No1 since Pat Shortt’s ‘You Won’t Get Away With That Here’ in 2006. ‘Inception’ and ‘Toy Story 3’ complete the festive Top 3, and the top Music Video is ‘The Official OMG It’s Jedward!’. I had no idea Boyzone's Love Is A Hurricane was so big there, and rather more shocked to see Gave It All Away miss the top 40 seeing as I recall it going to #1 :(
December 26, 201014 yr im ashamed jedward have the best selling single of the year,its great to see sale sinfor in ireland as its so rare and going by that the best selling single of the year must sell around 100,000 in ireland, which is alot more than i thought.

December 26, 201014 yr Interesting to see songs that are so old make the top 40, such as Sweet Disposition and Little Lion Man :o Also incredible to see DDAO there considering it was originally released back in 2008. So Bad Romance was No.10 last year and No.11 this year, would love to know if it's combined sales are actually more than Love The Way You Lie or I Gotta Feeling from last year. Would also like to remind people that this isn't the official end of year chart, Matt will still go to No.1 :rolleyes:

December 26, 201014 yr Author Would also like to remind people that this isn't the official end of year chart, Matt will still go to No.1 :rolleyes: The chart was broadcast on Friday evening so there are still sales to be added in - I presume this is the early version that is normally broadcast on 2FM!
December 26, 201014 yr Thank god it is not the offical one yet and hopefully matt will go number 1 and with the sales we have got i can see him doing it, i would hate jedward to o it. More worryinly i think jedward will be very high on the year end album chart, and im dying to find out if take that have managed to outsell westlife here.
