Studio Ghibli are indeed amazing. Spirited Away and Only Yesterday are probably my favourites. I did a Film Studies module on Japanese animation, and Miyazaki was one of the main people covered.

Anyway, went to see this today, and it was amazing. I think I was the oldest person there who wasn't a parent bringing their child.

I don't know how to take it, I saw it on Film 2010 the other night, and I was just left in a state of hmmmm. I'm trying to get into Animé, as it;s about the only genre I haven't dipped my toe in. Probably will start with something like Spirited Away first.

Ponyo is lovely. <3

Keep in mind its target audience is like...8 year olds. Same with some of his other films like My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. If you want more mature Miyazaki, wach Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away. Beautiful films.

For the next few days they're showing Studio Ghibli films on Film4 at 11am, so if you're into discovering more about them that would be a great start.

Agree that Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are more 'mature' offerings, although it is worth pointing out that in Japan there isn't the same stigma attached to animation as there is in the west. Most of Miyazaki's films are targeted towards a universal audience, so in Japan you'll see people from 8 to 80 going to see these films. The only exception is Porco Rosso, which was purposely written for an older audience. Incidentally it is also the funniest Ghibli film, so well worth looking into.

I'm so inevitably going to be coming home with Animé stuff from work tomorrow  :D Just noticed a nice lttile Ponyo poster in my 'Orphan' DVD too!
I'm pencilling down Wednesday to watch my first couple. Think I'll start myself off with Spirited Away and Porco Rosso :D

Princess Mononoke <3

Really wanna watch Ponyo, none of my friends will come and watch it with me though :/

Dub or sub? If the former you chose perhaps the best two dubs of the catalogue. Spirited Away is the best Miyazaki film whilst Porco Rosso is by far the funniest. Let me know what you think of them.

Thankfully I've got a little brother, so I was able to use him as an excuse

Hi , I am a new member of forum. Would a newcomer be warmly welcome here? Good day you guys!!!

I love Ghibli too  But it always has to be sub for me. I saw Spirited Away on DVD first with subtitles and it was brill. Then I saw Howl's Moving Castle at the cinema with the dub and it was :puke2: At least I have the DVD now

I'll see this when it's out on DVD for this reason, or maybe download it...
