Cheer leader: Robbie is singing on England 2010 song.

Robbie Williams has been recording an updated version of the England football anthem 3 Lions. He has been working with Lightning Seeds star Ian Broudie who wrote the song.

The song first released for Euro 96 has been wheeled out every time England gets into an international competition.

Depressed enough by World Cup news on TV, the internet and in papers, Tartan Army members may find 3 Lions on the radio the last straw.

A source at the recording studio told The Sun: “Ian's been working on the song for a couple of months and was at Sarm Studios when Robbie happened to be there doing work with Trevor Horn.

“Robbie bumped into Ian and they decided to team up. They were really pleased with the results."

A spokesperson for the singer added: "Robbie has contributed to the 3 Lions track and, together with his involvement in the Soccer Aid celebrity soccer match in June, is happy to be involved."

ALL - STAR LION-UP

DAVID BADDIEL wants an all-star cast to join him, FRANK SKINNER and ROBBIE WILLIAMS singing on the new version of England footie song 3 Lions.

The track is being re-recorded for this summer's World Cup under producer TREVOR HORN. :cheer:

David said: "Trevor has done this brilliant orchestral version of 3 Lions. It has opera singers, a choir and a full orchestra. :cheer: :cheer:

"I'm not sure who will be singing the main part. I had the idea of doing it with a rag tag bag of English eccentrics - LILYALLEN, AMY WINEHOUSE, MICHAEL CAINE, GAZZA, people like that."

David - who makes his debut as a movie producer with The Infidel, out April 9 - added: "I don't feel it's up to us any more as it's a song and anyone can cover it. I just hope it's not the SUGABABES!"

The song will never top DEL AMITRI's Scotland anthem Don't Come Home Too Soon

Russell To Sing With Robbie Williams On Football Song?Reports suggest Katy Perry's other half will add vocals to Three Lions...

MTV.co.uk

14:59, Wednesday, 7 April 2010

Katy Perry's soon-to-be hubby Russell Brand will reportedly feature in a re-make of the England football anthem Three Lions.

The football-loving comedian has allegedly been asked by the song's creator Ian Broudie to record his vocals on the updated version which will be released to coincide with this summers football World Cup.

Broudie, who recorded the original Three Lions anthem with funny-men David Baddiel and Frank Skinner back in 1996 and is also thought to have asked Robbie Williams to record his vocals for the track, as well as West Ham fan Russell.

A source told The Sun: "Russell is a massive football fan and has always liked the track so he thought, "why not?"

Russell's love of football, particularly London club The Hammers was made public last year when Perry presented the 2009 MTV EMAs wearing underwear in the clubs claret and blue colours.

Brand, whose fiancee Perry recently nicknamed Bridezilla due to his love of bride magazines also posed for the I Kissed A Girl singer in a white wedding dress - which she kindly posted on Twitter.

I hate the World Cup already :arrr:

I shall of course be supporting the team with the sexiest players. ^_^

  • 1 month later...

And here it is - with Rob and Russel Brand on vocals and Trevor Horn producing (plus the opera singer from Starstruck at the start and end (her name escapes me). It's up on the official site and will be on radio tomorrow. It's sounds pretty much the same as the original tbh - they could';ve done more tbh - I am sure it will go to #1 though.

Can't we have something new? Same tournaments, same song.

I read in the paper it got to #29 - tbh I am wondering why it was even released yet - it was only played on the radio on Monday and the world cup hasnt even begun  I suspect it will get alot higher nearer the time. Are they even planning a video?

This is one Robbie song I have no interest in downloading

Dare I say it, but I'm sick of hearing about the world cup, and it hasn't even started yet!

I'll not be downloading the song either ^_^
