Posted July 6, 200618 yr Get your minds out of the gutter,  I want to know which song or songs, made the most impact on you the first time you heard Will sing them. Did you feel emotional, excited, happy or sad etc. I've picked out one song for now as it means such a lot to me for different reasons, I'll probably add more later on. :D My first song is Leave Right Now- Will had been away for nearly a year and I was worried sick how successful he'd be when he returned with his second album, I'd just got a PC in Sept 2003 and I registered on Devoted and the latest rumoured news was an up coming single and album. :yahoo: A few weeks later someone posted that they had heard Will's new single and that it was a brilliant song and they thought it would be a big hit. A lot of us thought it was a wind up (me included  ) and then a clip of the song was posted up on Will's official site and oh my days, just on the opening line of the song "I'm here just like I said" I was blubbing, and then it just got better and betteras I listened to more of it and that this song was a beautiful simple song, I was sure everyone would love it, wouldn't they? it was October 2003 and Will Young was back! :yahoo:
July 6, 200618 yr Brilliant memories suggy. Your right it's a simple but brilliant song. The public loved it & still do. It's hard to believe that it was still selling over 2 years after it's release. I do hope that this timeless classic will be the song that becomes synomynous with Will. For me it has replaced Evergreen which imo was only saved by Will's awesome vocals. Having said that I love how he ripped it up on the last Arena tour, breathing fresh life into a very mediocre song. Great idea for a thread suggy. Now to think of my first time. Edited July 6, 200618 yr by truly talented
July 6, 200618 yr My very first time was on Pop Idol when he sang Winter Wonderland - that voice drew me in and never let go - the relaxed jazzy rendition of a Christmas song - I fell hook line and sinker. I agree with you Suggy about LRN. When I first heard it I thought - phew thank goodness. When I heard the rest of the album :yahoo: Edited July 6, 200618 yr by munchkin
July 6, 200618 yr Difficult one for me to pin point one song  Will sort of seeped through my skin I think  I was 14 when Pop Idol began and I was hooked on the whole programme from day one I really liked all of them in the beginning, but Will soon made his mark in my heart  His personality and humour shone through week after week and before long I was besotted  When Will sang 'Till you come back to me' in the first week and his voice sort of 'broke', something happened to me   I still get goose bumps up my legs when I watch it  Hated his time away :o I'm ashamed to say I had no confidence in his ability to come back stronger  Little did I know there was a killer single somewhere just waiting for a 'voice' to take it to it's full potential  His LRN performance on Pop Idol 2 was just :o I felt like someone was squeezing my heart
July 6, 200618 yr Hated his time away I'm ashamed to say I had no confidence in his ability to come back stronger I had the words "Keep the Faith" on all my posts - there was so much sadness then. Edited July 6, 200618 yr by munchkin
July 6, 200618 yr The song that did it for me was Ticket to Love sung at Killerton. Will had been a way for a while and I remember reading on the OS about songs that fans were going to sing to Will- they were all very cheesy ( It caused a big argument so never materialsied). I said to my daughter in the car that if Will reminded me of Cliff Richard etc that night then I was off. Wow! That blistering opening to the gig had me hooked- he was back with style. Also he sang Field of Gold that night and I cried.

July 7, 200618 yr It was that first performance of the final 50 that made me sit up & take notice. Here was this rather shy unassuming boy with such an amazing soulful voice. Then there was Sweetest Feeling that blew me away. I remember tuning into our local radio station & the dj had taped it from the show & was raving on about it, urging all his listeners to listen to this amazing talent. Over the years there have been so many brilliant live performances. Among my favs have been his rendition of Blame it On the Sun on DM's show, Fineline from the Mermaid & most recently WAI from the Princes Trust. All which have moved me to tears.

