Well having seen all the buzz about this, I finally heard this for the first time today...and I'm completely underwhelmed. What a lot of fuss about such a mediocre track!

Well, when I first started listening to the song, I was concentrating on the saxophone, which is the instinctive things to do I guess. However, I really started loving the song when I focused on the other melodies (I've counted 5 altogether), and the saxophone bit sort of faded into the background. So it took me a few times to like the song properly, but it is possible you'll just never like it. It's very popular though. #1 for a number of weeks in most countries it's been released in, and it's the best-selling song of 2010 so far in some countries.

I think the same.

I can't stand his nerve-grating whine

I'm not keen on that irritating saxophone noise either

It makes my ears bleed :puke2:

C-Listed on Radio 1!

:party2: :cheer: :D

top ten (at least) beckons...thank GOD they're taking notice of foreign language music finally. They would have looked completely ridiculous to ignore the biggest European hit of the year just because it was in French.

I was unconvinced myself the very first time I heard 'Alors On Danse' but after listening to the track several times, it just got better and better. I now rank it as one of my top 10 fave tracks of 2010.

Edit; This thread is 15 pages long already. I wonder how much longer this thread will be when Stromae goes to no. 1 ^_^ :P

See, I did say this would be a huge hit and now there's no reason for it not to be. You only have to see the reaction this has been getting whenever I hear it out anywhere for the past 3-4 months, it's a huge track.

AMAZING :w00t:  I agree with everyone that it's the sax melody you notice first, and at first it doesn't sound so good, but then you realise how many layers it has, and it worms your way into your brain. Right now, this is probably my favourite song of the year.

I don't understand why everyone has to hear it on the radio/TV before getting round to purchasing though, it's been on iTunes for ages. I wish some songs could just bypass the usual routes of promotion and get high enough on the charts on other factors e.g. people hearing it in clubs/on holiday etc...but I suppose a lot of people forget all about it the following day and only recall it long enough to want to download it if it's rammed down their throats 24/7  There are so many examples of songs that go down really well in the clubs that have done nothing in the charts because radio just won't support them and people forget to download them or whatever :(

Completely agree - its run in my personal chart tells a huge story of my love affair with it throughout the course of this year;

41 - first listen - liked it a lot but not enough to have a particularly high debut

39 - Barely grew on me at all

25 - started growing on me loads at this point

Ok, so it's not to everybody's taste, which is understandable, it's not your run of the mill chart dance track, but it never seems to get boring and remains utterly mesmerising, but didn't until about 2 or 3 weeks in to me listening to it

The same applies in my personal chart. In fact 'Alors On Danse' had only peaked at #4 in my Pre-Release chart before I promoted the song to my main chart where it entered at #10. The track progressed 10-05-03-01 where it then stayed for four weeks. 19 weeks on and Stromae doesn't look set to plummet anywhere in my chart.

"alors on dance" ** saxophone **

I smell he's destined to be a 'One Hit Wonder' though. I hope I'm wrong.

A bit like Owl City then but I will just think "one hit wonder, but what a hit it was". :D

Te Quiero is taking off to an extent in France, but hasn't charted anywhere else yet, still most of th world is still on AOD.
It's up to #31 now!!! :o :o And who was underestimating the power of Radio 1? :P See what it can do with the good song which doesn't get ANY support from anywhere else at all.
I have been hearing quite a lot in America :o This song is so amazing. Props for Radio 1 for playlisting it.
God forbid, but this is actually beginning to grow on me :drama: I HATED it for ages but it was just on some random radio station I turned on on Sky and it's becoming strangely infectious :o I'm sure I'll love it before long
Up all the way to #26, and it's on it's way into the Top 20. We're closer than you think, to becoming a SMASH!

Will climb again tomorrow when it's played on the breakfast show again AND Floor Fillers and then obviously should be helped along by club play at the weekend. Then next week it's on the playlist properly and will get played at all sorts of times :D I wonder if it can possibly scrape into the top 40 on Sunday?

Hope it's not too long until the video gets added to music channels!

There are those tracks that go down well in clubs and stuff, but this track is a completely different story altogether whenever I see the reaction to it.

Really? Was it on the radio, or were you hearing it in shops or clubs? It's in the top 1000 on US iTunes, so people must be hearing it somewhere.
