Posted February 9, 201015 yr I recently bought Guinness Hit Singles - One Hit Wonders. Who remembers these on it then and which did you like or dislike? Great CD and it was only £4 brand new. Any others you like? One hit and nothing else, ever. Rose Garden - Lynn Anderson ( One of my all-time fave tracks ) No.3 in 1971. Other version by New World. Susan Fassbender - Twilight Cafe - Hadn't heard it for years before playing this CD last week. Black Betty - Ram Jam. - From 1977. Not bad. Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry. - 1976. Great. Float On - Floaters. No.1 in 1977. Love it. All By Myself - Eric Carmen. Later a hit for Celine Dion but Eric's is the best. How 'Bout Us - Champaign. Nice ballad. Little Does She Know - Kursaal Flyers. Okay track. I've Never Been To Me - Charlene. No.1 in 1982. Love it but what the hell does the title mean? There was a version without the spoken bit. Have I The Right - Dead End Kids. 1977. The Honeycombs original was better. Satellite - Hooters. Had forgotten about this but good track. Amityville - Lovebug Starski Lady Marmalade - Labelle. Great track. Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder My Toot Toot - Denise LaSallee Not on this CD but does anyone remember Classic by Adrian Gurvitz? Early 80's I think. February 9, 201015 yr Rose Garden - Lynn Anderson ( One of my all-time fave tracks ) No.3 in 1971. Other version by New World. OK but a bit dull Susan Fassbender - Twilight Cafe - Hadn't heard it for years before playing this CD last week. Decent enough Black Betty - Ram Jam. - From 1977. Not bad. Horribly repetitive Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry. - 1976. Great. Terrible Float On - Floaters. No.1 in 1977. Love it. Dull beyond belief All By Myself - Eric Carmen. Later a hit for Celine Dion but Eric's is the best. Great song later murdered by Celine Dion How 'Bout Us - Champaign. Nice ballad. Dire Little Does She Know - Kursaal Flyers. Okay track. Fairly good I've Never Been To Me - Charlene. No.1 in 1982. Love it but what the hell does the title mean? There was a version without the spoken bit. The Ned's Atomic Dustbin version was far better Have I The Right - Dead End Kids. 1977. The Honeycombs original was better. Agree Satellite - Hooters. Had forgotten about this but good track. Don't remember it Amityville - Lovebug Starski Don't remember it Lady Marmalade - Labelle. Great track. One of the worst pop songs ever written. Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder Poor My Toot Toot - Denise LaSallee Dreadful
February 9, 201015 yr Rose Garden - Lynn Anderson - OK song. Does anyone remember Jade Goody's Celebrity Stars In Your Eyes winning performance? Susan Fassbender - Twilight Cafe - An airy fairy song. Very much of its time. Black Betty - Ram Jam. - A good Hard Rock song six/seven years too late. Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry. - Forever destroyed by Vanilla Ice. I rather listen to the real deal of Sly & The Family Stone or Parliament. Float On - Floaters. - The Floaters by name and an awful turd of a record by a third rate Philly soul act. Quite simply dreadful and in the year of punk too. All By Myself - Eric Carmen. - I much preferred his work with The Raspberries. Compare this AOR song to the majestic Overnight Sensation (Hit Record) and weep at the waste of potential. The first of his 12 solo USA hit singles. And everyone must remember Hungry Eyes from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack surely? How 'Bout Us - Champaign. - Bland unremarkable soul ballad danced to by Jason & Sharon at school discos in 1980. Little Does She Know - Kursaal Flyers. - Great chorus; dreadful verse; dated production. I've Never Been To Me - Charlene. - Quite simply one of the worst records that Motown were ever responsible for. An unforgivably crass and sexist Republican lyric (it was written by a man from the Deep South of the USA) about a female regretting her feminist life in her late 30s about having an abortion and her freedom; and wishing that she had settled down with a man. It makes the Spice Girls Wannabe seem more subversive than God Save The Queen. Have I The Right - Dead End Kids. - A pointless cover of a great song. Satellite - Hooters. - A great song that I will associate with Simon Mayopromoting this record to get it into the chart. Amityville - Lovebug Starski - A truly wretched novelty rap track. Lady Marmalade - Labelle. A fantastic track; but the lyrics are not so great after translation. Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder - One of the greatest one hit wonders ever. A silly fluffy lightweight pop song that is as enjoyable as candy. Previously worked with Stevie Wonder & Bette Midler. Went on to produce No Doubt (he produced their 1997 Tragic Kingdom breakthrough album); Natalie Imbruglia; Chrstina Aguilera & Kelly Clarkson. And nowadays works on a very popular award winning US TV comedy/drama/musical show that is loved by a lot of us on Buzzjack. My Toot Toot - Denise LaSallee - I thought this was horrible in 1986; and its sexist lyrics sound even worse today.
February 9, 201015 yr The best two songs on that list is Wild Cherry & Ram Jam. everything else is either okay or bad
February 9, 201015 yr All By Myself - Eric Carmen. Much as I like All By Myself I agree that Overnight Sensation (Hit Record) was far better. Shame it wasn't a proper hit record despite the late, great Roger Scott's best efforts on Capital Radio :(

February 10, 201015 yr Satellite - Hooters. - A great song that I will associate with Simon Mayopromoting this record to get it into the chart. Ah, I knew there was some reason it charted. I really liked this at the time but I can't even remember how it goes now. Amityville - Lovebug Starski - A truly wretched novelty rap track. Oh come on...it's a brilliant track...flawed but brilliant.

"Gotta write a classic, gotta write it in an attic" it went! 1981 about. I remember it. I've got it on some 8CD Greatest Hits of the 80s compiliation. Reminds me of a rubbish sappy version of BA Robertson IMHO = Not good.
February 10, 201015 yr I remember it and I still hate it Looks like most of us though this song was rubbish. You can add my name to the list
February 11, 201015 yr Could it possibly be one of the most ironic song titles of all time? indeed!
February 11, 201015 yr Anyone interested in a list of TRUE UK one hit wonders can see them all to the end of 2009 HERE There are actually 53 of them Edited February 11, 201015 yr by euro music
February 11, 201015 yr Anyone interested in a list of TRUE UK one hit wonders can see them all HERE There are actually 52 of them I don't agree with the list. Why is Aguilera/Pink/Lil Kim/Maya a one hit wonder but Sugababes Vs Girls Aloud not? Both are simply individual acts combined. That's not even mentioning Vanessa Jenkins and Bryn West featuring Sir Tom Jones and Robin Gibb. And surely The X Factor Finalists 2009 or 2008 are unique? Also Joe McElderry is techically a one hit wonder still Plus if Lee Marvin was why wasn't Clint Eastwood as it was a Double A? The list is inconsistent and therefore inconclusive
February 11, 201015 yr Anyone interested in a list of TRUE UK one hit wonders can see them all HERE There are actually 52 of them erm...that concentrates on acts that got to number 1 ... so if an act only has 1 hit but fails to top the chart it isnt a one hit wonder?.... i think not. the clues in the title!
February 11, 201015 yr Author erm...that concentrates on acts that got to number 1 ... so if an act only has 1 hit but fails to top the chart it isnt a one hit wonder?.... i think not. the clues in the title! Well even Guinness used to describe a "true" one-hit wonder as "having a No.1 hit and then nothing else..ever" but they seemed to have re-defined it as my CD is compiled by them and doesn't stick just to No.1 hits. February 11, 201015 yr Author Camouflage by Stan Ridgeway, 1986 I think, without checking. Who remembers that then?
