Cue: The day after the nominations are announced Simon Cowell slams the BRIT awards as a joke not representing the British public true tastes due to the snubbing of Susan Boyle & Leona Lewis; and the minimal amount of nominations for Alexandra Burke & Cheryl Cole.

Morgan: 'Boyle award snub is ridiculous'

Wednesday, January 20 2010, 11:39 GMT

Digitalspy.co.uk By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

Piers Morgan has criticised the decision to leave Susan Boyle off this year's Brit Award shortlist.

The Scottish singer has failed to pick up a single nomination for next month's ceremony, despite the fact that her debut album I Dreamed A Dream was the biggest-selling LP of 2009.

Morgan, who befriended Boyle when she starred on Britain's Got Talent, has now told the Daily Record: "The idea that we cannot find room in the Brits for Susan Boyle is absolutely ridiculous.

"I've been invited to the Brits and I can't wait to go there and hear all these acts that are apparently better than Susan. Most of them are a bunch of lip-syncing, useless no-hopers."

The Brit Awards will take place at London's Earls Court on February 16.

Well of course Piers is right as ever isn't he; I mean when I listen to Female nominees Florence + The Machine; Bat For Lashes & Lily Allen I don't think what great individual artists with original songs do you? Fukking Simon Cowell tosser!

I don't get your argument about sales ... I don't think the Brits go on sales ... if they did ... it would be a lot clearer cut. The Brits panel award on a whim.

Norma

Of course it's based on sales. Ok not wholey how many times do you see a Brit nominee who hasn't had a really successful year? It's very rare. There's maybe about 5 nominations from this year. If it wasn't based on sales and success it would surely be a hell of a lot more. Why have Arctic Monkeys (previously very successful at the Brits) been snubbed this year? It's certainly not because the material is worse, but because they've sold disappointingly compared to their previous albums.

If Little Boots and La Roux's swapped sales, chart positions and success in 2009 I'm pretty sure that Little Boots would be nominated for Best Female instead.

Couldn't agree more... Absolutely unreal that the SH!TS actually seems to believe that ANY of this lot should be considered the "best" albums of the past 30 years.... Clueless morons, what a totally "middle-aged" list that is, fukkin' PATHETIC..... No Massive Attack, No Tricky, No Prodigy, No Radiohead, No Jarvis/Pulp, No Smiths/Morrissey, No Cure, No New Order/Joy Division, No Stone Roses, No Happy Mondays, No Manics, No Siouxsie.....

THEY ARE HAVING A FUKKIN' LAUGH!!!!! <_<

This would be MY list.....

Massive Attack - Blue Lines

The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation

New Order - Substance 1987

Stone Roses - Stone Roses

Radiohead - The Bends

The Cure - Disintegration

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

Pulp - Different Class

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible

Tricky - Maxinquaye

Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole

Siouxsie and the Banshees - JuJu

Portishead - Dummy

Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain

Happy Mondays - Pills N Thrills N Bellyaches

Muse - Absolution

Just a BIT better than the fatuous, boring old cack the SH!TS is palming off on us....

You can only have 10, but my 10 British albums of the last 30 years would be (excluding me duplicating one or two (Smiths, Manics, Goldfrapp, Pulp, Joy Division) of your brilliant list) off the top of my head:

Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love

Portishead - Third

Radiohead - OK Computer

Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden

XTC - Skylarking

Depeche Mode - Violator

Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Suede - Dog Man Star

Primal Scream - Screamadelica

Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space

Pixie Lott is no where near the best selling female in terms of singles and albums, both her No 1's have sold less than Cheryl and Alex with just 1 song each.I knew the BRITS would yet again ignore urban acts it is a farce that The Noisettes, Tinchy, Taio Cruz, Jay Sean and worse still Beyonce (please do not mention that album rubbsih) have been left out.I suppose if your face does not fit it is bring on the MOBO's
Alright maybe it wasn't the most memorable performance of the last 30 years, but I don't get how their performance was awful? It was 100% live, perfectly in tune, cabaret-styled, and very much acclaimed by the press.

Maybe they made this list based on the echo that the performances had in the press. I remember the Girls Aloud performance was all over the papers the day after the Brits, mainly due to their sexy clothes, but as well due to the fact they won a Brit and the symbol of finally getting some recognition after 7 years. I think that's why.

The performance was tacky and the whole feathers and pretending they were naked thing was RIDICULOUS and did not work out well. Their vocals were OK, nothing spectacular and of course it had repercussion the next day (tabloids have always loved Girls Aloud and Cheryl Cole) but so what? It wasn't iconic nor memorable and it didn't even boosted the singles sales much. Use Somebody not only was a good performance, it made the single go to number 1.

I think I'll just skip the show this year, it gets a bit crappier with every passing year. And I agree that the Spice Girls should get the award for their performance, it was memorable, iconic and was the perfect snapshot of a pop phenomenon at their peak.

Brits Album of 30 Years

None of them. What a dire selection, certainly not the best representation of 30 years worth of British music!!

oooh is everyone choosing the best British albums of the past 30 years now? I'll have to rack my brains together for my personal favourites.
I really hope Dire Straits win best album..the irony would be lost on so many people but I would relish it.
Alright maybe it wasn't the most memorable performance of the last 30 years, but I don't get how their performance was awful? It was 100% live, perfectly in tune, cabaret-styled, and very much acclaimed by the press.
Perfectly in tune? Were you watching the same Brits show as I was?

Both me and the rest of my family were disappointed in them. (Especially Cheryl's parts!) I've seen them live in concert before so I was looking forward to their performance, they let me down BIG time vocally.

Of course it's based on sales. Ok not wholey how many times do you see a Brit nominee who hasn't had a really successful year?

I'm sorry but I disagree. I have to take 2008 when FWN won best album. If the Best British Album had have been awarded on criteria of sales ... then Mika's Life In Cartoon Motion would have won, Leona Lewis would have been awarded second place for Spirit and Take That third for Beautiful World. FWN would have been fourth ahead only of the fifth nomination - Mark Ronson's Version.

So so ... the Best Album award is not based on sales. They base the winner on who the panel thinks will make them look cool that year. Cool this year may just be JLS ... you never can tell.

JLS will not be included in the "Cool" category Norma :heehee: Surely it'll go to Florence?

I was trying to be ironic ... but the way these nominations have panned out ... I could believe anything happening now. The only categories they've got the nominations right in are the International and the Females categories (with the exception of the Beyonce error.) The rest are rubbish.

I'm just keeping fingers crossed that MJ's Earthsong wins this year's 'novelty' category. Not that I want to listen to Jacko ... I just want another peek at Jarvis's arse!

Morgan: 'Boyle award snub is ridiculous'

Well, you know my feelings on Lily Allen, but yeah, the overall point is valid... Susan Boyle is just utterly MAWKISH.... She's a hard-luck story who got lucky, I dont credit her at all with her actual output, because I very much doubt she had any actual creative input into it.... To be considered an "artist" takes more than just possessing a technical voice....

Piers is indeed a Cowell ass-licker....

If Little Boots and La Roux's swapped sales, chart positions and success in 2009 I'm pretty sure that Little Boots would be nominated for Best Female instead.

This is probably true, because let's face it in terms of the MUSIC, Little Boots absolutely pishes all over La Roux.... But of course neither are as good as Client anyway......

Mind you, since when has the SH!TS really been much about the actual music anyway....?
