May 5, 201015 yr I just don't think it's fair how lots of other countries get established (and usually successful throughout Europe) artists but we get some random guy off a talent show with a terrible song. Lena (Germany's entry) seems to have been successful enough in her short career. I think we should enter someone who is flying high in our (and also preferably European) charts next year to maybe try and have a better chance
May 5, 201015 yr It's a good idea Gagafan, but the BBC is still stuck in the mindset that a Eurovision song and entrant is different from a normal song and singer, but really what it should be is the best of both. And like it or not, there are still very few succesful UK singers that want to do Eurovision :( If I was a singer, I'd put it in my contract "artist will be expected to enter Eurovision and represent the UK during promotion of his second album"

Plus BBC will be desperate for more money/viewers for the selection show
May 5, 201015 yr To be honest I don't care about whether we have an established artist or not. We've seen it go horribly wrong in the past with other countries having enourmous backlashes when their entry hasn't done well. As we all know, fame is not correlated to talent; we'd have been hard pushed to find somebody who did a better job than Jade, and Josh has a great voice and he's very natural when it comes to performing and being interviewed. I think our main problem is how the BBC handles the selection in general, as well as the songs themselves. Indeed, it could be said that the BBC's quest to find a big name songwriter this year is the main reason everyone is so pesimistic about our chances!
May 6, 201015 yr Well folks it could be worse.... 8kH1-K0yBNU This the version that apparently could have guaranteed us a better placing than Josh will.
May 6, 201015 yr That is absolutely horrible. Where on earth is that from? Sounds like the background music to a track on Mario Kart

Sounds like the background music to a track on Mario Kart  The same person / people who were behind "Time Stood Still" the entry that the UK should have chosen. This, according to the video description, is the arrangement that would actually give us a chance. Out of the two people to comment, I'm pretty sure one of them is definitely involved with the person who made the song.

That would explain it  They need to quit while they're ahead, the arrangement is awful and sounds even more dated than Josh's arrangement -_-
May 7, 201015 yr Anyone got any idea to how long the official video has been available? I've just noticed it on the BBC website :o Right here
May 7, 201015 yr Cheap, cheesy and rather uneventful as expected, can't see the music channels giving this much airplay, and I definitely recall seeing Jade's video on the TV a fair few times last year. Rewind back to 2006 and Daz's video was ALL over the place, shame he was 4 years ahead of his time because in the chav pop friendly charts of 2010, he could have done a lot better than just #8.
May 7, 201015 yr Pete can't even be bothered to make an appearance playing the piano :( At least Jade's video looked like it had some money spent, with the different outfits, and the limo she steps out of at the start and everything
May 7, 201015 yr Yes, the video is a bore-fest and cheap. But, given the state of Josh's dancing, the only thing worse than this would be him actually DOING anything. Although I have to grudgingly admit, the more I hear the song, the less I hate it. But that doesn't mean I don't think it's dated crap that's gonna (rightfully) bomb.
May 7, 201015 yr I was kind of expecting it to look like that if I'm honest. There's not much more you can do in a video for a song like that
May 7, 201015 yr I was kind of expecting it to look like that if I'm honest. There's not much more you can do in a video for a song like that  I wouldn't say that. Hera's video means absolutely nothing with regard to the song but it didn't stop her making an effort :heehee: If I was Josh's manager, I would have gone the whole hog and just filmed it in Butlins with the redcoats, or better still with cameos from famous PWL acts like Sonia, Rick Astley and members of Steps :w00t:

I wouldn't be so sure about that...remember, most if not all of the successful "chav pop" rappers are a good 20 years younger than Daz.
May 7, 201015 yr I wouldn't be so sure about that...remember, most if not all of the successful "chav pop" rappers are a good 20 years younger than Daz. I know what you mean. But the song/idea was definitely ahead of its time and whereas it stuck out like a sore thumb in the 2006 charts, nobody would bat an eyelid at it now - given to somebody younger it could easily be a UK #1 now. I maintain that it's still a very strong pop song, it's just that Daz was a bit of an embarrassment.
May 7, 201015 yr The song is cheese. The video is cheese. The constant smiling is cheese. As the lyrics from Fat Les 'Vindaloo' say "can I introduce you please to a lump of Cheddar Cheese"

The most bizarre thing about 'Teenage Life' for me anyways was that it sounded better live on Eurovision night (especially the schoolgirl singers) compared to the studio version.

I'd say that'll be the case with Josh, who is a very competant singer, but for some reason sounds like a robot on the final studio version.
