January 9, 201015 yr How pathetic, still, bleating on about a single 'only' making No11 ; some people seriously need to get a sense of perspective, when you think about all the issues you could campaign on. :banghead:
January 9, 201015 yr About the poll... Aren't the options Top 20, Top 30, Top 40, Top 75 all Fails anyway? Also, stupid campaign for many reasons and I love the song.
January 9, 201015 yr Stupid campaign started by a few with too much time on their hands, i'm a big aloud fan but definately won't be buying, i already have it on cd. Top 75.

January 10, 201015 yr The Article below was in last night's 'Manchester Evening News'. According to them, there are 2 rival 'Campaigns' to get a Single to No.1 - the other is for The Smiths. Line 3 has the writer clearly thinking that 'Untouchable' is the only Girls Aloud Single to fail to reach No.1. In fact, they've had 21 Top 20 Hits, & only 4 went to No.1 - less than 20% of their Hits. She has misunderstood, & not realised that 'Untouchable' is their only Single to fail to reach the Top 10 - not to fail to get to No.1. It's The Smiths v Girls Aloud Katherine Faulkner January 09, 2010 A SHOWDOWN is brewing between Manchester legends The Smiths and pop superstars Girls Aloud. Fans of both acts are battling it out on social networking website Facebook to get them to number one in the second week of February. Girls Aloud fans want the group's single Untouchable to top the charts. The song, which was released in April last year, was the group's only single not to top the charts. But a Smiths tribute band, The Smiths Indeed, have started a rival campaign to give the Mancunian band their first ever British number one on the 25th anniversary of one of their most successful records. The tribute act want How Soon Is Now to reach number one to celebrate the February 1985 release of Meat Is Murder, the band’s most successful album. The group backing Girls Aloud is more than twice as big, with 7,333 fans. But The Smiths group was only launched on Tuesday and has so far attracted 3,127 members – nearly 1,000 a day. The campaign has been backed by ex-Smiths drummer Mike Joyce. The Smiths Indeed lead singer Jurgen Wendelen, 32, said he thought The Smiths' chances against Girls Aloud were very good.’ Liverpool-based Mr. Wendelen said: "I don't rate Girls Aloud's music at all. "It is manufactured -– it doesn't come from anywhere, it doesn't say anything. If anyone deserves a UK number one it is The Smiths. "Their contribution to British culture is outstanding. "The Smiths' music was created out of a need to say something real through music and that is what we need now in the charts." 'How Soon Is Now' is considered by many to be the band's best song, but was released as a B-side and never reached number one. Mr. Wendelen said: "It would be fantastic to get it to number one to celebrate the Smiths and their enormous impact on music." The Smiths formed in Manchester in 1982 but never released a single that charted higher than at number 10 in Britain. The top spot will go to the single bought or downloaded the most times between January 31 and February 6. Edited January 10, 201015 yr by zeus555

Katherine Faulkner I can only conclude it was a very quiet day at the Manchester Evening News press office and Katherine's article got published just to fill some pages. Especially as it's been poorly researched. The Smiths will fail as I don't think anyone even knew about it - don't think anyone here mentioned it. The only other Facebook campaign I'm aware of is The Sex Pistols in June 2010. January 10, 201015 yr i hope this works the face book group has over 7,800 members when i last checked. They'll need probably >23k. FYI, for the last few months it's been selling around 400/wk on average. Edited January 10, 201015 yr by vidcapper
January 10, 201015 yr It has enough members for a top 40 position, and it has too many other songs to go against for top 10, including the Avenged Sevenfold - Afterlife campaign which has 34,000 members so far.

January 10, 201015 yr Roll on Sunday June 6th. Already 250,000+ Facebook followers and rising. :D What campain is this for June 6th? :o
January 10, 201015 yr What do you mean? There is no Sunday Sun, its the NOTW? It's a local newspaper in the North East of England, I imagine gets a meagre amount of readers compared to the nationals.
January 10, 201015 yr I don't get why some people are being so harsh about it. There's no need for people to "f**k off and get a life" at all, would you rather people sit around and complain that a song didn't reach the top ten? At least they're doing something about it! The campaign has gotten alot of media coverage and there's alot of radio stations behind it. ITV Wales have even asked a few people from the campaign to do a video diary with them showing how its being promoted etc which will be shown on the programme in the days leading up to the chart. The only problem is the lack of members at the moment.
January 10, 201015 yr So thats Avenged Sevenfold, Girls Aloud, Kiss and The Smiths plus probably another one at christmas- It is seriously frustrating how these people think this will work
January 10, 201015 yr Don't forget that on GAM is few thousand people, if they read about this campaign on GAM, what for they would join to facebook group? I don't believe in top 10, but if they want have #75 they have to buy 3-4k. the belief that they will not have 3 or 4 thousand is pathetic.
January 10, 201015 yr So thats Avenged Sevenfold, Girls Aloud, Kiss and The Smiths plus probably another one at christmas- It is seriously frustrating how these people think this will work  If they all miraculousy work and all go top 10 (or in The Sex Pistols case no. 1), just think of how many more Facebook campaigns we could potentially have before the year is out. :o
January 10, 201015 yr That journalist should have at least checked Wikipedia. How Soon is Now? was released as a single, not just a b-side.
