This chart is based on a points system - 100 points for #1, 1 point for #100.

It encompasses the Official UK Top 100 Singles charts from week ending 10th January 2009 to week ending 2nd January 2010.

Yes, this chart has a bias towards songs released earlier, because they have more chart weeks that count here, but there's nothing I can do about this sadly.

Whoop the B-Rye chart is back. :)

It is

It's a one-off though, unless I'm still around at the beginning of 2011.

Sorry to be ignorant but what is this based on. It's probably been on this forum for ages but I don't know. Sorry again

Hmm I thought I'd explained it in the first post, but basically it's based on a points system for chart positions (nothing to do with sales).

If a song is #1 one week, it will get 100 points, #2 gets 99 points, #3 98 points etc. down to #100 which gets 1 point. This chart encompasses 52 sets of the UK Official Top 100 Singles Chart compiled by the OCC from w/e 10 Jan 2009 to w/e 2 Jan 2010.

Great chart but I have a slight urge to weight tracks released later in the year. Look at how badly Meet Me Half Way has done compared to say Up from The Saturdays...

I'd love to do this, but I have absolutely no idea how I could weight it effectively.

I had an idea of dividing the points by the weeks, but I realised that that would just make later releases more favoured - Joe would have 99.5 points, and 2nd place would be far behind, 96 points for 3OH!3. It would also disadvantage songs that entered in the low top 100 onalbum downloads and slowly climbed - or in the case of RATM (73.333... points) very quickly climbed. And songs which charted fairly high then completely vanished (Airi L 22-out, Honey Ryder 31-out etc.) would also have an unfair advantage.

Also, BEP have actually done extremely well to make the top 75 in just 12 weeks here, especially considering that one of those weeks it was #67.

yeah...dividing by weeks will just give you an average inverted position...if you know what I mean.

Whatever way you do it Joe and RATM would do well event hough they are obviously not going to be in the chart in three months time which isn't the point of the chart.

What I suppose would balance out is that if this was done on a rolling basis instead of just a 12 month chunk.

So each month a points chart is published of the previous 12 months. Then songs that sell over the new year would rise to a natural peak and then fall again.

That seems like a good idea, but I don't think I could quite cope with typing out a list of 200 every month

It's only 22-40 because believe it or not there's a tie at #20. How two songs could come up with exactly the same number of points when they're over 1,600 is a bit beyond me, but it happened :P

#11 to #20 (with videos) will be posted at 7pm, then the top 10 will be posted at 6 minute intervals from then on, so it'll be finished by 8pm. Fun!

That seems like a good idea, but I don't think I could quite cope with typing out a list of 200 every month

No way. Typing should never be done. Surely copy/paste is the way forward. And a Top 50 would do. I might consider doing it.

Actually yeah, copy/pasting would be more effective  I could probably cope with doing a top 100.

In case you're wondering, I have a spreadsheet to work out the points and weeks, so if there are any errors it was me typing in the weekly positions wrong :P

do you use a pivot table to do it?

I don't know what this means, but if it helps, the layout is this:

Column A = Artist

Column B = Song

Columns C-BB = Weeks 1-52

Column BC = Points (formula: =5252-SUM(C#:BB#)-((52-BD#)*101))

Column BD = Weeks (formula: =IF(C#,1,0)+IF(D#,1,0)+IF(E#,1,0)+IF(F#,1,0)+IF(G#,1,0)+IF(H#,1,0)+IF(I#,1,0)+IF... etc. I wish I knew a more concise formula for this but I'm not exactly an Excel whiz )

Column BE = Peak (formula: =MIN(C#:BB#))

# replaced by the row number

I'm backtracking through older years for my own personal interest/geekity/boredom, and I've started a new page for 2010 with the same formulas.

There should be a quicker way to do it than that.

I am indeed an excel whiz. I will try and develop something. Although I dont have a working version of Excel...

I will have to buy one soon.

Is there a formula to count the number of cells in a selection that contain data?

If there is I could make the formula in Column BD a hell of a lot shorter.
