I find it ruddy hilarious that The One Show had more viewers than Over The Rainbow! By the way if you are in too vintage sitcoms, there are currently two of the worse ever made showing on Film24 (Sky 157) on Sundays at 7pm. They are "Take A Letter Mr Jones" with John Inman/Rula Lenska/Miriam Margoyles followed by "That Beryl Marston" with Julia McKenzie/Gareth Hunt/Jonathon Morris...They are both Southern Television at it`s worse, and no wonder they lost their franchise after this dross! Mind you, they also run Kids TV, like "Freewheelers" & "The Flockton Flyer" during the week, so not so bad. There are also some rarely seen B & W films too. Possibly we await a re-run of Jon Pertwee`s "Worzel Gummidge" too. More good news is, forthcoming plans to show more archive stuff like "Sapphire & Steel" a la David Macallum/Joanna Lumley, "The Gemini Man" (Ben Murphy), Cannon...a less often screened detective show made by Quinn Martin. Which could mean we might get "The Fugitive" (the original series) which deserves a complete re-run. On the detective thing, they already show the original B & W series of "Burke`s Law" on Fridays at 10.30am. Overall probably one of the better Satellite Channels.

01 03 SIT DOWN - JAMES...touring at the moment, and it just failed to make the Gallup #1, but did it for the Network Chart

02 01 ONE AND ONLY - CHESNEY HAWKES...Chip`s son (of the Tremoloes). Always stated as a one hit wonder, but we know it wasn`t!

04 04 RHYTHM OF MY HEART - ROD STEWART...Rod doing good in 1991. I do question the stuff, he`s putting out today. Can we have something a little more original?

14 NE RESCUE ME - MADONNA...another MRIB number one for Madge

15 47 ANTHEM - N-JOI...the House/Techno duo from Southend

32 39 COWBOYS AND ANGELS - GEORGE MICHAEL...12 UK nunber one singles, 10 U.S. ones. The Gulf War in 1991, led to a radio airplay Hot 100 hit "Mother`s Pride". Maybe Cowboys & Angels would have been a choice on it`s own.

34 NE HYPERREAL - SHAMEN...Mr C (Andrew West) had now appeared alongside Colin Angus, Derek & Keith McKenzie and Peter Stephenson

37 45 SENZA UNA DONNA - ZUCCHERO/PAUL YOUNG...it mean`t "Without A Woman". First recorded by the Italian without Paul, on the album version

38 NE HEAVEN - CHRIS REA...Aged 59, and currently touring. Was he so bad, or did he warrant the joke "What do you get if you cross Dire Straits with Chris Rea?" I thought it might have been a good idea to form a band called Dire-Rea! Could`ve used a title of "The Road To Money", combining "Road To Hell" with "Money For Nothing", as a send up.

39 33 BEEN CAUGHT STEALING - JANE`S ADDICTION...Perry Farrell and co from Los Angeles, and back 3rd time in 2010, working on new material

40 28 LOVE REARS ITS UGLY HEAD - LIVING COLOUR...The Funk-Metal Pioneers from New York, and a-forementioned performing with the Stones

43 22 BECAUSE I LOVE YOU - STEVIE B....Steven Bernard Hill was the full name of this Miami Singer/Producer/Songwriter. The song subtitled "The Postman`s Song". I thought that was "Get Down Shep", by the Barron Knights!

44 25 UNFINISHED SYMPATHY - MASSIVE....Up to Bristol for the gang "Massive Attack", and wasn`t it great

45 NE I`M ALRIGHT - KATHERINE E...Appearing on many 90s tracks, she was produced by Fabrizio Rizzolo & Franco Diaferia

:o at Inna topping the physicals.

Glad to see "New Moon" hanging in at #2 on the DVDs - Rob Pattinson needs some good news about "Remember Me" only got to #7 at the box office. And an all-new top 3 at the box office - quick question, how often does the box office have an all-new top 3, and when was the last time it happened, with which movies?

