January 27, 201015 yr those are just names. In practical terms of creating and performing music Leona is no more self reliant than Florence. There are very few true solo artists that completely perform and produce all their own music. That's not the point - if you perform without anyone else apart from maybe uncredited backing vocals, you're a solo artist.
January 27, 201015 yr That's not the point - if you perform without anyone else apart from maybe uncredited backing vocals, you're a solo artist. you can't tell me what MY point is.
January 27, 201015 yr Florence AND the machine isnt classified as a female, if she wanted to be in this category why add the machine bit just to be 'different' and get attention. I like her dont get me wrong, but shouldnt be classified as a solo female. Florence + The Machine is a solo artist. When she blogs on the F+TM website she always write "thanks for supporting ME since the begining etc etc..." and never mentionned any other member or musician. She has never introduced herself as a band (ie her official press release and biography for example), the musicians on tour change from time to time, etc. The "+ The Machine" is just an artist name, just like Marina and the diamonds, Little boots, Bat for Lashes, etc.
January 27, 201015 yr the list, however, doesn't include breaking any new ground, having a hunger or desire to push her art, being artistically bold, striving to have interesting music. Lyrically her material is devoid of any sort of poetic imagery, social commentary or insight. She hasn't involved any non-mainstream elements to her music, no interesting instruments. Why should she have to "break new ground" where abouts in the requirements to be the Best British Female does it say you have to be groundbreaking. She's extremely talented, and one of the best british artists we've ever had. And do you actually listen to any of her lyrics in Happy? They're beautiful, and she co-wrote that with Ryan Tedder (her being the lead writer). those are just names. In practical terms of creating and performing music Leona is no more self reliant than Florence. There are very few true solo artists that completely perform and produce all their own music. Leona always sings live, and to a very high standard. She has written two albums all by herself (before The X Factor) and co-wrote on Spirit, as well as co-writing the majority of the songs on Echo.
January 27, 201015 yr It may not be in the Brits requirements but it's in mine. Good job you're not on the BRITs panel then!
February 6, 201015 yr Here are the performers on the night: Lady Gaga - ? JLS - Beat Again? Kasabian Dizzee Rascal and Florence & The Machine - Dirtee Love Jay Z Lilly Allen - The Fear? Cheryl Cole - FFTL? Bump.
February 6, 201015 yr They are not allowed to perform their new releases - the Brits are the celebration of music from 2009. Then why did U2 perform 'Get On Your Boots' last year to open the show? NO song is good enough to sell on it's own merits.:rolleyes: I think the rule is that it must of been already released, as opposed to an upcoming release. U2 - 'Get On Your Boots' was released(Monday 16 February 2009) two days before the Brits(on Wednesday 18 February 2009). Thus enabling it to be played. :P
February 6, 201015 yr Do not forget to vote today if you have not already-Florence, Lady Gaga and Alexandra Bad boys. http://www.brits.co.uk/voting
February 6, 201015 yr first elimination is tomorrow then one goes out every day next week, leaving 5 ahead of the final
February 7, 201015 yr Leona Lewis winning a serious award? LOL, what a big joke. She isn't an artist, she's merely a puppet. Yes, of course she 'co-writes' all her songs, with HUGE songwriters who write similar songs to plenty of other acts (and fyi, every single big pop act supposedly write their own songs). Her albums are despised by critics (and don't start with the 'prejudice against pop acts' BS cause Rihanna album, for example, had amazing reviews). Plus, face it: "Echo" was a flop. Yes, it did reasonably well in the UK (not compared to her previous CD) but it flopped everywhere else. The BRITs are rubbish but she doesn't deserve winning it anyway.
February 7, 201015 yr They'll close the voting then it'll reopen a few hours later with one less act. My guess for the top 5 will be (in no order) Cheryl, JLS, Alex, La Roux and either Lilly Allen or Pixie Lott
February 7, 201015 yr oh andre, give it a rest. Leona is a great artist and echo hasnt flopped, its hardly begun its been out 2-3 MONTHS! That whole little waffle you just posted makes you look a little pathetic..*rolls eyes* leona to win best female! ps: florence AND THE machine still classified as band/group, she did it so she should face it shes presented herself WITH something else (a machine :S). Not the same as little boots or bat for lashes as they dont have a 'AND' that is the key word here, making her not a SOLO artist. Edited February 7, 201015 yr by LL1
February 7, 201015 yr Author I think the top 5 will be JLS, Cheryl Cole, La Roux, Alexandra Burke and Pixie Lott I think Joe or Alesha Dixon will be eliminated today
February 7, 201015 yr I've heard GaGa will perform "Telephone" with Beyonce :o Still a rumour, hasn't been confirmed, as Beyoncé apparently has a concert in Chile on that day. But I do hope it's true
