Haiti single Everybody Hurts due out on 7 February

BBC

Everybody Hurts, the all-star single recorded to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake, will be released on 7 February, it has been confirmed.

Parts of the song were recorded in London on Tuesday, while artists including Robbie Williams put down their vocals in Los Angeles.

The song was originally a 1993 hit for US band REM.

The final line-up of artists has also been confirmed and includes Michael Buble, Jon Bon Jovi and JLS.

The song will be available for download on 7 February and on CD single the day after.

JLS singer Ortise Williams, who lost relatives in the 12 January earthquake, said: "The tragedy is very close to my heart.

"It's great to be working with such talented artists all pulling together to make a difference through song."

Cheryl Cole said she hoped money raised would "help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives" while Rod Stewart said he could not think of "a more fitting song than Everybody Hurts to convey the unimaginable tragedy that is Haiti".

Simon Cowell, who organised the single, said it had been "an absolute priority for us all".

X Factor winners Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry also appear on the single alongside Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue and Miley Cyrus.

Take That, Mika, James Blunt, James Morrison, Susan Boyle and Westlife complete the line-up.

Half of the single's proceeds will go to the Sun's Helping Haiti fund and the rest will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Well, good for you! have fun!

Well, good for you! have fun!

I've just got to get the photographic angle right! The one where I (like the other 150 minimum people involved in this caper) get my hand positioned over my ear, headphones slightly skew-wif, lip-gloss neatly applied .... and then I'm off! Off to save the world!

What a load of bollocks this whole palaver is? I agree 100% with Rich's comments ... just one giant photo call and Rob AND Take That are just as guilty as the rest of them. As business-people I applaud them for their acumen!

THE Sun's Helping Haiti single was finished late on Saturday night - and it's a cracker.

The Sun

1st February.

Mogul SIMON COWELL spearheaded the globe-spanning project which features 21 of the planet's premier pop stars - and he gave me an exclusive listen early on Sunday.

The likes of KYLIE MINOGUE, MARIAH CAREY, JAMES BLUNT and ALEXANDRA BURKE all donated their time for free to record a cover of REM's moving Everybody Hurts.

And the results are impressive.

The effort has got the support of songwriter MICHAEL STIPE who said: "How could we not say yes to this appeal?

"We're honoured to play even a small role in trying to help."

In the slideshow above I exclusively reveal which lines each of the stars sing.

The ballad begins with a tender couplet from LEONA LEWIS before ROBBIE WILLIAMS brings it to a brilliant close five and a half minutes later.

In between there are contributions from a stellar line-up including ROD STEWART, CHERYL COLE, MIKA, GARY BARLOW and two of the JLS lads.

The recording was overseen by super-producer STEVE ROBSON, who has worked with TAKE THAT, and the project was pulled together in little over a week.

It is released next Sunday and I hope to see it at the upper end of the charts the following week.

Recording sessions took place last week in both London and Los Angeles.

Hairy angel SUSAN BOYLE, X Factor winner JOE McELDERRY, JAMES MORRISON and more laid down their vocals in England, while, in LA, Take That, Robbie and MILEY CYRUS recorded their lines.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has waived VAT on the single.

And Brit Awards bosses are discussing the song featuring in the February 16 bash in London.

Pre-order the Haiti single now from HMV by clicking on this link

The song is available to download next Sunday and in the shops the day after.

The track will get its debut airing on radio breakfast shows nationwide tomorrow from 8am.

According to the Sun's slideshow, Rob sings the final part of the track along with Kylie.I am looking forward to hearing it, although I hope there is not OTT Cowell choirs and key changes

The final part?

Just means all the daft DJs will talk over him on the radio and fade his part out :arrr:

 that song makes me cry

I suspect it'll make me cry too. Though not in a good way....

Still, it's for a good cause

We get to hear it tomorrow

Cowell charity single to premiere tomorrow

Monday, February 1 2010, 18:49 GMT

By Nick Levine, Music Editor

Simon Cowell's 'Helping Haiti' charity single is to premiere tomorrow, it has been confirmed.

The track, a cover of REM's 'Everybody Hurts', will receive its first radio plays across various UK stations from 8am tomorrow morning.

The single features vocals from a lineup of 21 well-known recording artists, singing in the following order: Leona Lewis, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole, Mika, Michael Bublé, Joe McElderry, Miley Cyrus, James Blunt, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jon Bon Jovi, James Morrison, Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle, Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams.

It will go on sale this Sunday, but is available to pre-order now from Amazon. Proceeds will be divided equally between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and The Sun's 'Helping Haiti' appeal.

They played it on my way home from work. As I expected, I didn't hear Robbie's part. The DJ faded him out and went to an advert about kitchen and bathroom tiles

Surely not :o He sings at 4.57, well over a minute before it ends, although I supose 5.22 is too long for radio. Overall I think it's a bit of a mess tbh. Everybody Hurts is such a timeless classic, and there are just way too many different styles of singing going on for it to work. Lots of warbling too which ruins it further. Bono and Jay Z's song 'Standed' is far superior to this cover version, and I am sure the We Are The World 25 will be even better again. I am sure it will make alot of money for Haiti though which is the main thing. I wont be downloading it though. Donated a few days after it happened and will do so again, but dont see the need to have this in my music collection.

Here is the first promo video where they mix clips of the singers and the effects of the earthquake. Robbie's part is at 4.15 along with the touching part where the young boy was rescued.
