March 17, 200619 yr Author #100 LETHAL WEAPON (1987) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/1711-large.jpg Tagline: Two Cops. Glover carries a weapon..... Gibson is one. He's the only L.A cop registered as a Lethal Weapon Plot Outline: A veteran detective is partnered with a young detective with a suicidal death wish. Bringing up the rear is the best goddamn buddy cop movie ever. Gibson and Glover were awesome together in this, and even though the sequels gradually dminished the impact of this original, it stands out as one of the best in the action/comedy genre. March 17, 200619 yr Author #99 KIDS (1995) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/B00005B96G.jpg Plot Outline: An amoral, HIV-positive skateboarder sets out to deflower as many virgins as possible while a local girl who contracted his disease tries to save his next target from her same fate. Very disturbing and a real eye opener. Director Larry Clark gave the movie it's really gritty, realistic style by only hiring 3 real actors, with the rest being non-actors who were pretty much playing themselves and improvising their dialogue. Frank, unsettling and uncompromising, but unmissable and unforgettable. It also introduced me to one of the greatest indie actresses ever, Chloe Sevigny.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #98 MURIEL'S WEDDING (1995) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/B00004CXPV.jpg Tagline: She's not just getting married, she's getting even. Plot Summary: Muriel finds life in Porpoise Spit, Australia dull and spends her days alone in her room listening to Abba music and dreaming of her wedding day.. This is often described as a bittersweet comedy, but if you think about it, it's actually really depressing and upsetting. Perhaps that's what they meant.. It's laugh out loud hilarious in places, and really sad in others (my heart just sinks everytime Muriel's mother appears). This was the film that introduced to me to the incredible talents of both Toni Colette and Rachel Griffiths, who have gone on to even greater roles.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #97 THE LOST BOYS (1987) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/Lost-Boys-BQ.jpg Tagline: Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire. Plot Outline: After moving to a new town, two brothers are convinced that the area is frequented by vampires Okay, so this movie is little more than an extended music video with some funny dialgoue, but it's one of my all time favourites from childhood, the soundtrack rocked, and it was cool as ****. The two Corey's were the hottest property in Hollywood at the time, though it wasn't too long before they pissed it all away with endless rink and drugs binges. Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Diane Weist were also standouts in this movie. Oh, and Jamie Gertx was HOT!
March 17, 200619 yr Author You're back!!! :D Yes, yes i am.. ;) I'm guessing you went by another name elsewhere?
March 17, 200619 yr Author #96 BEAUTIFUL GIRLS (1996) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/Beautiful_Girls.jpg Tagline: good times never seemed so good Plot Outline: A piano player at a crossroads in his life returns home to his friends and their own problems with life and love. This one is a fantastically written character peice, with top notch performances from all in the stellar cast including Uma Thurman, Timothy Hutton, Matt Dillon, Rosie O'Donnell, Martha Plimpton and Michael Rappaport. The standout of the entire movie was the then teenage Natalie Portman, who had also appeared in "Leon" at around the same time. She showed here that she was going to be an acting force to be reckoned with in the future, and already has gone on to greater things.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #95 FLATLINERS (1990) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/flatliners_1024x768.jpg Tagline: Some lines shouldn't be crossed. Plot Outline: Medical students bring themselves near death; their experiment begins to go awry. This was just a cool premise, and a genuinely creepy psychological thriller. Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts were great in this one. Edited March 17, 200619 yr by J Man
March 17, 200619 yr Author #94 REBECCA (1940) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/p01.jpg Tagline: The shadow of this woman darkened their love. Plot Outline: When a naive young woman marries a rich widower, they settle in his gigantic mansion, where she finds the memory of the first wife maintaining a grip on her husband and the servants The first of a few from the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. No matter how much time passes, his movies never lose their effect. Still as intense, suspenseful and compelling as I'm sure it was when it was first relaeased, this is well eorth a look for those who haven't seen it. Housekeeper Mrs Danvers is well creepy.
March 17, 200619 yr Author Wow, cheers for this Johnny, its going to be a good read :) Not a problem, hope you enjoy.. :)
March 17, 200619 yr Author #93 TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/t2-p.gif Tagline: Ten Years Ago. The Machines Who Rule The Future Sent An Unstoppable Terminator To Assassinate The Yet Unborn John Connor. They Failed. In 1991. The Machines Will Try Again. Plot Outline: A shape-shifting cyborg is sent back from the future to kill John Connor before he can grow up to lead the resistance; a protector is sent, too. Are rare example of a sequel that surpasses the original, this is a great thrill ride throughout. Arnie is perfectly cast in this.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #92 THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/empirestrikesback_old.jpg Tagline: The Adventure Continues... Plot Outline: While Luke takes advanced Jedi training from Yoda, his friends are relentlessly pursued by Darth Vader as part of his plan to capture Luke. Forget the woeful hammy-acted and over-CGIed brainless recent installments in the franchise, the original trilogy is where it's at. These movies kicked ass, and this was my favourite of the bunch. I tend to have a preference for the darker aspects in storytelling, and things don't get much darker in trilogies than they do here. With a jawdropping cliffhanger that kept audiences waiting for 3 years for a resolution, this was George Lucas at his very finest. It's also the only one of the six movies to make the cut in my countdown.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #91 CHOCOLAT (2000) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/B00005K3OT.jpg Tagline: One Taste Is All It Takes Plot Outline: A woman and her daughter open a chocolate shop in a small French village that shakes up the rigid morality of the community. This is such a simplistic yet magical film, with huge amounts of gallic charm. Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp are dependably brilliant in this, with a great supporting cast.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #90 AIRPLANE! (1980) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/B00004Y62W.jpg Tagline: What's slower than a speeding bullet, and able to hit tall buildings at a single bound? Plot Outline: An airplane crew takes ill. Surely the only person capable of landing the plane is an ex-pilot afraid to fly. But don't call him Shirley. The jokes in this one come so thick and fast, that you cannot help pissing yourself practically every couple of minutes. Leslie Neilson proved he had a gift for comedy in this movie, and has never looked back since.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #89 THE WARRIORS (1979) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/B000059H1Z.jpg Tagline: They are 100,000 strong. Plot Outline: A gang called The Warriors are framed for killing a gang leader trying to unite all the gangs in the area. With other gangs gunning for them they must get back to the home turf of Coney Island... Alive. This movie just kicks ass - totally ****ing breathtaking, practically every moment is edge of the seat action as The Warriors fight for survival.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #88 GREASE (1978) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/olivianewton-john-grease.jpg Tagline: Grease is the word Plot Outline: Good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fell in love over the summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they're now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance? The only musical in the countdown, this one is an evergreen classic. The fact that it was made in the 70s and set in the 50s perhaps gives it that timeless quality, but this one withstands repeated viewings and always remains a gem. A true classic.
March 17, 200619 yr Author #87 REAR WINDOW (1954) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Johnny123/RearWindowfront.jpg Tagline: See It! - If your nerves can stand it. Plot Outline: A wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbours from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder. Another true edge of the seat classic from Hitchcock, this one sees Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly as their finest. It's so iconic that it's even been parodied in The Simpsons.
