I'm sorry but I can't agree with all this 'the public should not be allowed to vote' sh/te!

Would you all rather be directed to what 'is the best' by a panel of experts. - yes

For Christ's Sake ... its like saying you'll only go and watch films that Mark Kermode thinks are 'great' ... without realising that a lot of what he says is great ... the general public thinks is sh/te!

doesn't make the films any better just because the general public like them.

Frigging hell ... do you all want to be told what to think? the Brits panel do not tell us what to think - they delcare who THEY think should win.

I bet half of you ... if shown re-runs of The Old Grey Whistle Test would say ... 'what the f*** is that $h!te about?'

So you don't have a mind of your own. Fair enough ... there are lots out there like you.

LMFAO    what a mess of a performance, and her credibility just went down the toilet.

So you're one of those who'd like your mind made up for you are you?

Norma

No. How do you make this out? The Brits awards have nothing to do what we think are the best. It's a panel vote. They are not attempting to tell anyone what they should like.

There is no logic to your argument.

The panel decide on what THEY think is the best album. It should be the same with best single

As for not having a mind of my own - I'm well known for my opinions.

The very fact that you think a 'panel of experts' say who 'should' win is more valid than the general public's choice! Do the maths! Do you have to be told what to think just because someone may be more 'musically' educated than yourself. Like what you like ... no-one should tell you what is the best!

I'll bring in a film comparative here ... Forrest Gump won Best Oscar by vote of a 'panel of experts' when the world and his wife knew that The Shawshank Redemption was by leagues a better film ... and has stood the test of time. The Brits is just mere twaddle compared to this. Get over it!

Jees!

ok. Should all the awards be voted for by the public?

No! A happy medium should be met! I'd say half and half. I'm sorry I didn't mean to rant at you ... but to say all awards should be decided by, in effect, a 'private members club' is ridiculous. I hate being told what to think and I automatically think that everyone should feel the same.

Not at all. No apology needed.

We are not been told what to think though. This is my point. Awards shows, critics end of year polls, music criticism, it's all just opinion and we are never told what to think. Just what they think is best. I happen to think that a panel of old guys would be a better judge of best single than a million JLS or Cheryl Cole fans.

This is what I call a performance, probably has to be the best performance of the night  Alicia

THIS

It should be like the Eurovision... half public vote, half panel of experts :)

Either way... WELL DONE GAGA!!

JLS winning Best Single shows why the public SHOULD NOT be allowed to vote.

They are a disgrace to the UK music industry and make me ashamed to be British.

Erm.. Why exactly?

Can someone explain the JLS hate around here PLEASE? Especially as the majority of people who hate them they 'they're an embarassment' and blame 'their fans' are hypocrites especially people who think Cheryl deserved to win best single.

Quite a large junk of people who say all this are either Girls Aloud loons or Leoonas who are a lot WORSE than JLS fans and maybe should spend more time voting in things like these rather than going onto internet forums and going 'omg shes amazing' and constantly storking the iTunes chart and Radio playlists!

I actually don't mind JLS winning at all for I actually find them to be quite likeable and plus at least not the kids finally have some music they can like rather than the housewives who pick the winners of the X Factor.

I'd like a proper awards ceremony that awarded lesser known artists like Bat for Lashes, Seasick Steve, Animal Collective....then again who would watch it?

The great majority of awards at the great majority of awards shows are voted for by a panel rather than the public, and that's the way it should be. A public vote will never represent true popularity anyway because fanbases will just abuse it, and if we want a measure of what's popular then we can look at the end-of-year charts. Awards like the BRITs are about good music. Within the assembled panel there's a great cross-section of journalists and members of the music industry who we can usually trust to come to right decision regarding winners.

Best perf of the night was Empire followed by The Fear and Telephone. Cheryl was utter crap. I have to say that dancing does nothing for me. I'd prefer a vocal performance with no choreography whatsoever every time. Of course if you can juggle both then even better...

Exactly.

Enjoyed the brits so much. Lily, Jay/Alicia, GaGa, Robbie were all fantastic IMO and even Dizzee & Florence was decent. Ugh at JLS winning best single, lead singer from Kasabian falling over was the funniest thing i've seen & well done to GaGa on all 3 :D

Very true!

I was annoyed JLS won best song, but VERY happy Cheryl didnt win it either- her performance tonight showed her weak singing and miming ability- it was literally car crash TV- and she did not deserve an awards after that

Cheryl's Performance was amazing who cares if she mimed its not as if she mimed the real singing in the actual song itself. -_-

Bollocks! And as my evidence I cite Forrest Gump being awarded Best Picture Oscar over The Shawshank Redemption. Case Closed. Norma's verdict wins.

I've just realised ... I'm amongst a pile of people who'd rather be directed to the way they should think! Big Brother, 1984, come on down ... everyone wants you now!
