Posted February 24, 201015 yr Your countries are confirmed to be broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest 2010! SBS for Australia, and Triangle Stratos TV for New Zealand. For Australia: Semi 1: Friday 28th May 19:30 Semi 2: Saturday 29th May 19:30 Final: Sunday 30th May 19:30 All times are in local time. Times for New Zealand are currently unknown. Personal note: It must get good viewers for SBS, as they normally broadcast it. I mean, if it got no viewers, they wouldn't broadcast it again. Australia even send their own commentator now. Strange how non-participating broadcasters put in more effort than some that do take part.
February 24, 201015 yr AFAIK last year they didn't send their commentators? :o It shows that ESC is still amazing and isn't going to drop the ratings in the nearest future.
February 24, 201015 yr it would be fantastic if Australia got a wildcard entry into the competition one year as reward for their loyalty to the contest  Delta for 2011 :w00t:
February 24, 201015 yr Eurovision's HUGE in Australia, although mainly because of the large amount of Eastern European immigrants over there...
February 24, 201015 yr Author AFAIK last year they didn't send their commentators? :o Umm....what does that mean? I can't make sense of it :( And after a quick internet search, it seems Eurovision is one of the biggest shows of the year for SBS.
February 24, 201015 yr Author Oh, I get it now. Well I know they were going to, so your saying that in the end, they didn't send their own commentators? So would've they have used the BBC commentary, as they had done in the past?
February 24, 201015 yr I dislike the whole commentators thing tbh. :( Yes, they tell interesting things about each of the entries/artists but a. i know everything about them already ( :kink: ) and b. they keep speaking when the song gets on. Irritating as hell. Especially one particular person last year <_<
February 24, 201015 yr I like the commentary but it's a bit safe, I'd love somebody like a Mock The Week panelist to commentate one year, but it would be too risky for BBC One at that time of night  Graham Norton was about as good as you could be at that time of night though - I was quite impressed.

Irritating as hell. Especially one particular person last year <_< Ah, I get annoyed at that sometimes when watching YouTube videos of ESC. But the UK commentators don't normally talk over the songs, or the spokespersons. And we do get some interesting facts, but a lot of it is comedy. I thought Graham Norton was brilliant last year  He even knew where the Spanish top points were going before they were announced :o
February 24, 201015 yr Author Only juries votes though. :o It was due to some technical problems or so. For Spain? I think that was the 2nd semi-final, which they had to show on a time delay due to a tennis match over-running. The only other problems with the voting I remember were with Norway in the final, and phone votes in Hungary not being counted so they could only use SMS votes. May have also been some others, but I don't remember the Spanish votes in the final being jury only  EDIT: Yes, just looked it up. There were 4 problems. In semi-2, a country (we aren't told which) failed to reach the minimum number of votes for them to be considered valid. No tele-vote in Spain. Final, votes in Norway couldn't be counted and phone calls in Hungary couldn't be counted. Edited February 24, 201015 yr by bigzarafan
February 24, 201015 yr We knew Spanish votes in here as well prior to the contest. :o They were afraid they might lose the connection at the wrong time  Was it in Semi 2 then? :o My memory gets baaaad :(
February 24, 201015 yr Author We knew Spanish votes in here as well prior to the contest. :o They were afraid they might lose the connection at the wrong time  Was it in Semi 2 then? :o My memory gets baaaad :( In 2008, I knew the winner prior to any points being announced. I went on to the Eurovision wikipedia page after lines had closed, while the interval act was on, and it said Russia had won. I thought "Oh no, have I just spoiled it for myself? Maybe it's not correct, though" but it was.
February 25, 201015 yr AFAIK last year they didn't send their commentators? :o It shows that ESC is still amazing and isn't going to drop the ratings in the nearest future. IIRC i think they did. It certainly wasn't Norton i was listenin to on SBS last year.
February 25, 201015 yr Eurovision's HUGE in Australia, although mainly because of the large amount of Eastern European immigrants over there... Indeed it is. Some Aussies don't 'get' it especially as they don't participate :heehee: but i watched ESC last year on SBS with my flatmate Elly
