February 2, 201015 yr Quelled surprise it meets expectations, for it is absolutely atrocious. I hope people get up off their backsides and donate directly to Hati, instead of being spoon fed this cringe worthy claptrap.
February 2, 201015 yr Unless Ive gone deaf, That song didnt actually sound that bad! :o Cheesy- yes very, but its much better than the monstrosities that were Hero, You Are Not Alone and Hallelujah :puke:- no key change and few choir use! I hope it sells well, but I wont be buying it, I will donate in other ways
February 2, 201015 yr Didn't like it at all I'm afraid. Too many singers singing one line each just made it sound disjointed and a total mess. Agree that they could have halved the number of artists and had them singing a verse or chorus each. Can see it being number 1 for just 2 weeks.
February 2, 201015 yr Wish mariah carey wasnt in it, ergh, her voice grains on me. Its a bit of a mess tbh, to many people!
February 2, 201015 yr I liked it but I agree that they needed less people on it.. Its hard to tell who is singing what
February 2, 201015 yr I hated it. Couldn't bear to listen to it all, but the beginning just drones on and on, far too slow :( But I was never the biggest fan of the original, and I think it is completely the wrong song choice for the cause "Stranded" for the win
February 2, 201015 yr It's not awful, or amazing ... it's just really really boring?! :/ Didn't expect much though. 'Stranded' is about a million times better imo.
February 2, 201015 yr Suprise suprise....dull, boring, murder of a classic etc etc. Exactly what everyone was expecting then :) The presnece of Mika is a bit strange aswell tbh, the others are all either Simon Cowell related or relatively huge in some way or other but Mika? Anyway, Susan Boyle sounds wonderful on it....err...yeah...think thats it for the positives. Having already contributed to Haiti I certainly wont be buying this.
February 2, 201015 yr Just listened to this on YouTube. It's better than I expected but that really doesn't say much. I can only agree with other comments that the whole one line per artist doesn't quite work. Mariah's vocal gymnastics are uncalled for. Joe's "hold on, hold on, hold on" is hardly a Bono "well tonight thank God its them instead of you" moment. Oh, and the adlibs at the end are also uncalled for. Of course this wasn't intended on being better than the R.E.M. original but having heard this, it's not as bad as I imagined it to be. It is messy, some bits aren't required but overall not the worst of efforts. 6/10 for me (I'll probably read this in a week and laugh at how generous I was being!!! ).
February 2, 201015 yr This is just awful, just as bad as the origional can't stand the song. Thank goodness I'm not the only one (that thinks the song itself is a stinker!) One of the most dreary, miserable, tuneless pieces of rubbish I've ever heard. So no real harm done in this average cover. Norma
February 2, 201015 yr I wonder how Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine) must be feeling tonight, seeing that she seemingly volunteered early, added her part then pulled out after finding out zero other indie/alternative acts were included on the track; only to get an unneccessary and uncalled for dig from Simon Cowell's glamour BGT puppet Amanda Holden on the Alan Titchmarsh show tonight "at an unnamed act who has a number of BRIT nominations who is less talented and deserving than Susan Boyle and too precious to appear on the record" That petulant outburst tonight and the lack of invites to major UK pop acts such as the Sugababes, McFly, Pixie Lott, the Saturdays, N-Dubz; etc does little to dispel my view this track is firstly and foremost a Simon Cowell propaganda effort and ego trip. PS. If people really like the original song then you might want to know that on iTunes, etc REM & their record company Warners have said all artist, songwriting, publishing & record company royalties for the track will go to the Haiti charity if bought by the end of March 2010.

If the first then I congratulate her for her solidarity, if the latter ... then she's just being a bit silly really as well as being a bit of a snob! Personally I'd have pulled out because the song is bloody awful. Norma Edited February 2, 201015 yr by Norma_Snockers
February 2, 201015 yr You don't pull out of a charity record at the last minute, and no valid reason can be good enough for that. What, her indie friends weren't invited, and then? We don't even know who was invited and who wasn't anyway, many might have said no from the begining. At the end of the day, the people on the tracks are among the most popular acts of the moment in the UK, and stop claiming Simon only invited his friends. Florence was invited and she isn't his "friend" whatsoever, and there must be many others we haven't heard about because they said no from the begining. We've known about Florence cause she initially said yes, if she had said no we probably wouldn't have heard about her, and that must be the case of many other 'indie' acts. And TIP, are you serious about N-Dubz, The Saturdays, The Sugababes and Pixie?? Most people on the record are a hell of a lot more successful than them. It's like Band Aid 2000, it was just some of the most successful acts of the moment, they couldn't have EVERYBODY on it. For example Girls Aloud weren't on that, I'm not gonna make a big deal of it.
February 2, 201015 yr Speaking of Girls Aloud (sorry about this but im just suprised no one else has picked up on it) but where are the other 4? I know they're on hiatus and everything but I just found it a bit strange that Cheryl's the only one on there...