The Top Singles in Apr 1991:

01 03 SIT DOWN - JAMES...touring at the moment, and it just failed to make the Gallup #1, but did it for the Network Chart

:o Such a shame this Manchester anthem failed to top the UK charts. Was by far my fave song in the charts at the time although a lot of that was down to my brother in law buying the track and playing it endlessly when I went to my sisters.

20 NE DEEP DEEP TROUBLE - SIMPSONS...not such a big follow up to "Do The Bartman". The series only on Sky TV in 1991

It was crap compared to 'Do The Bartman' (first song I bought on cassette single :D <--- no shame!!!). I remember being the envy of my mates as our house was the only one on the estate that had Sky TV. I was obsessed with Sky One at the age of 10. DJ Kat Show, Fun Factory and of course The Simpsons. The good ole' days. ^_^

It doesn`t happen that often. The last time was when there were 4 new films in the top 4 on 17th Jan 2009. Averaging twice a year.

The Top 4 on 17th Jan 2009 was:

01 Role Models

02 Slumdog Millionaire

04 Defiance

It also happened with 3 new in the top 3 on 2nd Jan 2009:

01 Yes Man

02 Bedtime Stories

03 Australia

And 28th March 2008: a new top 4

04 Meet The Spartans

Also 14th March 2008: a new top 3

Are my eyes deceiving me or ar you predicting Delirious? - History Maker will drop out of the Top 75?

No I`m not saying that, but it will come pretty close. Showing tonight at 71. And big falls throughout the week. Number 59 yesterday officially, someone said elsewhere! Was it number 40 on Wednesday? Will it be the biggest faller in "History"????

Are my eyes deceiving me or ar you predicting Delirious? - History Maker will drop out of the Top 75?

I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped out of the top 100 - as far as I can tell it's totally dropped out of the iTunes top 300!

Cheers Dave!

This week in 1991 was a sad week - the first week without my weekly fix of 'Record Mirror' as the magazine had folded the previous week. A sad time. I thought their "Stop Press" announcement buried at the back of the magazine the previous week that they were closing was an April Fool's joke and I waited for the next issue to arrive in my local newsagents...

Oh no at GaGa slipping to #3 in the singles charts :(

Here's me hoping that it goes exactly the same way as last week  Mind you HMV selling her album for £3.99 for the last 3 weeks has certainly paid off for her.

Thanks for that, very surprised to see Jonsi so high in the album charts Go Do barely scraped the eighties on itunes singles chart. Will All Night Long manage to go Top 40 on Sunday it is at 33 on itunes.

I know they count towards the same album, but is it the original they have been selling for £3.99, because it is in my HMV. Since you can't buy her 8 new tracks on a separate CD in the UK, I dunno why they need to sell the original. Anyone who has TF, won't want it again, those who haven't got it won't really want to buy TF when they can get TFM with eight extra tracks.

Thanks Dave

Good to see Diana doing very well on pre-orders, surprised Chipmunk isnt in the top 5- I thought he would beat her, but it looks like she could get number 1 that week, next weeks chart should be more exciting with Professor Green and Kate Nash

I know its the original at £3.99, but if you look on the HMV top 10 of the day on their site you will see that it is the original version of the album that is selling the most copies, and it has been for the last 3 weeks!

I remember the week well. It was a pretty good week weatherwise in Southern England. I believe Sounds also disappeared in April 1991. I used to enjoy their spoof on Piers Morgan, with a column called "Prize Moron"!! So many Music Papers gone now. It was in 1990, that Number One magazine was swallowed up by the BBC, which meant no one any longer printed the Network Top 75. Only a Top 50 via NME & Melody Maker.

Sounds and Record Mirror were both published by the same company and both closed the same week. The company (Morgan Grampian) also published Music Week until it was sold a few years later. Record Mirror almost made a return in 1995 but the publishers decided to start an internet alternative called Dotmusic rather than bring back the magazine. It is from Dotmusic's forums (which closed in 2004) that Buzzjack and other forums descend...
