Fair play to him getting to the final, a fully fit Nadal would have murdered him but you can only beat what is infront of you and he did that

Federer will be tough to beat assuming its Federer who gets to the final

TBF Nadal was playing brilliant in the first set and a half (fully fit best) but Murray was on fire.

I would have loved a semi finals with both Williams' and Henin and Clijsters, would have brought back good memories.

Gutted to see Djokovic drop out, that's five quid down the drain. I'm surprised he struggles so much in Aus.

I'll now be throwing my support behind Murray. It would be god to see him win this weekend but I think Fed is gonna take some beating.

He's not been on great form since the Aus Open 08 when he won against Tsonga in the final, I can't see him winning another slam tbh.

I'd actually fancy Murray to beat Federer more than Tsonga. I just have that funny feeling in my waters

When I switched on this morning and saw him one set down, I thought here we go again, but he turned it around superbly :D

Go Federer :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I will never understand why a Brit does not want a fellow Brit to win.

Sadly Murray was not playing Tennis at the level he did against Nadal in the QF; so the close friend of cheats Tiger Woods; Thierry Henry & Michael Schumaher won his 16th Major.

Go Federer :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

-_- I echo thisispop's thoughts.

You are as bad as Crazy Chris wanting Brazil to win the World Cup.

Murray made comments once about hating the England team and wanting them to lose against Brazil

If he hates England he can't expect England to like him

Federer is a genius, I see nothing wrong too in enjoying watching a genius at his work

We are probably never going to see another player like him in our lifetime, well at least not in mine

It was a joke at his fellow Scottish nationals who hate English football.

I listened to that interview on Radio 5 Live in 2006 that were made in jest during a light-hearted interview with sports columnist Des Kelly & Tim Henman who asked him if he would be supporting Scotland in the World Cup, in the knowledge that Scotland had failed to qualify for the tournament.

Because he comes across as a massive c**t. Even without the Scottish/English thing I can't stand the bloke, he come across as massively arrogant and he's been way overhyped by the media and all of his fans. Federer, on the other hand, is remarkable and nothing but a gentleman. His hype is well and truly deserved. Why should I support one person, just because he's from the same country as I am, if his character makes me like him far less than his oponent?

The same as Jenson Button has always, to me at least, come across as a bit arrogant and smarmy, he's far less likeable and charming than say, Nick Heidfeld or Juan Pablo Montoya, so why should he be the F1 driver I support most just because he's from the same country that I am?

Ignoring all the arguments in here, I'm genuinely upset for him most of all. It was actually very nice to see him cry at the end, it showed a bit of emotion from him, which he often seems to be void of. Quite simply today, he wasn't up to the best of his game, and whilst he did hit some stellar shots, he was nowhere near the level that he was when he faced Nadal, which is a shame. Murray couldn't take advantage of his chances today, and that was the decider, at the end of the day. But, yes, it is sad, as I really did think he could do it, but bless him is more what I'd say right now.

Surely he sured more emotion than the usual dead-pan, 'Yeah, well done' or 'I'm so glad I made it through' where it seemed like he wished he was somewhere else.

I'll support the Brits, even if some won't.

The way I see it was if a Belgian, American or Norwegian had the same personality traits as Andy Murray and was as overhyped I wouldn't like them, and no one would say I'm wrong for not liking them, so why should I like Andy Murray just because he's from the same country?

I also completely see why someone may be English and not want England to win the World Cup, if you only take a passing interest in the sport and don't really follow it then you probably think (with fairly decent reasoning) that England are a bunch of overhyped and overpaid players who aren't as good as you'd believe from the things you hear about them from their fans and the things you read about them in the press. That's how I feel with Murray, I like Tennis, but I don't take a massive interest in it and I don't follow it that much, I enjoy watching it but if I went a year without I probably wouldn't be bothered. For a long while now Murray has received far too much hype and it's really annoying. It's always the same old excuses, he was unlucky, his time will come, he's still young etc.

Murray is now 4 months shy of his 23rd birthday. When Nadal was the same age he'd won 6 Grand Slams, when Federer was that age he'd just won his second and would win a further two that calendar year. Last September Del Potro wasn't quite 21 when he won the US Open. These excuses shouldn't be valid anymore. If he's as good as people say he his then he should be delivering. Reaching the final of a GS is good, but losing in straight sets shows he's still not good enough when it matters.

Agreed

I hold a British passport but in F1 I support Ferrari and cheer for any driver that drives for Ferrari so I don't go for nationalities in sport and don't feel guilty about the fact I was cheering on Federer today

There are a lot of British sportsmen who have come across as not particularly likeable such as Lewis Hamilton, Andy Murray, Nick Faldo, Chris Eubank, Nassem Hamed, Alan Shearer for instance so I don't and haven't felt duty bound to cheer for them

Two decent quality finals, I was rooting for Henin in the women's final but Serena really deserved it and it was nice to see her so happy :P. I didn't mind who won the men's final, I was hoping that Murray would at least win one set to avoid being 0-6 in Grand Slam finals but ah well, he'll have other chances :P.

I don't think Murray is going to have long to win a major if he looks behind him already at the phe players coming through.

Better than Henman, but the same old story I fear :(

And nothing wrong with liking Federer either, the man is superb!

Murray played really well in the final it's just he came up against an in form Federer in the final (Federer himself even stated that he thinks his win in the final was done by plying his best EVER). And people saying that Murray is over hyped has quite tickled me. I'm sure that he will be in at least 1 more grand slam final this year.

And in reply to Matts comment I think it's Nadal who needs to look out for the youngsters behind him as I don't see him being in the Top flight for little more than 3 more years unless he changes his game almost completely. Besides this generation of upcoming male youngsters don't seem to have as much hype as the last so I can see maybe only 1 or 2 of them making it Top 20 (Tomic for definite).

I can see Federer winning his 17th grand slam title at the French Open and maybe get his 20th in the next couple of years. I predict someone else to win Wimbledon and I'd back Murray for the US Open.

I have to say i'm glad Henin didn't win on Saturday as it would make a mockery out of the womens game. Although she should end up winning the French. I'd love Williams V Williams and Henin V Clijsters as the semi final line up for Wimbledon with either Clijsters or Henin fining in the final. And I think Azarenka could have a good shot at the US Open. I can see Laura Robson getting to the 3rd Round at Wimbledon this year also.

I think Murray could sneak a Slam but he'd have to have a bit of luck on his side IMO. Right now he is simply way too passive. I also have doubts about his mental strength. I still haven't seen any proof that he has the head to win majors. Nadal and Federer both have that, and del Potro is showing signs that he has it too - but still early days for him yet. Right now I'm not convinced that Murray has "it", so I just can't imagine him beating one of those three in the latter rounds of a Slam, which he'll probably have to do if he wants to win one.

Though, in response to the argument above, Federer is probably way more arrogant than Murray IMO. Though at least Federer has a reason to be, I suppose. It's probably the only thing that stops me from liking him. -_-

Hardly paid much attention to the women's tournament this year. Terrible Slam for the players I like on that side, what with Maria going out first round and Vika's QF heartbreak (), and it ends with two of my least favourite players playing in the final. :heehee:
