I like the fact that as a professional, he knows his own range and what suits it.

A tongue twisting aria with no chance to show his range and no low bass notes and nowhere to breathe and which in addition, is the only aria on the show which is completely unfamiliar, puts him at a distinct disadvantage. Why should he meekly just accept it? He offered them an alternative from the Magic Flute which was extremely challenging too - an aria of the Queen of the Night's enemy Sorastro. he asked them for their honest opinion as to which was more suitable. They would not say theirs was, just that they had already chosen it for him. Why not? I

But everyone else have had no problems with the aria's they were given, they just got on with no matter how difficult they were. He just took the attitude of it's too hard, sod it, and went off to do his own thing. You can guarantee a lot of the audience won't have a clue if Darius had gone wrong because it's a tongue twister becuase he owns the stage with his performing skills.

Sorry, but I'm siding with Darius all the way with this.

Having appeared on Popstars: The Rival & Pop Idol, I think he is a smart enough cookie to know when he plays up looking like a diva it makes him look like an a-hole; but it was pretty clear that he was getting a shafting with the song he was asked to perform as he rightly in my view (and much more importantly the opinion of British opera singer Russell Watson this morning on Radio 5 Live who praised him) knew he was being given a song that was too technically difficult that he would come across as not very good because it is clear that the show producers did not want him to reach the final last night, as ITV clearly wanted a Kym v Bernie final next week.

Darius learned how manipulative these shows were on Popstars and he challenged Simon Cowell and stopped him using song choice to shaft him in the Contestant's Choice round of Pop Idol.

Unfortunately the next round was Judges' Choice and he got Dancing In The Moonlight, a group song, and Make It Easy On Yourself, the latter of which had virtually no appeal to anyone under pension age. He was voted out.

Why has Katherine Jenkins only commented two times on darius's performances out of five shows? Does that seem fair?

I think I should point out here that Don Giovanni is one of the most insincere characters in opera - he is the worst kind of chauvinistic womaniser.

I don't understand how people on here can call reality talent show contestants puppets and complain about manipulation all the time and then baulk when someone refuses to be anyone's puppet and takes a stand, knowing that they'll use the VT footage to discredit him.

While I agree Darius seems to have been given dodgy arias not suiting his vocal range, he was never going to make the Pop Idol final whatever he sang as the top 2 was the same every round throughout the competition. The only rigging that went on was the choice of winner's single which was never in a million years picked with Will or Darius in mind.

Anyone know the viewing figures for Popstar to Operastar? Can't imagine too many votes are being polled with it being a bit of a niche nmarket & so little time given to vote.

Does anyone know if this is repeated or has a link to Meatloaf's performance? Need to show the rest of the family how bloody awful it was.

Not sure whether to thank you. Even worse than I remembered. :o :arrr:

dear lord, Meatloaf make it stop.

Have to agree, both Russell watson and Lesley Garrett have commented on the choices of aria for Darius. and have praised him.

I suspect he felt he had been given another aria to stitch him up and wanted to make that fact known, he still went with it, and performed it well.

next week duets with the mentor and hopefully a decent solo -

I didn't enjoy that Meat Loaf performance with that lady at all! :(

The only performance (by a non-contestant) that I have enjoyed on there is Katherine Jenkins. That was beautiful

The point is Darius was being shafted before the round he actually went out in, because SC had a dream team of Gareth and Zoe and Darius was in the way. He went on to develop his partnership of G&Z for a bit anyway during the PI tour, downgrading Darius to less time on stage than even the guy who went out 10th and then brought Zoe into a tour with Will and Gareth.

If you've had that experience and you see it happening again and put up with it, thinking it can't go on, there's a point where anyone will say enough is enough! Darius reached that point last week.

I beleive the voting for PI had Darius third most of the time, if not all the time, I have them somewhere, but that was ten years ago...but the way the producers can sway votes is quite easy, and they do it all the time, in all these shows.song choice, VT footage shown and the panels comments, even tabloid and TV.

LLB making those comments for Darius last week, was pointedly him trying to @point the voters in the right way@ he said that was what they would do on the night, the comments from Rolando were spot on and fair, Darius did manage to sing it ALL, he is a good actor and did a performance,he only made one mistake at the end, and he managed to keep his Opera voice (singing so fast and wordy a piece is extremely difficult) Meatloaf again gave a positive comment

I do wonder why Katherine doesnt commnet much, then again the way she is usually looking, listening to comments to the others, etc points to the fact she rather likes Darius' performances. I have enough satisfaction having heard her tell Darius his voice was @lovely@ never thought I'd see the day LOL

just looking forward to the duets now, I am sure that will mean the most to Darius

So now it's

Darius V hopping mad mentors, angry producers who worked so hard to get a different finalist, the mighty Nolans machine and worst of all the Loose Women juggernaut which rolled right over everyone at the NTAs. And the lovely Laurence!

The producers and mentors had better play a straight bat this week and show some equality of opportunity or they might find themselves with a winner but no show.

There's no way that Bernie won't win. She's miles better than Darius, who is very good, don't get me wrong, but she's still better than him by a long shot.

It's been a good-spirited competition so I'm sure they'll be happy for each other, whoever wins. Best of luck to them both.

All of the contestants have performed brilliantly, but the best, and most consistent performer, has been Bernie and for that reason I very much hope she goes on to win next week.

It's repeated on Wednesday on ITV2 just before American Idol

Some people say they don't remember Marcella Detroit

Here she is as part of Shakespears Sister along with (ex-Bananarama member Siobahn Fahey)

This was the biggest hit STAY which stayed at #1 for 8 weeks in 1992 - they had 10 hits btween 1990 & 1996

1st: Darius Campbell

2nd: Bernie Nolan

Joint 3rd: Kym Marsh & Marcella Detroit

4th: Danny Jones

5th: Jimmy Osmond

6th: Vanessa White

7th: Alex James

Well Darius had to win a reality tv show eventually I guess, Even though Bernie and Marcella were FAR superior to him!
I didnt watch this the whole time but from the bits i saw Marcella seemed the best in my opinion, im sure darius will release some opera style album now.