July 7, 200618 yr I had just put the TV on for a BBC1 programme, but got the wrong channel. I was thinking I don't want to watch this c**p, when I was stopped dead in my tracks by this chap in a dodgy jumper singing UYCBTM. :o The rest is history. Isn't it strange how fate works - if I hadn't got the wrong channel that Saturday evening who knows whether I would have "found" Will, as up until then I'd never watched this type of show.
July 7, 200618 yr I actually didn't see his audition, even though I never missed one episode of PI  I must have gone for a pee or somthing ;) The first time I ever saw him was when he sang 'Fastlove' I think he had on an orange t-shirt and that tea cosy hat  I can also remember him singing 'Up on the roof' dressed like a square :P

Mind you he finished like a steam train once they hit the final 50. He was just head & shoulders above the rest. :cheer:
July 8, 200618 yr Think the first one to make me sit up and take notice was 'Til you come back to me'. I had been watching PI and I was sure that I had seen him before then, but to be honest I didn't really remember him. When he sang that I was like 'wow'... also the tank top and utter 'gayness' about him didn't hurt  but the song was such a unique choice it was wonderful to hear. It wasn't so much the song that week that had me hooked to him - it was the results show where they were all sitting on the sofa, and Will looked ever so cute hugging his knees.. bless. There must be an angel - I was actually working the night he sang this and I tried to time my break so that I could see him - but it didn't work out. I did manage to pop to the staff room to see the results show and my heart sank when it looked as though he had bad comments. I was really worried for him and thought that maybe his time was up. When I got home I rushed to watch the tape and I was amazed to discover that he did this beautiful version - and they didn't like it? nutters. It made me cry - and it still makes me cry if I'm in that sort of mood when I watch it. Leave Right Now had a huge effect on me when I first heard it. All the stress we had when Will went off for a year, there was so much expectation and I was so worried about whether or not I was going to like it. I remember sitting with headphones on the pc and being utterly overwhelmed when I heard his voice. It remains one of the few times I have cried over Will singing. It was just a relief to know that all the waiting had been worth it because it produced such a beautiful song, and Will sounded so good :cheer: Time Enough was fantastic the first time he sang it on the last summer tour. I loved it when he did it at Killerton and I was so gutted that it didn't look as though it was going to make another appearance. When the music started I could have had a fit! I was so excited - and so happy.
July 12, 200618 yr ANS was my first Will experience, I hadn't watched PI but was at my daughters and she was raving about this kid called Will and I watched it with her, she was right, he was brilliant! I couldn't believe that voice was coming out of him to be honest and he had me hooked from that moment on. I too remember hearing the clip on the OS of LRN and I cried. It was just so good to hear him again and with such a beautiful song. There have been several along the way that have made me cry, Take Control was one - his voice on that track is sublime and I can only just listen to Home now without crying. Recent performances of WAI, JR and and Princes Trust again have been awesome. Other times he's made me smile so much with just the sheer joy of his performace - Blowing in the Wind is one of those times. I think for me that's why I still follow him after all this time, his voice and music produce real emotions in me - that's rare imo and I can't imagine it ever changing
July 13, 200618 yr Other times he's made me smile so much with just the sheer joy of his performace You know Lainey I've never really realised it before, but whenever I see or hear Will I immediately start tp smile. :D No wonder I get funny looks in the gym when I'm away in my Will world listening to him on my MP3player.
July 13, 200618 yr I remember him from the first audition, as he was the last person they saw. I thought he had a quirky charm back then. I remember him again from the last 20, when he had a go at Simon Cowell, to be honest, it was from then that I was hooked on him. He just got better and better, and he looked so cute and was so talented. When he did Walking In A Winter Wonderland, I was so impressed! I missed the final beacuse I was in Ireland, but a friend texted me that Will had won, but I was so sure the bland Gareth had won! Will was excellent at Killerton, when he sang Light My Fire, I nearly blubbed! I was also mightily impressed with Leave Right Now, it co-incided with me moving out of home and moving in with a friend, a good time in my life.
July 13, 200618 yr Author Will was excellent at Killerton, when he sang Light My Fire, I nearly blubbed! Everyone who went to Killerton seems to regard that gig as one of the best from Will, they all talk about it as very special, I wish I could have been there but I only found out it was taking place a few days before. :(

It was brilliant, his first proper gig all on his own. Happy memories :P
