24 20 DANCING IN THE DARK - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Bruce`s re-issue from 1984, and 1985 turned out to be his year in the UK, after a string of flops

25 42 COVER ME - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN beside himself with joy, then!

26 15 METHOD OF MODERN LOVE - DARYL HALL/JOHN OATES the Philadelphia duo, who deserved so much more in the UK, and never really got it. It was hard being a male Yankee, in Britain wasn`t it?

30 24 FALLEN ANGELS RIDING - DAVID ESSEX David Cooke the Actor/Singer/Superstar from Godspell to Evita, who released his first single in 1963. What was it called, you say? "And The Tears Came Tumblin`Down" is the answer. He was just 16, and this year he`s 63...and very tongue in cheek, as ever!

Only the top 30 aired on the Network Chart in 1985, as David smoothey Jensen glanced into his Crystal Ball to predict 3 entries in the following week`s show. Those were "Now That We Found Love" from Third World, "Spend The Night" from the Cool Notes, & "Love Is A Battlefield" with Pat Benatar. All of them cracked the top 30, the next week. Wasn`t the programme so much better, than Radio One`s dire Richard Skinner, and the week behind chart?! Actually from memory...I believe this week in 1985, Timmy Mallet did the Network Top 30, and not the Kid...I was not listening to either show, mainly because there was a Wednesday Countdown on Radio Mercury with Pat Sharp, and quite superior. Strange how Pat, became the Kid`s stand in from 1989-1993! And Pat (of course) had previously worked for Radio One, between 82/83, and also presented Top Of The Pops. This Mercury Top 40, actually featured a midweek chart...possibly the first broadcasted, and lasted well into the 90s. An idea poached by Capital Radio in 1991, when all of a sudden Neil Fox presented a Wednesday show between 7.30 & 10pm. Clive Warren was his stand-in. And (of course) he became Mark Goodier`s stand in, around 1995...before the not so good Scott Mills. Clive Warren returned to local radio in the late 1990s, turning up around the Berkshire areas, and last heard on Reading 107fm.

Another week for the GaGa, as the Tinie throws his Tempah at number 2! What will happen next week? Well, Now 75 hits the shops on Monday, so we will have another slow chart, as everything goes back up yet again!

Don`t forget to join us in the chart, where we do it better every Sunday at 4pm on the Superstation http://www.thesuperstation.info well ahead of everyone else with those new entries first, and the complete top 40 countdown, followed by a whole hour of those bubblers & new releases....where we don`t ask stupid questions in order to allow us entry to your house to do the chart! My God, has it really come to that Reggie?!!! If you want to listen again to last week`s Fresh Hit 40, from the Superatation, let me know and i`ll send it to you via email, if you have Realplayer. Also, if you have an equal interest in the U.S. chart via Cashbox (which I prefer, to Billboard, as it`s faster moving), check out http://www.cashboxmagazine.com and follow the links, click on Radio, and hear a full non-stop countdown of the U.S. singles chart, and others too. Especially listening to the Robin Thicke song in their singles top 40...

Pleased Laura is still at #4 in the albums. Really hope she stays there until Sunday - would be an excellent achievent!

Such a brilliant album.

Thanks Dave

I listened to the Fresh Hot 40 from your link, and it was very good! Obviously the production values aren't as high as for Radio 1, but I like how the chart is the star and the DJ is warm but not too chatty. Will try and listen again next week.

Oh good! Yep, I like the way we`ve managed to have David Guetta & Kid Cudi in for 2 weeks, and he`s only just managed the Official Top 40 this week! That 7.5% Airplay on new entries, works well.

Cheers Dave!

I wonder if the #1 single can pass 50k this week, sales were quite low last week.

Incidentally, Tears For Fears never played Live Aid in 1985. Geldof added them to the list of acts to play Philidelphia despite them making it clear they didn't want to appear. On the morning of Live Aid they announced they couldn't play as two of the band had quit. After a public spat with Geldof they all made up when Tears For Fears recorded the Race Against Time song the following year.

Do you know Robbie? I`d cean forgotten that! I was looking at the actual publicity sheet for Live Aid. Apparently they should`ve followed Phil Collins`s UK appearance.
