February 2, 201016 yr 76-100 news: SINGLES For the first time to date, there's nothing from the latest episode of Glee in the top 75 - 'Taking Chances' limps to #76. The episode did prompt Beyoncé's Single Ladies back into the top 75 though. As Use Somebody climbs 6 to #82 this week, its 70th week in the top 100 out of 71 weeks of availability, Kings Of Leon achieve the rare feat of having 2 songs in the top 100 at the same time with 70 or more weeks on the chart (Sex On Fire also climbs, this week up 4 to #56 on its 73rd week top 100 out of 73 weeks of availability). Snow Patrol are back at #84 with Just Say Yes. I don't know why. Thanks to Hope For Haiti Now, an old Coldplay album track (A Message from X&Y) has made the top 100 for the first time at #88. With the song it parodies down 2 to #16, this week we see the odd occurence of a song and its parody charting simultaneously. The parody, titled simply 'TiK ToK (Parody)' is up 25 to #90 for The Midnight Beast (featuring St£fan). Owing its success more directly to HFHN, an all star trio of Justin Timberlake, Matt Morris and Charlie Sexton recorded a version of Leonard Cohen's classic Hallelujah, and in making #91 this week becomes the 4,238,679th version to chart. #96 is a re-entry for Chris Brown with Forever. Also owing its success directly to Hope For Haiti Now is Jennifer Hudson's [featuring The Roots] version of The Beatles' Let It Be. It's new at #97. Entering at #99 is Passion Pit with The Reeling, top 100 success that is LONG overdue for the song. They limp through the finish line as the 14th of the 15 'BBC Sound of 2009 Poll' longlist artists to get a top 100 single. Poor old Dan Black is in last place, and looks unlikely to ever finish. Passion Pit's success is owed to a TV advert using the Bubblegum Sci-Fi remix of it. Finally, Tinchy and N-Dubz are back at #100 with Number 1. ALBUMS Not much going on here. Eels crash from #21 to #77 with 'End Times'. One of two new entries in the 76-100 region is Beach House with 'Teen Dream' at #78. I know nothing about this band. Timbaland's Shock Value II, which surprisingly hasn't left the top 100 yet, has finally got itself out of the 91-99 zone, climbing to #83 on the back of the success of the new single If We Ever Meet Again. Muse pass the 75 week mark with Black Holes & Revelations, down 11 to #89. That other new entry is at #90 for Tindersticks with Falling Down A Mountain. I, again, know nothing about this band. Coldplay's Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends also passes the 75 week mark, a non-mover at #92. A pair or re-entries at #98 and #99 for Duffy (Rockferry) and Basshunter (Bass Generation) respectively. And finally, we are left with just a single Michael Jackson album in the top 100. Seems we've finally got over him. Edited February 2, 201016 yr by BrayFish
February 2, 201016 yr I think you missed a couple versions of Hallelujah. And Tindersticks had a few minor hits in the 1990s.
