January 19, 201015 yr LOL. Are you guys serious with wanting "The Promise" to win best performance in Brits history? It was a rubbish perf. Anyway, I wish the Spice Girls would win. It was the most epic Brits performance ever, one of the few that had repercussion all around the globe (also: Geri Union Jack dress). But yes, I don't think it'll win although it definitely deserves...
January 19, 201015 yr Does anyone know the situation with the Best British single, do they narrow it to just five songs and all 5 songs are performed at the ceremony.
January 19, 201015 yr Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head Dido - No Angel Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms Duffy - Rockferry Keane - Hopes & Fears Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory Phil Collins - No Jacket Required Sade - Diamond Life The Verve - Urban Hymns Travis - The Man Who This list is a joke. I assume the panel are restricted to albums that actually won best British album at some point which just goes to show how conservative the whole thing is. Amazingly the albums that influenced Travis, Keane and Coldplay have been ignored - namely OK Computer and The Bends. Can't they get anything right? And only a loon would say that Rockferry is better than Back to Black.... It would have been nice to see some albums that sold less than a million on the list... Can someone calculate the average sales of the list? Edited January 19, 201015 yr by tonyttt31

Amazingly the albums that influenced Travis, Keane and Coldplay have been ignored - namely OK Computer and The Bends. Your assumption is correct. I'm surprised AM's FWN isn't there if I'm honest ... I'd rather have it over any of this lot. In the absence of anything better I'd say The Verve or Oasis should win. To heck with it ... as long as Phil Collins doesn't win ... it'll be a result. You're right though ... the choices are dire! Norma
January 19, 201015 yr Spice Girls should definitely win it, it's like the most iconic performance at the Brits.

January 19, 201015 yr I dont know what you're trying to say. Are you saying that Doves and Friendly Fires are rubbish? Not at all. Far from that. But the BRITS have always awarded sales, you only get a couple of acclaimed nominations each year. Friendly Fires and Doves are (unfortunately) only really in there because no other British bands have sold much...
January 19, 201015 yr Spice Girls should definitely win it, it's like the most iconic performance at the Brits. If you're referring to the 'Best Brits Performance in the 30 Years' I'm pretty certain any act that wins that would be too embarrassed to go up and accept the award wouldn't they. It really is a joke category ... a bit like the category they introduced for the 25 year anniversary (although I must admit that had a bit more credibility than this one). Besides ... if we're talking iconic ... it has to be Michael Jackson with special cameo appearance by Jarvis Cocker ... that gets my vote. Norma

Friendly Fires and Doves are (unfortunately) only really in there because no other British bands have sold much... I don't get your argument about sales ... I don't think the Brits go on sales ... if they did ... it would be a lot clearer cut. The Brits panel award on a whim. Norma
January 20, 201015 yr I don't get your argument about sales ... I don't think the Brits go on sales ... if they did ... it would be a lot clearer cut. The Brits panel award on a whim. Norma they do seem to favour sales though. Just look at the list of albums that have won over the years.....how many have sold less than a million?
January 20, 201015 yr I doubt JLS will win anything. I don't think the panel would pick them among "proper" artists. Edited January 20, 201015 yr by MTV79
January 20, 201015 yr I doubt JLS will win anything. I don't think the panel would pick them among "proper" artists. I did say this at first But now I realise the public vote for British single and Breakthrough- so they could win at least one I dont think they will win british group- if they do, the BRITs will lose a lot of credibility Edited January 20, 201015 yr by chart wizard
January 20, 201015 yr they do seem to favour sales though. Just look at the list of albums that have won over the years.....how many have sold less than a million? But at the time the AM's won their album Brits in 2007 and 2008 - I'm sure both of them were a long way off a million (I'm pretty certain about FWN). Even though I agree ... on quality ... it did deserve it. Which is why I'm certain that 'The Brits' just make the criteria up as they go along now. Norma

But yes, I don't think it'll win although it definitely deserves...Completely agree with everything you have said here. If i'm honest (apart from the last 3 or 4 years) The Spice Girls is the only performance I can remember vividly. It's quite an iconic performance (and yes more to the fact at what Geri was wearing). Girls Aloud's 'The Promise' performance was AWFUL! If they wanted to use one for last year, why not Kings of Leon's 'Use Somebody'? Now that was and EPIC performance. I remember watching it and getting chills and thrills or whatever down my spine.

Couldn't agree more... Absolutely unreal that the SH!TS actually seems to believe that ANY of this lot should be considered the "best" albums of the past 30 years.... Clueless morons, what a totally "middle-aged" list that is, fukkin' PATHETIC..... No Massive Attack, No Tricky, No Prodigy, No Radiohead, No Jarvis/Pulp, No Smiths/Morrissey, No Cure, No New Order/Joy Division, No Stone Roses, No Happy Mondays, No Manics, No Siouxsie..... THEY ARE HAVING A FUKKIN' LAUGH!!!!! <_< This would be MY list..... Massive Attack - Blue Lines The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation New Order - Substance 1987 Stone Roses - Stone Roses Radiohead - The Bends The Cure - Disintegration Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures Pulp - Different Class The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible Tricky - Maxinquaye Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole Siouxsie and the Banshees - JuJu Portishead - Dummy Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain Happy Mondays - Pills N Thrills N Bellyaches Muse - Absolution Just a BIT better than the fatuous, boring old cack the SH!TS is palming off on us....

I remember watching it and getting chills and thrills or whatever down my spine. Alright maybe it wasn't the most memorable performance of the last 30 years, but I don't get how their performance was awful? It was 100% live, perfectly in tune, cabaret-styled, and very much acclaimed by the press. Maybe they made this list based on the echo that the performances had in the press. I remember the Girls Aloud performance was all over the papers the day after the Brits, mainly due to their sexy clothes, but as well due to the fact they won a Brit and the symbol of finally getting some recognition after 7 years. I think that's why.
