Congratulations to Lena.

Personally I still don't get the fuss over a track that sounds like an album only track from a Kate Nash; Lily Allen or Lenka album. It is probably my least favourite winner some members on this site persuaded me to put away my cynicism to make me take it seriously again.

But still a fantastic Top 10.

As for Pete Waterman claiming this morning on Radio 5Live that Germany only won because of political/financial reasons - bailing out the Euro currency, and being one of the few countries to afford to host the next contest (yeah right of course that is why people all over voted for the German entry and not because of the song ) - he is heading for a surefire Hate nomination from me next month.

Can we just assassinate Pete Waterman now and be done with?

explain me where? for me germany is the beginning of east europe...

Errrrm...well presumably if you're classing Germany as part of eastern Europe then there are only about five western countries in it? Complete rubbish.

Apologies if this has been stated earlier in the thread or elsewhere but Google predicted the winner.

Wow, although presumably that was updated today, when obviously more people would be talking about Lena than any other...

Yes but she was ahead all week. Searches from a participants home country have been excluded.
Lena's been ahead on that Google thing for months hasn't she?
All of the bordering countries to the east and to the south of Germany are Central Europe. And even more countries to the east that don't border Germany (for example: Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia) are still Central Europe. Therefore Germany is not the beginning of Eastern Europe.

I said for ME germany is the start of east, it depends where you are, if you are in denmark germany is southwest or south from you, dont you guys never had geography in schools? gosh

lol

Europe is complete rubbish my friend ;)

we have israel, azerbaijan and turkey as part of a european contest lol

Is it just me, or is that Google thing using the Slovakia flag for Milan (Serbia)?

Azerbaijan & Turkey are both partly in Europe

And a country doesn't have to be part of Europe to take part, they just need to be an EBU member

Er, OK. By that token France is the start of the East, and by your token EVERYTHING in Eurovision is from the East. Stupid much?

Thats because it's the european broadcasting area which includes the Med and the black sea areas f***wit.

Germany is not Eastern Europe, it may be east of Portugal but there's nothing f***ing west of portugal, the entirety of Europe with the exception of Iceland is east of bloody portugal.

Germany i classed as a West/Central European country. I suggest you get your facts right before posting next time.

Oh and on the subject, Georgia are attempting to become European Union members, as are Turkey

The was a mind set of certain people, before the fall of the Berlin Wall that East Germany was the start of Eastern Europe when you were heading eastwards.
Jennifer Braun - Bee - very pleasant, can't see it doing an awful lot in ESC, reminds me of Missy Higgins actually or a Colbie Caillat song but with a more powerful (note, not better) vocal 8.5/10

Lena - Bee - This song suits her voice a hell of a lot more. I'm not sure if the Eurovision audience would take to her quirky voice but then I think Jennifer has nothing distinct about her and would probably have less of a chance to do well. If Lena sent this it could quite easily return Germany to the top ten in my opinion - great. 9/10

Jennifer Braun - Satellite - ballad alert for song two :drama: she is singing this terribly, not good at all. This would get completely lost in the ballad pack and come last I reckon. 5/10

Lena - Satellite - well it's not a ballad anymore! it's been turned into a jaunty strummer. Much much better but still not as good as Bee, and wouldn't do much in the final, it's not that strong a song. Love the vocals though. 7.5/10

It is a pleasure to read these old comments. :D

wouldn't do much in the final ;)

Yes I know, look how low I rated it as well, considering it's now by some margin my favourite song of the year :drama: I suppose this is what comes from making off the cuff comments before putting things into perspective. I honestly remember thinking it wasn't up to much when I first heard it but when I heard the studio version I loved it, and then it grew more and more. I suppose this initial comment is why I had reservations over it winning yesterday, considering it took so long to grow on so many people, I don't understand how it clicked in such a big way with all of the televoters on what was surely the first listen for most of them :o Unless the song's been so ubiquitous around Europe that a large portion of voters/countries were already aware of it and used to it. I still don't know anyone who found it instantly incredible on the first listen.

I think ubiquity will be wot won it for Germany!

Oh god...I've never listened to the Jennifer Braun of Satellite before! :o It's actually really good! Though obviously not as good as Lena's...
I know there's no way to prove it but I really think Germany would have been mid-table if they'd sent Jennifer Braun singing Satellite. Sounds like they've nicked the production from Delta Goodrem's Lost Without You and it really doesn't work as well as a slower song. Maybe I was a bit harsh giving it 5/10 on first listen but I wouldn't rate it higher than 8/10 now listening to it again.
There's a strong tradition of quirky songs doing well - especially in the 60s and 70s. As soon as I heard Satellite I thought it would do well. But I wasn't confident as I'm usually wrong. My two faves ended up Top 3 this year which is a great result for me - the other being Romania.
